How to report a Bug

First thing to do when a member contact you regarding a possible bug:

1. Check an announcement!
If user experience a problem during some new project push it is probably
temporary and will be resolved after push is completed.

2. Can you reproduce the problem?

To make sure the problem is real:
Clean up the cash and cookie
Log out and log in back
Is it still reproducible?
If it is reproducible, please provide the following information:

OS: Mac? Win? WinXP?
Browser: IE6? IE7? FF? Safari? Opera?
Version: FF 2.0.5? FF 3? IE7 sp 2?
Brief description of the problem

REPORTING A BUG

Provide detailed and useful information when reporting!
The purpose of reporting a bug is so that later on a Developer will have enough information to reproduce the problem and resolve it. Reports made that do not provide useful information and are vague with no detail will be deleted.

Be descriptive in your title
Don't just put "Bug" in your title. For example, if something like Cinemas isn't poping up, put "Gaia Cinemas isn't popping up Bug."

Here's an example of how to write a bug:


Computer Specs:

Bug:
Playing winnings button does not work when you have over 10 winnings awarded

Reproduction:
1) Go to www.gaiaonline.com/
2) Log in as a user: user name and password
3) Go to the web page www.gaiaonline.com/games
4) Click on Slots
5) Pick any available room
6) Click on the Join button
7) Click on the Play Token button
cool Click on the Spin button
9) Repeat steps 7-8 until you have at least 10 winnings awarded

*Current winnings will display the number 10, right below Tickets and Tokens on the left center side

10) Click on the Play Winnings button

Result:
The button will not work. The current winnings do not decrement (decrease). The spin button does not work since no winnings or tokens are used.

Notes:
Any useful information goes here, such as how often this occurred.

If you notice for the above bug, it is very detailed and concise. If you were to go through the reproduction steps, you should be able to reproduce the bug, or if it is uncommon, occasionally reproduce the bug. smile

Notice how everything is vague? If you were to try to go through the steps again, you would not have a clue where to start. Try to be as detailed as you can by giving any information such as: computer information and what you were doing before, if you used any power ups, etc. This way we can narrow down the possibilities.

Bug:
Attempting to save avatar after making an outfit,Database Error occurs.Items replicate from supposed outfit,some items vanish from inventory.

Reproduction:
1:Log onto gaiaonline.com
2:Log in with the username and password
3:Go to the site gaiaonline/com/avatar
4:Click on Avatar
5:Formulate an outfit to your liking
6:Click save
7:Wait for it to save

Result:
Normally,the screen should say 'Show off your avatar' and 'Looking good' with the new look you pieced together.However,it just says 'Database Error:Unable to move items during the avatar save.Please try again.serial_not_in_owner_location'.Go to the inventory screen and whilst you placed an outfit together,the equipped list is different and items from what you supposedly have on are replicated while some items are missing.

Notes:
This has happened 3 times or so this past year,one last month from recollection.The bug has now happened twice in one month as of this typing.

Bug: Friends can't find me using the friend finder. They can't open trades and gifts they try to send to me never arrive. I also can't log in using my gaia name. I have to use the email tied to my account. My friends have lost many items trying to send gifts to me that (I think) went to someone else.

Reproduction:
1. Friend selects me to trade/gift from Friends list
2. Friend sends trade/gift

Result:
Someone not on their friends list shows up in the trade, or I never receive the gift.

Note: This has happened many times, possibly going back as far as two years. I'm not sure, but I've never received a gift successfully on Gaia and all successful trades have to be initiated by me.

you can click on jaws to get reward but the round pop up that shows reward does not pop up you get no reward this started on sunday the 13th did the same on the 14th and 15th loged on and off tried refresh no help

Unresponsive script issues


Original System Specs
My operating system is: Ubuntu 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope Fully Updated
My web browser is: Firefox 3.6.11
My Flash version is: 10.2.152.27

I updated my system, and I am still having the same issues.

New System Specs
My Operating System:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx
My browser: Firefox 3.6.15
My flash version: 10.2.152.27


Location
Anywhere there are aquariums.


Bug
Any time I enter a thread with Aquariums in sigs, or try to play Booty Grab, It lags badly. Then a box pops up saying "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.". Sometimes it crashes my flash player, and sometimes it doesn't.

Reproduction
1) Log in
2) Got to Aquarium forum (or any forum)
3) Go to thread with aquariums in signatures.
4) Wait for firefox to become usable.
5) Unresponsive script box pops up.

Result
Pushing "Stop Script\" helps most of the time, but occasionally crashes flash. If it does manage to work, sometimes I've missed the booty grab game I was trying to play, because it took so long to be able to use Gaia. Pushing "Continue" just makes Gaia unusable.

Note: This happens even if I am not trying to play Booty Grab. I've also had it happen twice while I had the "Flashblock" & "Stop Autoplay" add-ons enabled in Firefox, which is the only way I can really use Gaia most of the time. (This problem also happened while simply loading the page after I made this post.) Also, I don't know if this will help, but my computer is an Acer Aspire One. Here are the specs for it.

Hi, I entered a bug#FS#40599 for our devs to try to fix it.

Ok so I'm doing this again because there is new info to add with it. It is not an issue on my carriers end. If it was on my carriers end then all the alerts would not be going through and not just the one. All alerts that have a checkbox on the alerts page work. The only one that isn't working is PM's and its the only one that doesn't have a check box on the page.

Please help get this fixed. I really love this feature and I miss the PM alerts.

Not getting a text alert for new PMs

Short description of the problem: I no longer get a text message alert when I receive a new PM. I do still get alerts for profile comments (or any of the things that have check boxes). I know my phone number is not blacklisted since I still get some alerts. It also doesn't work if some one checks the box to also send as a text message, but does work if they make it using the text message option. As in they click new and then select text message instead of private message.

Here is a thread on the issue: Gaia text alert doesn't send text for PM

Mobile Provider: Verizon Wireless

Step 1- Log onto www.gaiaonline.com
Step 2- Go to the alerts page
Step 3- Sign up for alerts on your phone
Step 4- Check box for any alerts you want, PM is not on there but automatically set up.
Step 5- Sign off Gaia and go to the beach
Step 6- Come home and check account to see new PM
Step 7- Check phone and see no alerts

Suppose to Result: My phone should have gotten a new text message letting me know there is a new private message in my account.

Act result: There is no alert for the private message.

I tested this by using a mule to send to my main account and the only thing that worked was the profile comment (only box I've got checked) and when I chose the new text message. I failed to get the alert for a new PM or when I check the send also send as text message box.

I figure that if there is a check box for PM on the alert page then it would work again.

So it was put in to the carrier that there was an issue and a network trouble ticket was filed.

The network trouble ticket has been resolved and Verizon Wireless confirmed that the issue is not on their end. The trouble would be either with Gaia or with 4info (the site that helps provide the alerts).

I still stand by my idea that if a checkbox for PM's was added, they would work again.
The reason I believe that will work is because all the alerts that have a checkbox still work, so it would make it work again.

PayPal is not working and I can't just pay by credit card

Reproduction:
1.go to http://www.gaiaonline.com/payments
2.select cash amount
3.select payment method ( credit card, or paypal )
4.directed to PayPal log in
5. when i log in i get this message "We are unable to complete your request at this time. Please try again later. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Result:
I can not purchase GCash via credit card or PayPal and can not take advantage of cash items

Notes:
I tried manually entering my credit card number and it still didn't work because it was processed by PayPal. This is the third time in the past 5 months this has happened.

Not sure if this is related to my previous post or not.

The Astria items do not animate for me, even when "Flash block" & "Disable Auto-play" are turned off. They almost always show up as still items.

Unable to sell game items:

Step 1- Log onto www.gaianline.com

Step 2- Log in as user: User name and Password

Step 3- Go to My Gaia - inventory - organize inventory

Step 4- Sell a game item, such as a fish.

Suppose to Result: The item sells and gold increases.


Act result: The item will not sell. I've tried this with other computers and other forms of internet, but it won't work. It stays the item sell back is in progress, no matter how long I let it load. It does not do this with non-game items.

Loss of Winnings in Blackjack if internet is lost:


Browser: Google chrome
Operation system: Windows


Step 1- Log onto www.gaianline.com

Step 2- Log in as: username and passowrd

Step 3- Go to games - blackjack

Step 4- Win a game

Step 5- Cut off internet connection

Suppose to Result: The winnings are restored next time balckjack is played


Act result: The winnings are lost, completely.


Sorry this is not a bug. You need to save your game more frequently.

Suppose to Result: Threads and subforums with new posts should show new post icon. I only get the new posts icon if I'm logged in at the time of the post and check the forum before I log out. Each time I log back in to check my guilds, all posts revert to "read".

So, when I log in, this is what I always see, regardless if there are actual new posts in the threads:

Step 1- Log in

Step 3- look at store panel and see number of vends in store

Step 4- Go into actual store www.gaiaonline.com/marketplace/mystore/

Step 5- notice that the store shows that there is an item missing. (i.e: 6 vends and only 5 show up in actual store)

Suppose to Result: A Summer Gardener that I listed for only 3 days over a week ago has not yet expired and is "stuck" in the store. No one bought it, I didn't cancel it. I have two Summer Gardeners, one is in my inventory, and one is still "stuck" in my store.


Act result: My Summer Gardener is invisible in my store and is not expiring.

I got this exact error, and under the World tab as well.

So this JUST happened a few minutes ago. I did nothing special, either. Same message, no reward: "There was an error on the backend and we were unable to find a reward for you. Please report what you were doing when you received this error."

This happened on March 18, 2011 at approx. 2:07 Central Standard Time, which is just after 12:00 Midnight on the coast (a new day for Gaia Online). Just flipping through the tabs collecting my rewards, and- nothing but this message... stare
