Christmas, sadly, does have a new meaning to me. Free flight home to spend 3 carefree weeks in a city, with friends and family, that I haven't seen since June 30. Can't wait...

The chrismas we celebrate is based on a Roman holiday called Saturnalia, where everyone got drunk and naked and exchanged gifts for 12 days.

We are celabrating the Birthday of Jesus Christ. The wise men and the shepards gave gifts to him, and that's were people got the idea of gift-giving. Also (this might shock you but it's true) SANTA WAS INVENTED BY THE COLA COMPANY!!! Just to let you know 3nodding

Meh, I'm not religious. To me, it's just a time of year where I have to pretend to like some of my family members, but I get a kick a** meal two nights in a row and gifts all around. Christmas actually as a lot of pagan practices, since it was only implemented to try to convert people to Christianity. Christ was actually born mid-summer. They stuck Christmas smack-dab in the middle of a time of pagan activity to convert them.

For Christians who relate it to Jesus' birth yea it is, but there are people of different faiths and even some without a religion what so ever that celebrate it as a tredition. They arn't going to celebrate it for those reasons.

So what about all those crazy Jewish people who DON'T celebrate Christmas?

Or people who celebrate Yule and the Winter Solstice?

OR even, what about people who rather it just be a commercial holiday full of gifts and seeing family that you'd only want to see once a year?

My point is, not everyone celebrates the Holiday for the same reason and its ignorant to rightly assume that it holds the same meaning for everyone.

Actually, most biblical historians will agree that the actual date of the birth of Jesus was more likely somewhere between June and September. Christmas is just a rehashed version of the winter solstice so that people who used to celebrate the winter solstice in the roman empire when they were pagans could continue their holidays when the emporer's perverted version of Christianity was forced upon them.

yes, christ was born on christmas, yes, it was a great day, but hey--guess what. he also died for us to give presents to each other and to be thankful for everything we have, -- sort of like thanksgiving? just a day to appreciate everything in our lives.
