I like DC more personally but they both have pros and cons.

What are they competing in?
Neither company is better than the other.
Sure, the New 52 sucks, but DC's cartoon line-up blows Marvel's out of the water and the Dark Knight Trilogy is way better than cinematic Marvel, in my opinion.
I like the character costume designs in the pre-52 more than I do Marvel's, but I like the personalities of Marvel characters more than DC's.

There shouldn't even be such heavy polarization between the companies.
They're both so similar and have such great comics that you'd think the fans would get along with each other so that team-ups would be a thing.

Amen to all of the above, Captain. It's so hard to choose one over the other as "the best" when there are outstanding aspects that stick out for both companies. As for crossovers, All Access wasn't that bad. And from what I hear of the Batman/Spider-Man crossover, that one was pretty amazing. Still can't seem to find the two issues they're featured in myself, but I shall never give up!

"Favors" Batman? Of course. But can you provide any examples in which Batman defeated Superman in a fight in the "animated world" you speak of?

If the animated movie is anything like the comic, he didn't win that fight.

Marvel. All the way. DC in general usually made better films and TV shows, sure. But the source material? Marvel's characters were more complex, emotional, interesting, and they had the added advantage of living in a interwoven and linear universe that doesn't just reboot every 10 years to explain why their bad writers didn't pay attention to what the other writers were doing.. That alone makes it better. So ya, fair warning...if you say DC's better, I'll just say "Infinity Crisis". And if you start to argue, I'll just say "New 52"! Jim Lee.....ruining Superman's crotch for 2 years!

Marvel has Squirrel Girl, so your argument is invalid.

Eh, Marvel does the reboot thing too, just in small increments. For instance, when and where exactly was it that Tony Stark found himself held hostage again? And after being frozen at the tail end of WWII, when did Captain America wake up? Was it 1964? Or was it "just a few years ago"?

Marvel has opted for the James Bond method of continuity (at least until Casino Royale, and even then Dench's M muddies that up), where all the characters are basically stuck at the same age while the rest of the world moves around them, the way Bond and his supporting cast were from the Connery films all the way to the Brosnan films. The exception of course being Captain America, who is forever tied to the 1940s and looks around at today's world with shock at how much has changed as if in no time at all. Even then, however, the time period he wakes up to has been shifted just like everything else has.

DC's problem isn't that they reboot every 10 years or so, but that they can't seem to go all the way with their reboots and start EVERYTHING over from scratch. Case in point, all of Superman's continuity was tossed out while Batman and Green Lantern got to keep most of theirs, which was all packed into some magical "five years" that makes absolutely no sense at all considering, say, the ages of all the Robins. Damien Wayne alone makes no sense at all in a world where Batman has only been around for five years because he's already much older than that, and I think they even showed that he was conceived while Batman was already active.

Truth is, both companies have their ups and downs, and in many ways they're actually quite similar.
