Social double standards and taboo. That's why.
I disagree with "n****r" not only because it's a pretty nasty thing to call someone, but also because it's a horrible mangling of the Spanish word "negro".

I thought it originated from the name of the country "Nigeria."
Yeah, you're super edgy for using racial slurs casually and assuming everyone who finds it offensive is just being overly sensitive. rolleyes
because Niger is an African country, Nigeria is an African country, and Negro is Spanish for black, we must definitely not call anyone the N word... it just doesn't make sense...
"n****r" has for centuries been the racial slur toward black people. As such it's still an offensive word, and it mustn't ever be said.

However I can understand one's frustration with how they can use that word and whites can't. White people can't even say the word "n***a" without running the risk of sounding racist. But that's double-standard. Put in a lighter note, if a white guy calls a black guy "n****r!" he gets his a** kicked, but if a black guy calls a black guy "n****r!" the other black guy says "Sup brotha?" xd
To the I am not aware of how racist America really is, Racism is still very prominent, I am not being culturally sensitive, etc etc comments :
I acknowledge fully how racist America is. And I feel that getting over social taboos is very important - everyone should be allowed to say n****r and it shouldn't be considered offensive unless if used as hate speech. I will be courteous to others, otherwise I will never censor my words simply because it's a "bad word"

The "N word" is not the only word. the "R word" is another one, as well as many swear words like ********.

If you are truly offended by what I say, then you are a victim of your own ignorance.

And yes, I realize my satire is distasteful.
Well the OP was smart enough to tell us the time we live in but I don't think that they are smart enough to comprehend the place at which we live...

Well you cant, aside from that, that word carries along with it a stigma of hate, and history of violence when used in the mouths of white people. I'm still trying to figure out how hip hop culture adapted the word and took of the hate along with the -er making it non hateful by condensing it and adding an -a but still, apparently things work that way. Just know that when white people use the word it serves as a constant reminder of the indignity that our ancestors faced which though none of us were there, we still feel due to racism and discrete discrimination in our own social periods which by multiplying what we are subjected to by 100 fold, we can probably get the gist of what it was like back then.

I have believed in the past that any person who used the word n****r were just ignorant, racist pigs who were less than human. This is because of that same stigma of hate that you're talking about - because I was taught to accept and love all people equally and that sort of bigotry was unacceptable. I still think that people who use n****r offensively are less than human or just stuck in an ignorant rut. Many of my friends say "n***a" to each other, even to their black friends. They don't view it as racist. At this point the word has become a victim of the internet generation, the children of which take everything and view it as apathetic and more as satire. Example : Dead Babies, Rape.

If someone is actually offended at what I say, I always apologize and explain my stance. From there they can take it or leave it. In person, I have never insulted someone with a genuine racial slur.
People are emotional zealots. That's probably not going to change for a long time. In the mean time, I will say n****r whenever I feel like it unless I feel like it might be hazardous to my safety (i.e. around a bunch of ignorant, militant black guys). The word has no significance to me because I'm not racist, and I'm not black, so I use it satirically or ironically.

Also, n****r n****r n****r.

Why does n****r have such high value in your lexicon anyhow?
