cartoon network hasn't been good for a very long while. the amount trash being shown is ridiculous and the age group for which these shows are made for is lower than it has been for a while...toonami is gone unfortunately and when that happened many viewers also left. neutral

*sigh* yeah, Chowder and flapjack are the only original things worth watchig nowadays. although i've never seen the secret saturdays, but it didn't seem all that exciting to me.

It would be nice if they brought back Toonami again... crying Toonami made me look forward to Saturdays I miss it. Please bring Toonami back again Cartoon Network!!!

I've been watching Cartoon Network forever. I remember when the network was really just a place Turner dumped their collection of old MGM, Warner Bros., and Hanna-Barbera cartoons. And I loved it. Especially Toon Heads. Holy crap, who remembers Toon Heads? I was a wee child back then, but goddamn I loved me some trivia.

And then the Network decided to work on original cartoons. Who remembers "What a Cartoon!"? Who remembers that episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast with the creators of Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo? Who remembers the swimsuit competition? The image of Craig McCracken with the innertube and snorkel will never leave my mind.

Ahh, the Golden Age of Cartoon Network. Dexter's Lab and The Powerpuff Girls will forever be two of my top favorite cartoons. Around the time they introduced Toonami as well. Back then it was like a spinoff of Space Ghost with Moltar hosting. Then they retooled it with TOM as the host and it was the action block we all knew and loved. It turned me on to anime and I've never looked back. Did you cry for TOM during The Intruder? I did.

Time went on and I guess a lot of us got older and stopped watching for a while. Dexter, PPG, Johnny Bravo, and so many of the original Cartoon Cartoons finally died and we were left with reruns for the longest time. Toonami was still running strong and soon they introduced [adult swim].

Toonami's popularity waned and got shafted to Saturday nights. It's not so bad, they tried to replace it with Miguzi. And hey, we had Teen Titans and Foster's Home!

What happened? All of that is gone now. Well, except [adult swim]. There's no Toonami anymore, not even Miguzi is left standing. The only Cartoon Cartoons left are Chowder and Flapjack and from what I've read from Greenblatt's blog, Chowder's already been cancelled. Now we have these teen oriented Canadian toons which while not bad, aren't that great either.

And the worst offender? CN REAL
It boggles the mind, really. It's called CARTOON NETWORK for a reason! It's in the damn title! From what I see it's like Cartoon Network is trying to become like Disney and Nickelodeon. LIKE WE NEED MORE OF THAT CRAP. Did they not learn their lesson from "Out of Jimmy's Head?!"

I will say that Destroy Build Destroy and BrainRush are pretty entertaining, though. I just hope the other shows will putter out of existence. Maybe Cartoon Network will realize they need more original cartoons.

And a final note: I think... I think [adult swim] killed he network. Not the block itself, however. I'm sure you remember the Boston Bomb Scare. In 2007 there was a guerrilla marketing campaign for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters which involved the placing of little LED images of the Mooninites placed in various locations in several cities across the US. Because of that entire fiasco the then current head of Cartoon Network resigned. One and a half years later, CN Real. Dwell on that.

You also have to think about how much money Cartoon Network is saving by not financing and/or acquiring the amount of animated series that they once did. I remember reading somewhere (i think it was an old issue of animation magazine) that an episode of Foster's costed $15,000 to make. $15,000 is actually pretty cheap compared to other animated series. An episode of any of the CN Real shows most likely costs less than that. Reality TV in general is a cheap way for networks to make money. In todays economy, sponsors aren't going to be paying as much for ad time. Which means networks have less money to produce or acquire shows.

You also have to think about who Cartoon Network's core audience are. You can easily find that out by watching the types of commercials that are played during each block. Those are the people that CN really cares about. If enough of them are watching CN Real, then I don't see it going away anytime soon.

The animation industry has always had it's ups and downs. Be patient, this time will pass.

When a network is named Cartoon Network I find the airing of live action fare a bit inexcusable. It was bad enough on [adult swim]. :/

I understand the network's choices looking at the situation from an economic standpoint, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Honestly, I'm ok with some of the live action stuff. BrainRush is very fun and Destroy Build Destroy is passable by virtue of Andrew WK being its host. The rest of it is pretty bad, though. Bobb'e Says and Dude What Would Happen are like terrible rehashes of America's Funniest Home Videos and MythBusters respectively. Sigh.

Whenever I turn the TV to CN I get hit with nostalgia bombs. Thank god for Boomerang, am I right?
