Does anybody out there on this wretched website think that Gaia is slowly dying? You oldby's surely see that Gaia isn't what it used to be. It went from an incredible website, into a money-hungry s**t that doesn't even care about their members anymore. There's been nothing but item updates for their degrading "Cash Shop", and their not even trying to fix Gaia's problems. I still see a green glitch. There are still many hacked members that haven't received there belongings back. There are people that have been wrongfully banned and Gaia is obviously too busy thinking up more shitty items that they can make us buy with our actual money. Unlike all of the other petitions, I don't want a new item. All I want is Gaia to stop making such a disgusting, vile Anime and RP website. Yes, that's right. Before all of this s**t Gaia was for RPing and forums. Now they've got games, those damned ads, and they are more money hungry then ever. Did you know when the first MC, the Angelic Halo, came out only people that donated out of the kindness of their heart received it? They were never informed that they were to get a reward. Which is why they are so scarce. And now that they're using that to advantage, with the Cash Shop, and MCs, things are only going to get worse.

Gaia has been falling down since I joined in 03. It has made strives to improve itself but in each step it seems to be dropping things or ignoring problems. I remember when donation items only were 2,000 gold, now their unreasonable in gold value. I have always been up and down with Gaia feeling on the verge of leaving and yet I'd meet someone cool or Gaia would do something I thought "wow thats awesome" but lately, that is quite lacking unless its a glitch (like the giant rampaging robot for last summers event.) The quest system becoming a sponsorship quest system was kind of bad but I carried on feeling Gaia to be greedy but not too much that it would bug me. Three donation items in one month began to push it, but I smiled and bared it when it happened. The cash shop drove a spike into this however, as it began to push the idea that we couldn't get things without paying Gaia. It no longer became donation items but monthly collectibles. Now the evolution items are dragging things down even more. I enjoy collecting them, but the pace and the trend of pricing is getting to be very horrible. We don't even see a $3 one anymore but instead we have to feel lucky to get a $5 item pushed into the cash shop. With the rate that they do these items and the lack of more timely normal store updates its getting very sickening. They don't force us to get these items, but every interesting thing we want such as eye items, back wings, skins, most weapons, the evolution items, and now active items are being pushed into a pay to obtain thing and with the marketplace and inflation so bad theres no way some can afford it unless they pay or have untold sums of gold horded.

This was all just how I felt the greed lately, not including very bad decisions and lack of communication or the rash of unfair banings. They pushed the announcements out doing double posts twice this week. First they had to re-send the faunzy hoar post with a very little bit of new information, much of which wasn't the main concern. Instead of addressing it, the announcement pushed the same "buy it now!" feeling. The evolution report didn't need to be reposted even if some didn't view it, it just was a very bad thing. This isn't even getting into the fact that the urn is not only $10 but was released before that weeks report which leads to more greed feeling and bad decision making. Most things to be known on Gaia are said by a random dev/admin in a topic and they place it onto us to go look it up or read their journals instead of posting an announcement. Meanwhile however we get an announcement about time magazine putting them in a top 50 list which isn't much of a list and instead of just being happy they gloat and do an elitist post saying "we are the best and we know it" then linking to the voting so they can ensure they wouldn't be stuck in the #25 position in a very low tactic. I must also mention the label maker, aka stick the users in the eye with a sharp stick and laugh because it wasn't intended for us to enjoy but to send out and get more people on the site. Theres a lack in professionalism yet Gaia wishes to be seen as a professional thing now and not just something out of Lanzers basement.

Gaia is turning into a site only interested in two things it feels like. Making sure they get more members, and making it so those members buy things with cash. As stated, anyone with $10 can easily make a lot of gold quickly by selling in the marketplace. I've been on Gaia since 03 and while i'm not an active poster or do every thing on Gaia every day, the most i've had is 360k which only lasted a short time as i've had to spend it to keep up my enjoyment of evolution items, which I now can't get anymore as its just too expensive. I could barely keep up with donation items every month, but at least as a casual user I could.

Finally, on the note of activeness, this last month i've had insomnia at times. As a result I have been posting and being much more active than usual. That is, until I went to post (not refreshing) and I was blocked for a short time from the site for being too active which is fine if it was to stop botters, but I was loading a different page in and it says nothing about bots, only for me to stop being active. Further a very good friend who donated a lot to the site and helped me out was banned. The reason is they said she botted, but their only proof is that she was too active one day with over 9000 page views. It is a big number, but if your up 24 hours and enjoying the website should you be banned for it? She is still fighting the ban, but it seems they won't review the issue and are telling her she is out of luck.

In summary, Gaia wants loads more money than ever before while not giving a real good reason to why. They want as many people as possible but if your too active your punished. I'm in fear of being banned for even stating my dislike of this sort of thing or being too active on the site. This year Gaia has done nothing good to me except ask for more from it's users while providing the best things to those who pay. They skipped traditional easter and are using the battle system as a defense. I don't subscribe to the idea that the battle system after having little to no work for years is suddenly draining so much from Gaia. I don't subscribe to the idea that more poses = it should cost more money. I don't subscribe to the idea that mini sets = a proper donation item. I don't subscribe to the idea that we should shovel money at Gaia so it can turn a decent site into as big a thing as they can. I'd like the anime/videogame feel to return to the site and move away from Gaian High School (Prom? Come on!) I'd like better communication from them and not to the point that we have to hunt it down and I'd like there to be less of a greedy feel being given by the cash shop. I'd also like to not be afraid of being active or else iIm punished.

No no, not at all; I'm angry at all the crap content that's on CB as of late. I go away for a few months, and come back to find half a dozen users posting the same shitty thread over, and over, and over, thinking it's comedic gold. Guess what? It's not funny. gonk However, I was pleasantly surprised by this thread :]
I doubt that this is your first account, so I don't know what your actual join-date is... However, there have been a lot, and I mean, a lot of petitions made to have Gaia revert its changes. And I'm talking ever since the first change. I remember seeing a petition that fetched over 100,000 signatures. Did anything happen? No, but Gaia changed their layout twice that year, angering most of the people further...
Also, good luck with the idea of getting a majority of Gaians to sign this thing... With over 14 million registered accounts, more than half of them don't have any posts (this is from my observations using the old memberlist [ http://www.gaiaonline.com/forums/memberlist.php ], which is down now), and the very large majority are probably mules/abandonned...
And I know Gaia is all about its users; I often wonder what was the point of Gaia in the first place... I don't remember if that thread is still in existance, but the official explination was Lanzer and co. were skate-boarding, and they were all like "Hej guys lets make an anime forum lol", and Gaia was created. I wouldn't doubt if the money had gone to their heads, or if they just stopped caring about the user content..
Also, on the subject of the Gaia Cash Shop; they've probably hired a bunch of programmers, designers and developpers dedicated to that shop, whereas I assume the rest of their development programs are probably worked on by the same, big team, split into sections when something specific needs to be done... Makes things harder to get around, I dunno.

It's unbelievable how much Gaia has changed over the past two years.

Even though I joined in the middle of 'o5, I was still there for the fun Gaia. I had joined because it was a new website my sister had discovered so I joined. Gaians back then were kind and courteous. They donated out of the good of their heart from gold they had earned themselves. Now with all the bots and scammers, it's just unbelievable. Who else remembers when you invited someone to hang out with you? And at the top left hand corner of your screen was your avatar with your friends. It was sort-of like an IM. And the events just seem to be getting worse every event! Using the MMO that won't even come out for who knows how long as an excuse for the Easter event? Real nice Gaia. And then the high school Prom? If we lived it in real life, why live it again on the internet? I will admit though that the game was sort-of fun (LOL! DDR fan. xD) but it only got repetitive. The only worthwhile event more-or-less had to be the Grunny invasion of October 2005. I was in the process of moving and missed the event, but if the event is still talked about today, then hell, I missed one damn good event.

There is many things on Gaia that have changed. The log-in layout is purely s**t. When the announcement popped up I thought it'd be something good. But was wrong. When they asked for our opinions, I thought maybe Gaia should be given a second chance. The polls even showed our dislike for it, but they went along with it anyways. I let it slide and kept my mouth shut.

Gaia's just pushing it. The Cash Shop is updated every day, but what about the shops where everyone could buy from? Where we didn't need our REAL cash that we worked for, spent on pixels just to get rich. And that leads me to another reason Gaia is headed downhill. Noobs who are just recently joining can easily figure out the site. And are rewarded with a house set, a clothing set, etc. Yes the items are pretty cheap, but the point is, when us oldbies joined we were handed with peasant clothes. Nothing for our house. Just some gloves, shoes, and a dress (for guys, pants and top.) Gold was hard to earn back then compared to now. I remember first joining and looking around the site. The first item I wanted was worth 13K; my first reaction was "That'll take forever to get! Its so expensive!" Hell. 13K nowadays won't get you anything. All the worthwhile items are in the degrading Cash Shop and more than anyone would like to buy it for. And don't get me started on the 2% tax fee or whatever the hell that is! It's retarded and no one likes it. No wonder the Exchange has gotten more popular.......

I could go on and on about the good of Gaia and the loooooong list of bad, but then I'd be rambling and I'm already not really making sense. xD

I will most definitely sign this petition because Gaia is such a screw-up. I don't know if their even able to fix the problem because of how far down they are. Their freaking digging a tunnel and can't get out.

I'll never forget my first day on gaia... some chick I knew in high school came up to me one day and told me that I had to check gaia out and told me about HOW FUN IT WAS! With such a strong backing how could I help but check it out?! My first post was just something ridiculous about how I was deemed a true ninja by Master Splinter after beating Turtles In Time for the SNES (you know, like in the old arcades??)... everything went really well and some pretty funny conversations broke out, eventually it burst into a random battle RP that was amazingly funny. It was by far one of my favorite RP sessions I had ever taken part of. I made a lot of friends that day and I was extremely happy with my choice in joining gaia.

I was a really big fan of the donation items, and even though I never really had the means of donating it was always an extra incentive to be active in the forums, saving up to buy that next sealed and then waiting to see what was inside. However I feel like everything about that which was formerly known as donation items became leverage to make money off of the users instead of just something nice to give back for the users that donated.

next, the constant changes... as time went on gaia's layout and content went through several changes... some for the better, most for the worst. (in my opinion anyway) actually the only change that I really liked was the fishing mini game... if you wanted to take a break from the usual forums and still wanted to make gold you could still chat with people but enjoy that little mini game on the side. The incentives for fishing was pretty fly too. It was such a good idea... and you can't have too much of a good thing right?! Wrong... >_> now there are way to many mini-games in my opinion, enough to start changing the focus of gaia... the casino was alright I guess... but the rally and the word games and the puzzles... I don't really think they're necessary.

and now we come to the gaia of today.
all gaia seems to want is money and it feels like every action they make is related to money in some way. The quests could have been a good idea to get the gaia community more involved in the NPC storyline... which is practically non-existent now... however instead it has been used as a massive advertising ploy to force users to sit through some ad just to get some some random item related to whatever was advertised. Now the "monthly collectibles" are revealed halfway through the month... and after they are revealed everybody is still given the opportunity to purchase them directly from gaia. I'm not even going to get started on the gaia cash system and the cash exclusive shops... as if everything else wasn't enough they had to throw that into the mix... just for that "Et Tu Brute'" moment.

It makes me sad that no matter how many people sign this petition, the leaders of gaia will surely turn their heads and look away because their hearts have grown cold with greed.

despite that I GLADLY SIGN in hope that maybe they just might realize that they had a great thing way before all the ads and endorsements. Before feeling like it is necessary to get as many people to join gaia as possible. wow... I think I'm spent on this topic sweatdrop

I miss the old gaia like crazy.
I hope we can get gaia to make changes for the better.

I had an older account I forgot the password to so I do remember what go-gaia looked and felt like. When there finally was an announcement I was stoked because it meant there was an event or something. Now there's at least 5 a day that are about nothing. I wish they'd get sponsors for some of the older people here. I'm 18 and I'm not interested in movies like Narnia or the newest CGI animation aimed at 10 year olds. (I do realize some people are though.) I didn't even mind the anime sponsor, at least it fit in and we got decent items that look good. Compare the cloaks to the skittles items. I'd rather have one decent sponsor item vs 10 poorly made ones.

I understand that things change, and need to change. But it doesn't feel like they're taking care of the community here.

Two monthly items is enough. Please stop making items obviously ripped from other sites like 4chan. Update and fix the things that NEED to be fixed instead of changing things like the Train Station that just upsets everyone. We don't want label makers, or worthless features like that. We want better items, the damn Battle System, unisex items/recolors, and for the newer updates to be what this site needs and really wants.

I also have a problem with people, who have just recently signed up, saying they miss the old Gaia. They weren't around in 2003 when gaia was created. I think the people that should miss the old Gaia are the old ones, from 2003 or 2004, who joined, left for a while, and them came back to find things different. They who left, came back discovering that Gaia had changed tremendously. Like me, i joined in 2004, sayed till 2005, came back in 2007 and found out how it had changed. Like I said in my previous post, I don't regret it changing. It's not as boring as it once was. We have more things to do instead of just fishing or towns. I joined Gaia when i was 14. I'm almost 18 now, and addicted to it. And no, you cannot say "OMG you're too old to be here" cause i'm not. there are many people old than me on here and enjoying it. So..that's all I have to say.

No, I wasn't around at the birth of Gaia, but even over the last year, I've noticed changes that have stifled the cute creativity that first attracted me.

On another note, the Gaia Cash Shop has been flamed to death here, but there's something else to deal with: Gaia's overall economy. Sure, the Cash Shop is a great chunk of the problem, but there's overinflation to worry about, as well as making sure it doesn't happen again. As Raida-Tenba said on page 25:

That's a gold siphon. Right there. I haven't even studied the economy and I know how to counteract a gold pump better than Gaia (aside from the constant flow of CS stuff)

But there probably needs to be a better gold drain in effect. Yesterday or the day before, I came across a petition asking for the Daily Chance to be turned into an actual Claw game. That we pay to try our luck at. The author of the thread had impressive maths about how the free stuff/gold/tokens we get adds to an insane amount within just a week. I double-checked, and he was right. Here's the thread for more info.

All in all, it remains the same that we need a stabalization of the Marketplace. If a drastic move needed to be suggested, I'd say getting rid of the MP altogether. But, for a much less drastic move, perhaps putting caps on how high you can sell an item. People would hate it, I'd hate for it to come to that, but if THEY don't try something else soon (something other than a 2 ******** percent tax) there may not be any other out.

You know, why are the SELLERS taxed? Normally it's the BUYER that has to pay up.

Our beautiful hangout when to the pots in 2006 with a new layout design, then again in the same year! Another layout which we currently see. I did prefer the very first one. Anyways back to the point.

Gaia's new cash shop and sponsors are barely tollerabe. I bought MC's quite frequently. These days, they are no good. Look back to 2006 or even a few in 2007. But 2008 was it, no more. First the come out with this whole new shop, MTV Corture? Something like that. After sending us on a bizzare quest?

Here's an example of greedy:

February 2008, Four Horseman and Magical Girl!

The magical girl was cute and the four horseman were okay. But then the cash shop comes out with magical girl in colors and ruins it. Think, it they did that with every equipble MC, were would be? I say, in chaos.

Anyways, Gaia is in the pots, as you said. All they care about is money, money, money.

Heres another example. Think of Kiki Road Trip, not going far. There only going to the states were the largest member population is. Such as Chicago, or Salt Lake. Sadly for some of us, there is no way to visit them. Greed my friends, is a sin.

Is all I can say when someone shoves the entire list that I have been dutifully? trying to forget about for the past what...4 years?

I joined Gaia in '04, and have been on and off over the years. Loss of interest, too busy IRL, whatnot. But yet here I am, I've always came back. Everything in this thread completely sums up the feelings and anger of hundreds of members of Gaia, who over the years have seen their hang out slowly die into a commercial enterprise that as you guys so aptly stated, are only interested in money.

I would have to say I agree with all your sentiments stated regarding MCs and the Cash Shop. The Cash shop makes me want to kill some puppies or something, which I would be hard pressed to do since I love animals. But anyways, by signing I hope that we accomplish something and can help give Gaia a hard kick in the a**.

All hail the new Neopets minus the little animal things? I think not.

--&>) Did anyone notice how some of the Cash Shop items are way better then the MC's? The Hermes' Moon, for example. That is WAY better then all of the MC's this year. Disagree? Notice how things like Black Ops Gear or the Samurai armor are boring items, while most of the Evolving items are made of win. So, the one thing you could improve there is putting more effort into the MCs instead of using all of the effort on Cash Shop items, and also maybe lowering the prices so they're humane.

--&>) Why does the Regular Shop items suck so badly and then the Cash Shop items are actually worth buying (with gold)? When was the last time we saw a Regular Shop update that was actually worth it? The Cash Shop updates almost everyday, while the Regular Shops update maybe every two or three months if we're lucky. So Gaia, please at least try to balance out the updates for both Shops. It seems as if you're trying to suck all of the money out of us instead of allowing us to enjoy the site.

--&>) Label Maker? WHAT THE ********? Was there any ******** sense used when you released that pitiful update? What was the point in that useless, pitiful piece of s**t? --&>) Advertising Itself! Gaia needs to slow down on shoving the cash shop in our face at every turn, not just slow down on releasing items into it. The birthday PMs, the reposts of some announcements, even the time magazine announcement are very poor ways to handle business. We get announcements often, yet to find real information on the site you have to follow a handful of journals as well as go out and fetch posts just to get a clearer picture on things. Instead of taking time to say something mundane or to advertise itself, tell the users whats up. The label maker is a good example of this. Many dislike it being made, while others wish there was better labels or that we could actually make up the labels and avatars ourselves. With the lack of communication however, it has turned into something generally disliked. With proper communication, the addition of the $10 item and the more expensive trend in evolution items could come off as being not so much greed but with a reasonable approach to why things are. --&>) Focus! Gaia needs to focus itself. It's stretching itself out as much as possible while losing sight. We lost the traditional easter even because they don't know how to pace the MMO and were distracted with a Prom event which some users who couldn't load flash can't enjoy. It feels like the focus of what they were wanting to do and thinking about has turned into a rush for some things while leaving other things that need attention to wait. Another point to this is the focus of the site. It turned from anime and video game hangout, to teen hangout. The purpose? To try and say Gaia is for an older crowd. That's a wonderful idea. My account is not that old, but you have proven that Gaia was better then it is now. I agree on the ads, but as they have told all of us, they need sponsors to afford the things we are getting. Such as the battle system and a lot of different things that are coming out. So, the ads help us out. If it was not for the sponsors then, the site would not happen.
