It's a holiday. Not a person. Can a holiday be racist? The holiday doesn't even know what racism is. Are people racist? Yes, it's everywhere. Don't blame the holiday. Blame the people.

Smart. Now make sure you use this defense for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But, wait 'til they think of something to shoot you down. confused

So, for the past month I've been working at a Spirit Halloween store (seasonal-only store owned by Spencer's Gifts that sells Halloween costumes and some accessories). Not until the day before Halloween did I notice how incredibly racist it really is. Now bear with me, really think about it for a minute, while I bring up some key points that helped me realize this.

All of the sexy adult costumes feature white girls on the package.

The humor costumes are all white...
...even the ones depicting racists costumes.
Kids costumes?
Yep, every model is WHITE.

Second point:
Even accessory costumes are made for Caucasian skin only.
Every latex injury or skin attachment, WHITE.
Every bald cap or wig with bald skin, WHITE!

There is ONE group of costume and accessories that contained black people. Care to take a guess?
Pimps.

So, ED, with all your up-at-arms attacks on other things that might or could be called racist, why overlook the obvious: Halloween is RACIST!

ITS CALLED MODERN SOCIETY!

Cultural appropriation has tainted Halloween anyway with people pretending to be Native Americans, Gypsies (Roma people) and others... neutral

Could it possibly be that becuase Trick or Treat originated with the Irish immigrants and was adopted by the WASPs that there is a bigger market among these white people for costumes?

I am not really sure if dressing as another culture or race is necessarily racist. It is more like emulation to me unless it is done with the purpose of mocking another race or culture.

The famous iconic flim, The Wolfman featured Roma fortune tellers who warned about the werewolves.

I didn't say racist. I said cultural appropriation--a great example would be weaboos. neutral
That is kinda funny that the only costumes for blacks is pimp costumes lol. I think most things they sell are for whites, because (at least around here) there's rarely any black people around.

That's got to change; it will have to start with non-Whites that want change to make their own costumes and market them to other non-Whites.
Who cares? White people are in the majority of all advertisments. I don't see it as racist. I'd actually question the label if I saw a black person on it instead of a white person. It's just abnormal. Not that there is anything wrong with another race featured on something like that.

And I've heard that Holloween is a white people holiday. Not seriously, but in like comedy acts and such.

According to your evidence, the "Spirit of Halloween" store could be considered racist. Not Halloween itself.

Actually, I did always wonder why I hardly saw any non-white models on the costume packages... And when I saw a Michael Jackson costume wig at Hot Topic, the model was white. And this was supposed to be the Thriller MJ wig, before he got the vitiligo and turned white. rofl Still, that doesn't make Halloween racist. It just means that a company that makes a lot of costumes aren't racially diverse in models...
I agree, the drunk Mexican one, would be far funnier if it was a Korean.
