well seriously more is when it becomes a dependancy i think. when someone cant act normally without draining off someone else. i dont think scientists have tried checking whether animals drain each others energy......

To answer your question, it would be a lack of social interaction, yes.
It's a natural part of the brain to need it, otherwise the person goes insane. Quite literally. (i.e. that movie with the guy naming the basketball Wilson) Because we are social creatures.

There are obviously certain people need plenty more social interaction than others, and thus, assume they are a "psychic vampire". But I've already explained how there wouldn't be a psychic vampire.
