i think everyone has gotten the wrong idea about christmas....its supposed to be about chirsts birth not presents its a great time for family but i want people to remember the real reason we celebrate...now hehe ive given my shpeal what do you think???????
Considering that Christ's Birth actually happened sometime around June 6th 6BCE, and that Christmas as we celebrate it was originally the Winter Solstice, I think it's fine the way it is now.

Actually, most biblical historians will agree that the actual date of the birth of Jesus was more likely somewhere between June and September. Christmas is just a rehashed version of the winter solstice so that people who used to celebrate the winter solstice in the roman empire when they were pagans could continue their holidays when the emporer's perverted version of Christianity was forced upon them.

Hmmm.... I thought that they placed his birth around spring?

Agreed, though. Christmas was just a clever ploy to stamp out paganism.

I think that might be why YOU celebrate it but, personally, I celebrate it because that's the day they let me off of work.

This year, I asked to have off for the solstice (which I DO celebrate) and it was refused because it was too close to "the holiday" and everyone was taking off. I pointed out that the solstice is my holiday and Iwas told that I should just celebrate on 12/25 like everyone else.

So, since the friggin' thing is forced down my throat, I think I will celebrate any damn way I want.

i think you should keep your religious beliefs to yourself, honestly.

yes, christ was born on christmas, yes, it was a great day, but hey--guess what. he also died for us to give presents to each other and to be thankful for everything we have, -- sort of like thanksgiving? just a day to appreciate everything in our lives.

No he wasn't born on Christmas. He died so that we could give each other presents? I'm pretty sure it had to do with sins.

Actually, he wasn't. He was most likely born sometime in the summer. There's enough historical events in the bible (the census being one example, which was well recorded) that the date can be accurately pointed at to a degree. he was very much NOT born on christmas day.
I THINK THAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT CHRIST

CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT THE GIFT OF GOD, JESUS CHRIST, WHO CAME TO EARTH TO DIE ON THE CROSS FOR our SINS!!!

. Christmas has gotten too commercial , and people have forgotten the true meaning for christmas. Christmas is about christ's birth not getting presents and all that commercial junk

So don't give presents.

Celebrate it however you think is appropriate and ignore the other people. Their celebrations do not reflect on you or affect you at all.

*nod* There's some historians who place it around spring as well. But practically no historian will place it during Christmas season. Ironic that the 'celebration of Jesus's birth' happens during a time that is least likely to be his birthday, eh?

It wasn't really to stamp out paganism though. The pagans just claimed that as the reason for the holiday. When Rome declared christianity as the empire's religion, the roman emporer actually didn't know a thing about it. So people just stuck christian titles on things and kept worshiping the same way, and that's what modern christianity evolved from. Modern christianity is really just old paganism in disguise. You actually look at the teachings of Jesus, they're like a cross between Judism and Buddhism. Originally, follows of Jesus were VERY against war, fighting, etc. Almost hippy-ish. Rome came along and said, "You have to be a christian to join the army" WTF?

I have no sins.

Further, any God who has to kill someone as an excuse to forgive people is an idiot.

Paul said Jesus died for people's sins.
JESUS said he came to teach.
(And for those who don't know, the old "this is my body, this is my blood" routine is actually an oath from that time that would be done between a teacher and students. It means "You're now part of me, and you have permission to teach in my name."

Who's bigger, Jesus or Paul? "Christianity" follows the teachings of Paul and typically fights those of Jesus.

Thank you for correcting me. I've only been going on this topic by what I've heard about it from people and different things I have read. I'm more involved in discovering fallacies of the bible at the moment.

Yea... I think that Christianity was originally supposed to just be more of an updated form of Judaism as I see it, mostly because I think that Christ was only a prophet.

Agreed. It also kinda bothers me when people say 'yule' and 'christmas' are the same thing, because they really aren't. Yule was around way before Christmas was. In fact, I think it was Yule that our modern-day Christmas was based off, but the winter solstice is right in there too.

I agree in lot of ways. Christ was definitely a good guy. However, Paul (who screwed up his teachings in a LOT of ways definitely wasn't.) Sad that Christianity is more based on Paul instead of Jesus. World could have been a better place. But romans like Paul better since he was a roman.

Corrupt churches have a tendency to ruin religions. I can just imagine how many lives and wars could have been prevented if everything had gone like it was supposed to. My own form of Christianity that I follow basically throws anything that the Catholic church declares law, Jesus' divinity, and most of all, Hell. It's like Judaism without Levecticus.

God sent himself to be killed to appease himself over being offended by his faulty creations. Brilliant move that.......
