How to report a Bug

First thing to do when a member contact you regarding a possible bug:

1. Check an announcement!
If user experience a problem during some new project push it is probably
temporary and will be resolved after push is completed.

2. Can you reproduce the problem?

To make sure the problem is real:
Clean up the cash and cookie
Log out and log in back
Is it still reproducible?
If it is reproducible, please provide the following information:

OS: Mac? Win? WinXP?
Browser: IE6? IE7? FF? Safari? Opera?
Version: FF 2.0.5? FF 3? IE7 sp 2?
Brief description of the problem

REPORTING A BUG

Provide detailed and useful information when reporting!
The purpose of reporting a bug is so that later on a Developer will have enough information to reproduce the problem and resolve it. Reports made that do not provide useful information and are vague with no detail will be deleted.

Be descriptive in your title
Don't just put "Bug" in your title. For example, if something like Cinemas isn't poping up, put "Gaia Cinemas isn't popping up Bug."

Here's an example of how to write a bug:


Computer Specs:
Windows Vista Home Edition

Location:
Slots (Upper right hand corner of game)

Bug:
Playing winnings button does not work when you have over 10 winnings awarded

Reproduction:
1) Go to www.gaiaonline.com/
2) Log in as a user: user name and password
3) Go to the web page www.gaiaonline.com/games
4) Click on Slots
5) Pick any available room
6) Click on the Join button
7) Click on the Play Token button
cool Click on the Spin button
9) Repeat steps 7-8 until you have at least 10 winnings awarded

*Current winnings will display the number 10, right below Tickets and Tokens on the left center side

10) Click on the Play Winnings button

Result:
The button will not work. The current winnings do not decrement (decrease). The spin button does not work since no winnings or tokens are used.

Notes:
Any useful information goes here, such as how often this occurred.

If you notice for the above bug, it is very detailed and concise. If you were to go through the reproduction steps, you should be able to reproduce the bug, or if it is uncommon, occasionally reproduce the bug. smile


How NOT to write a bug:

Notice how everything is vague? If you were to try to go through the steps again, you would not have a clue where to start. Try to be as detailed as you can by giving any information such as: computer information and what you were doing before, if you used any power ups, etc. This way we can narrow down the possibilities.

Bug:
Topic creation date and latest reply date when searching for through post history is the same. Each individual post in one topic is the same as the latest reply date.

Reproduction:
1. Go to www.gaiaonline.com.
2. Login to account.
3. Search a user.
4. Go to post history.
5. Notice all dates are the same.

Result:
Topic creation is the same as the latest reply on the topic. I also assume that each post is NOT supposed to be the latest reply, but rather the date the post was created.

Notes:
It occurs ALL the time. I believe it's the same for all users, not just me or a select few.

We are aware of this issue, our devs are working to fix it.

Short description of the problem: Aquarium Grunny Sub bought in the MP for gold is automatically put into Aquarium tank when put into main inventory. When Grunny Sub is removed from Main Inventory to Storage Locker, it is removed from the tank.

Operating system: Mac OSX 10.5.8


Step 1- Notice that a Grunny Sub has unexpectedly shown up in my tank giving me 18 active fish after purchase from MP on Jul-26-2011 11:20:09 AM.

Step 2- Go to Inventory Arranger and move Grunny Sub to Storage Locker.

Step 3-Grunny Sub has been removed from tank and tank contains only 17 active fish again.

Step 4-Go back to Inventory Arranger and move Grunny Sub from Storage Locker to Main Inventory.

Step 5-Grunny Sub magically reappears in the tank.

Suppose to Result: Since the Grunny Sub has never been formally added to the tank through the Aquarium Interface, Grunny Sub should not appear in my tank. Since there are 17 fish already in my tank, this should not be possible. The Sub should NEVER have shown up in my tank.

Act result: Grunny Sub is moved into and out of tank, giving me 18 active fish, when I move Grunny between Main Inventory and Storage Locker.

While Grunny Sub is showing up in my tank it is also reported as a Ghost Fish - that is, dead before it was even added. It is also not locked, so even though the Grunny Sub is showing up as the 18th fish in my tank, it is also available to be gifted or traded or sold in the MP. It is not locked. And again, I never properly added this to my tank - it showed up all on its own after I bought it in the MP.

I am only letting this go on during the day, and I am careful to remove the Sub from my inventory to my Storage Locker before the Gaian Day changes at night so the state of the error can be preserved (who knows what will happen when the nightly clean up/reset happens) so it can be investigated.

I also reported this bug here.

Short description of the problem:


Browser: Chome
Operation system: Windows 7


Step 1- Log onto www.gaiaonline.com

Step 2- Hover over shops and click on marketplace.

Step 3- The box at the top says "You need a trading pass to buy and sell in the marketplace", and type in password below.

Step 4- Click "I want one!" button.

Step 5- Button does not work.

Suppose to Result: Gives you your trading pass.


Act result: Button does not work so nothing happens.

Notes: Others have been having this problem too.

Unable to purchase gaia-cash via mobile credits.

Browser:
Google Chrome (reproduced in IE9)

Operation system:
Windows7 (reproduced in WinXP)

Step 1- Log onto www.gaiaonline.com

Step 2- Click on any link that leads to the g/cash landing page (the cash icon itself, the hyper-linked number next to it, the "refill" button, the "purchase online" link under the shop menu - they all work)

Step 3- click "mobile"

Step 4- enter your mobile number and click send or ok or whatever it says

Step 5- text message received properly, reply with "Y"
...nothing further happens.
...=no gaia-cash for Brazekool.

Suppose to Result:
A gaian is normally able to purchase gaia-cash

Act result:
A gaian cannot purchase gaia-cash

As far as reproduction and consistency goes, this has been consistently reproduced for about a week now. I've tried it 5-7 times myself under the different browsers and OS' listed, and other gaians have commented on the problem.
If I can give some sort of permission to look into my transaction records to check what went wrong, I give that permission.

Short Description of Problem: Fish in aquariums swim off the screen, past the "walls" of the aquarium. This is an old bug but apparently Panagrammic has asked that it be formally reported with screenies since he said it has not been able to be reproduced in house, and since I have screenies, I am reporting it.

Browser: Mozilla Firefox 3.6,19
Flash: MAC 10,3,181,34
Operating system: Mac OSX 10.5.8

Step 1: Log into Gaia.
Step 2: Play a game of Booty Grab, preferably one with fast moving fish such as (but not limited to) Dolphins, Grunny Subs, Angels, Witch Doctors, Lawnsharks, Alpha Grams, etc.
Step 3: While playing, watch the sides of the aquarium, especially the right side. As fish move about during the game, they will go past the aquarium boundary and "disappear". As they move more, they will move back onto the screen. While they are offscreen, any gold sprites or drops they drop will be uncatchable since the avatar with the Overseer cannot move past the wall. This is hard to capture as the fish move in and out unexpectedly and randomly while you're trying to play the game.

Supposed To Result: Fish should stay in the aquarium, as it has hard sides - and so should anything they drop.

Actual Result: they go hrough the wall, taking their drops with them.

Notes:

Screenies taken within the last day or so - please note these are only examples I was able to capture and not an exhaustive list by any means. On the right side of each screenie is half a fish or so of different types.

Bug: My My Gaia page and toolbar seem a bit different...just maybe 5 minutes ago. Maybe the programmers are changing something?



I was not able to reproduce your bug on Windows XP, Firefox 5.0. Works as expected. Do you still have this issue or it went away?

I was able to reproduce it at the time, but it went away later that day.
