I have read Twilight, so before anyone starts flaming me saying "You haven't read it, don't comment on stuff you don't understand," believe me I've read it and to be honest, I kinda have an obsession with it, but from a different level seeing as I am a guy.
In my reading of Twilight I have come up with a few thoughts. People claim Stephanie Meyer has plagiarised her book. Now I don't believe this to be entirely true, on the contrary I believe sections of Twilight to be original, and if they aren't I haven't found anything to compare them to yet. But there are parts that don't seem quite right as if they have been plagiarised from somewhere. Here is my list of what I think has been copied from other places: • Skin of Granite stolen from the latest version of Catwoman that has skin of marble. This I am not 100% sure of but, Catwoman that had Halle Berry in it was released 2004, Twilight was released 2005. • Shapeshifters (Wolves) stolen from Harry Potter and the Animagus, only difference is that In Harry Potter the animal is a reflection of the self and would probably be similar to their Patronas and have to train for years in order to be able to do it. In Twilight they have no choice, they always turn into wolves as they are an American Indian tribe who has the wolf as their spirit. With this one I didn't go with the obvious similarity of the Lycans, I tried to find a similarity in literature looks like I found one. • Aro and his shield, Renata, taken from Egyptian Mythlogy where the king is always represented with Ma'at behind him. This is the exact same stance Aro takes with Renata, she is close to him, her hand on his shoulder, if you look at the artwork from Ancient Egypt you will see this imagery used with the Pharaoh. The Final and biggest one of all is this: • The entire story line of New Moon is almost direct knock off of Romeo and Juliet, by Shakespeare. As good as Shakespearean dramas are there is no need for them to be copied almost to the letter, using elements yes as Shakespeare is pretty much the father of the English language. The key difference is that New Moon doesn't have a tragic outcome, but this one is more obvious as she does state in the books Romeo and Juliet themes as Bella has to study it for English, by reading you can see the similarities, they are as plain as day to those who aren't blinded by fandom. There you have it, that is my interpretation, these could be wrong but I must request in your discussion of this that every person is entitled to their opinion and I don't a flame to start between the self-proclaimed Twihards and those that don't like the series at all. Discuss. Just a note, I posted this in the Chatterbox. The Noobs in there are clearly illiterate |
