-cough cough- Tea?
OK. So, this thread has evolved to the point where it's basically a random discussion thread. So, if your post is ignored, it's cause we're just kind of crazy. Read a few pages of backlog (1-2 is fine) and you'll probably be able to catch on to the general gist of the conversation.
This thread is basically "What-not-to-do-to-piss-off-a-lot-of-people" rules. Some are official Sticky rules, some are suggestions. Pay close and special attention to Rules #1-4, 9, 14. ESPECIALLY #4.
OK, RULE #.5:
WE DO NOT LIKE GIVING OUT IDEAS. If we had good ideas, we'd use them!. However, if you are stuck on an aspect of a story, we're (well, most of us) are willing to help. There was a thread on this that I can't seem to find. The Insomniacs Think Tank. If you find it, please revive it.
Now that I have your attention, whether you were coming in here to either flame me or start saying stuff like "i luv remis'".
A lot of this is sticky repeat, but apparently, no one reads stickys.
A few points to raise:
1. DO NOT BUMP IN THE WRITER'S FORUM. We move slower than a snail in a tar pit. Bumping increases spam and no matter how tasty that spiced ham is, we hate it in the forum. And it reduces any chance of having an intelligent conversation.
2. DO NOT START A NEW THREAD ON HARRY POTTER, STEPHEN KING, ANN RICE OR TOLKEIN if there is one on the front page. Unless your thread will be freaking originial, please use existing threads to discuss these things. Why? SPAM. &O
3. POETRY AND PROSE BELONGS IN ITS OWN FORUM. Don't give me crap about "I'ts literary". They've got their own subforums, goddamnit! However, discussions on poetry/prose techniques are allowed.
4. YOU ARE NOT A VAMPIRE. I'm serious. So stop pretending. And, this is just a personal pet peeve of mines, so I guess you can mostly ignore this one.
Oh, and.. You're not an anime character, you're not a werewolf, you're not Sylvia plath. So please stop pretending.
Unless it's a parody. That's fine. domokun
5. USE PROPER PUNCTUATION AND SPELLING and line breaks. Otherwise, the grammar/spelling Nazis/Pirates/Police will come after you like the Mechanical Hound.
6. DO NOT CREATE A NEW THREAD TO ADVERTISE YOUR STUFF
Some of you may remember another thread I made similar to this one, which linked to Attention: Stop posting poetry in this forum!
Well, I got a PM from a mod which said, in part:
Additional notes:
Do not create a thread just to redirect to another thread.
HAH.
7. DON'T HAVE ONE-LINERS Thread starting posts that have a message of less than a line long (IE Post whatever) usually aren't enough to get intelligent responses from. And plus, it's spammy.
8. READ OTHER POSTS BEFORE REPLYING It helps us. A lot.
9. DONT GRUB FOR SYMPATHY We don't care if you're a horrible writer. You're not getting any sympathy from us cause frankly, we'll agree with you.
10. DON'T PRETEND TO BE FROM A DIFFERENT COUNTRY. Geez. Please use English here, cause most people know English.
Do not make all or part of your post in another language just for the sake of posting in another language and/or showing off your MAD SKILZ!. Do not expect others to know this language, especially if you made it up. It is not cute and it makes us hate you.
11. DO NOT GIVE SPOILERS
Do not post major spoilers when discussing literature. Even if it's a classic/old/whatever. HP spoilers are okay three weeks after the book comes out. You never know just who you will piss off.
Like when I read The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin, it so would have ruined the book if I knew beforehand that __________ dies. Even though the book is, like, MAD OLD. If it's a significant plot point, it was emotional, and I cried. That would not have happened if I knew of it beforehand.
12. Um.. Worship Ebalicious?
Unless Nyx wants to add the rule that says: "All must worship Eba", then I'm cool with that.
13. Don't play the victim
14. DRAWING MANGA IS NOT THE SAME AS WRITING
Drawing mangas are not the same as being a writer. Besides, it cannot be an actual manga unless you are Japanese, or have it published in Japan. Yeah...so do not bother us with your drawings; this is a section for literature only.

15. 'NUFF SAID.
16. 'nother one by Lisa Faerie. Yes I'm lazy.
17. BRITE COLORS MAKE EYES BLEEEED!
And we don't want anymore "crying blood" poetry, cause otherwise, it'll be LITERAL.
18. Er. Yet again.
19. First one by finalrain.
edit: There's a Popular Authors/Books sticky now. Post in that. Courtesy of Lord Shishio.
20. Repeat Threads
Repeat threads do not require repeat replies. If one of the trigger happy n00bs (or newbs) out there makes countless threads of the same thing, then someone (not everyone) needs to reply to one (not all) of the posts telling the person to get the others deleted. The other threads should be allowed to sink slowly down the forum untill the culprit gets a Mod to delete them.
21. PUBLICATION
People should stop asking if 13 is too young to be published...how the hell would the publisher know what his/her age is unless they include it at the bottom of the letter. It's not a letter to Nickelodeon so its not necessary to add the age. Plus is shows a great deal of immaturity if people actually think the publisher cares what age they are, a publisher wont read a manuscript, think 'holy cow this is great' then look at the age and think 'oh he's 13, oh well too bad'.
22. TROLLING
23. QUOTE THREADS
24. Don't bump some useless thread
25.
26. WE DON'T STROKE EGOS HERE!
'Nuff said. We don't like saying your crappy storie is good
27.
Well, they're prolly new and don't know that it's been done before. Nyx should make it a rule in Post 1. *nudgenudge* smile
Thank you for actually reading this. First person to post something about how cool Harry Potter is gets a smack in the head.

No, don't ignore the "Not a vampire" bit. It gets REALLY, REALLY old, and will earn you no respect. It's more of an informal rule.

Lord Shishio
I notice too often that people walk in, read the first post, and scratch off a reply.
Which is oh so helpful, by the way. I'm glad they agree/disagree.
Speaking of that... What about the non-posts. "I don't know what you are talking about, but it sounds like a &thing&."

In light of a post I just saw... could you add "don't grub for sympathy" up there? --; I think my IQ went down just having READ this post.

13. Don't play the victim
The Lisa Faerie
More of a suggestion than a rule:
If you are on the losing side of the argument, don't play the victim. Chances are, on this forum, you deserve the harassment because you were a dipshit. Just let the thread die.
Man, I'm good.

Childsnake
Incorrect. 50% of manga (translated in english at least) is done in Korea. But besides that there is ameri-manga (i might be incorrect in the title there) Also 'manga' traslated is 'comic' and any one can do a comic (i do realise manga is refering to the style)

16. 'nother one by Lisa Faerie. Yes I'm lazy.
The Lisa Faerie
DO NOT ask people to PM a mod to have their story moved. There's this convenient sticky entitled "WHERE TO POST and misplaced threads" in which users post a list of threads that need to be moved to their proper (sub)forum.
17. BRITE COLORS MAKE EYES BLEEEED!
And we don't want anymore "crying blood" poetry, cause otherwise, it'll be LITERAL.
18. Er. Yet again.
The Lisa Faerie
New rule.
Writers' Forum is only Extended Discussion when we discuss writing in-depth. Under most other circumstances -- the discussions of life after death, utopia, do vampires exist, et cetera -- these discussions belong in the Extended Discussion Forum.

No starting new "What's your favorite book" threads! Take your bleeding, overdone nosiness and curiousity to this sticky in the Book subforum of the Entertainment section instead.

If you really &i&must&/i& have a quote thread, dig up one of the thousand or so already in the archives and post there.

24. Don't bump some useless thread
Namorvia
new rule:
If a wrong thread is past half way down the page then ignore it. This relates into the first rule of not bumping because we're so slow. If a thread gets half way down it's probably been dormant for at least an hour, which means the culprit is probably bored and long gone.
I'm sick of seeing poetry threads or spams being kicked out of the dirt over 12 hours after the last time someone posted so someone could write "this belongs in poetry/chatterbox". Any one doing this is spamming and making everyones time a lot harder.

Ergh can we add threads about naming characters to the list of No Nos? I am so tired of 1/2 of the threads being 'Name my character please?'
