people dont hate Twilight just because its unoriginal teeny bopper garbage....

we also hate it because it further feminizes beloved mythical creatures.
Its basically brainless romance novel dreck...

the only people who do like it love it so much is because most of them have no excitment in their own lives.
thus the fanbase. tweens, teens, married ladies, lonely single ladies, fat people, emo dorks, fantasy enthusiasts....etc

people with no lives.

That may be true but I did read it with an open mind, then after my first read through I went back and analysed it and found similarities between this and other texts and movies. Some are too close not be plagiarised.

One I haven't mentioned until now:
Benjamin in Breaking Dawn, member of the Egyptian coven, has the ability to physically maniplate the Elements Earth, Water, Fire and Wind. This is taken directly from the animated series called "Avatar: The Last Airbender." The similarity is so close it has to be plagiarised.

Stolen from harry potter? Harry ******** potter? Are you serious? You are talking about the story of wizards, ogres, witches, and other creatures that is totally ripped off from other good literature of the past? About the only thing original about harry potter is a wizard with a lame a** name like harry.

Most things are not original in this world, but at least do not use a POS piece of literary garbage made for elementary school readers with lame a** characters to go after it. Just stop mentioning Harry Potter as original and good. It is a pop up book without the pictures.

You clearly don't like Harry Potter. I don't care that is your choice. But it is merely a reference and the only one that I can think of at the time. It may not be correct though, there are other more suitable ones I could've used but didn't cause I didn't think of them at the time.

Look, my like or dislike of Harry Potter aside, it certainly is not original or advanced literature. I will admit twilight is about the same idea as most other vampire literature and certainly not written with flowing literary prose that is above an elementary school reading level, but to use a book that is written for little children and uses common literary tools like wizards, wands, and ugly monsters is like bashing McDonalds for being unhealthy using Taco Bell as your example.

If you are going to use 20th century literature at least use something like tolkien. However, even that is a copy of works of the past that had things like wizards and dragons and things like arthurian heroes. When you are going to go after something like twilight from an intellectual point of view it would be good of you to be intellectual and use some good references. Otherwise you come off as one of the more ignorant twilight haters who have no real business being bothered at the intellectual levels of twilight, or because it uses a common pretext like vampires and werewolves. Really, what were you thinking?

My advice to you is to stop thinking that Harry Potter is decent literature and recognize it is just as fluffy and copies as twilight, only the author raped you for many more books, crappy toys, and will force you to pay for at least 7 crappy movies based on one of the most daft and annoying dimwitted hero ever to annoy us in a book. I have read both, and although twilight is fluffy, how the hell did you read about the supposedly most powerful wizard ever who doesn't have a clue about anything? You would think a vastly powerful wizard might get a backbone or a clue by the end of 7 ******** books. You just want to smack the little b***h, and you end up rooting for him to be anally raped for being so perfectly useless as a hero.

are you 13?

No I am 20, I am also a male so criticise me if you want, I don't care. I don't read much, or see many movies, that is why my reference base is so limited the only thing I run off is my general knowledge of various things.

My friend was sheltered as a child.

were you too? cuz thats the only way that you could have missed out on everything cool.

No I wasn't, I just tend to play video games a lot and focus on my studies of Ancient Egypt. I only read things that would interest me and I only read Twilight to get a heads-up for the movie. It drew me in then spat me out when I was finished. Twilight is underestimated, but I take the middle ground. I see Twilight for what it is without idolising it or flaming it completely, I take it as I see, as a great read but with its flaws and quite obviously its huge fan base. The fans are what ruins the story, but quite frankly Stephanie Meyer and Twilight is insulting to the English language as it pretty much takes Shakespeare and turns it into tripe.
That is where I stand.

You've gotten it wrong. Twilight is the originalish but crap one. Eragon is the unoriginal and still crap one.

I've never heard of sparkling vampires though. So maybe just a little?

Why do think I didn't mention it, it is the only thing in the books that is original, to a degree.
Well, my ignorance isn't exactly evidence. I'm sure vampires that react awkwardly to the sun have existed prior. I know of a few that weren't even effected.

Far Reaching
Aro and his shield, Renata, taken from Egyptian Mythlogy where the king is always represented with Ma'at behind him.
This is the exact same stance Aro takes with Renata, she is close to him, her hand on his shoulder, if you look at the artwork from Ancient Egypt you will see this imagery used with the Pharaoh.
Really?

Only prob is, yes they sparkle...but the sprakle idea was not thought out properly. Meyers states that they sparkle in light, with the skin being the reason. If the skin is the reason, what is the reason that they can be in school with tons of fluorescent lights and not sparkle. Just one of my many criticisms.

To OP: Also, Shapeshifters have been around long long before HP even existed. These new young adult authors are complete ripoffs of original work...
J.R.R Tolkien FTW so don't even tell me that originality is long gone. Before you flame me about Tolkien, I already know where he got some of his ideas from...the Viking saga...Volsund Saga or something?....You just have to be able to use your brain, not everyone can be a seriously good author, no matter how much they think they can.
Taking a popular idea: Vampires

You clearly didn't read the entire OP go back and read it carefully and I just said Harry Potter is a more well known source, and the stolen aspect in that book further proves my point that Meyer isn't original as she is using ideas of ideas to further push romantic drivel down the throats of so many young girls and middle aged housewives.

Authors and story tellers adapt many elements from other stories. Really the fact that the book is a story about vampires could be looked at as a rip off because obviously vampires where not thought up by the author. If an author truly did try to make a book of nothing but new ideas it would be too strange to read and would never hold an audience. I am sure you can dissect any modern novel and find elements that were used in other stories.

That is true but there are some elements that are directly ripped off. That is what I am trying to elaborate on, and the topic only poses the question, "is it original?". There are some things that are original but others that aren't.

EDIT: And the fact that people think this is great literature need to crawl out from their anti-read-book rocks they hide under...cause if you seriously don't see something wrong with whats even on the BACK COVER of NEW MOON....That is completely and utterly sad. She doesn't use true description and only repeats the words she tries to describe...*sigh* failure to its max v.v

Excerpt from New Moon found on the back cover

"I knew we were both in mortal danger. Still, in that instant, I felt well. Whole. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, the blood pulsing hot and fast through my veins again. My lungs filled deep with the sweet scent that came off of his skin. It was like there had never been any hole in my chest. I was perfect- not healed, but as if there had never been a wound in the first place."
