hmn. So.
1. this 2012 "prediction" isnt really a prediction. its just an ending of the 13th cycle of the Mayan count (i think its the katun, but i'm probably wrong. its been a bit since I studied the Maya) its more like the end of a millenium.
2. any cataclysmic event predicted in the mayan codices would probably refer to events in their own sphere rather than any global event. e.g. programs that play up the 2012 hype usually note that the mayans refered to a time of war around the 1960's. the programs say that this refers to vietnam/korea/aftermath of ww2- in a usa/euro-centric way. BUT if you are going to follow the prediction hype, it probably has to do with la violencia in guatemala that was focused towards the ethnically mayan portion of the population. SO, it'd probably be good to infer that if there is any kind of world changing event, it would be centered around mayans.
