EDIT: Hot damn, 5h dans ta peau is the s**t! heart
1. Artist/Group Name: SMAP

3. Summary of the band: A five-member Japanese Boyband group. They are extremely famous in Japan, with their own TV show and 18 albums since the 1991. Expect lots of harmonizing!
4. Recommended songs: Fly - entertaining music video and catchy harmonizing. Lion Heart - slick R&B track.

1. Artist/Group Name: Kashiwa Daisuke
2. Type of music/Genre: Post-Rock, experimental, electronic
3. Summary of the band: A composer who utilizes a lot of sampling and mixing to create minimalistic,post-rock tracks. If you like songs without words and stuff that is more abstract, this is for you.

1. Artist/Group Name: Perfume
2. Type of music/Genre: Electropop, bubblegum, J-pop

4. Recommended songs: Polyrhythm - an unbearably catchy electro-pop song.

1. Artist/Group Name: MC Solaar
2. Type of music/Genre: Hiphop
3. Summary of the band: A French MC rapping to some great beats. Even if you don't understand French, the songs are infectious. His music is a refreshing change from the trashy hiphop we have in the United States.
4. Recommended songs: Nouveau Western - An atmospheric track with throwbacks to cowboy influences. Les Temps Changent - a nostalgic track with lush samples and variety.

1. Artist/Group Name: Vanessa Paradis

1. Artist/Group Name: Kagrra
2. Type of music/Genre: J-Rock, Neo Japanesque, Visual Kei
3. Summary of the band: Before you groan and say "oh god Visual Kei", they are not the normal VK group. Kagrra is a 5-member band whose signature traditional Japanese style mixed with more normal Visual Kei elements and a more melodic sound compared to some artists in the genre has made them a unique part of the movement.
4. Recommended songs: Geez, where do I start.
Gekka Sousou, Omou, Utakata, Chikai no Tsuki

1. Artist/Group Name: Kurobara Hozonkai
2. Type of music/Genre: J-Rock, Gothic Rock, J-Pop, Power Pop
3. Summary of the band: A relatively unknown goth rock band, Kurobara won my heart with their most popular song, BLUE HEAVEN. Although I find their music slightly average compared to my favourite artists, I think people need to know more about Kurokai. Plus, YUIEL being the lead vocalist is just plain awesome.
4. Recommended songs: BLUE HEAVEN

4. Recommended songs: Stay Gold (their best song in my opinion), Funk-a-style (the name is self-explanitory, its funky), GO!!! [on youtube and things like that the !'s are left out, so you can type GO] (the famous Naruto opening 4 that everyone thinks is called "Fighting Dreamers" wink , Meros (it is really good), Planet Walk (one of their more rock-ish songs), and Re:member (Naruto opening cool .

2. Type of music/Genre: JRock
3. Summary of the band: Naoto Hiroyama - guitar. Ryo Miyamori - low vocals. Yamato Ganeko - high vocals. Yoh Miyamori - bass. Hiroki Hokama - mid-range vocals. They are little... different.

you should post all the french bands you know under thread directory section.
I noticed the French list was short so here's one person I like a lot. Hope no one else has mentioned her. o__O;;

1. Artist/Group Name : Alizee
2. Type of music/Genre: French Pop
3. Summary of the band: Alizée Jacotey : Singer
4. Recommended songs: Moi Lolita - It states she is a lolita who does horrible things. I think it's referring to Gothic Lolita.
Mademoiselle Juliette : Tells how Juliette would rather party than worry about the conflict between the Montagues and Capulets.
i'd like some jrock recommendations.

my favorite jrock bands are probably Plastic Tree.and Malice Mizer.

i'd like to hear some bands that are unique and experimental - but not too much screaming or heavy metal guitar.

i'd also like to know of any jrock bands that use a lot of electronic instruments.

i imagine i'm being too specific, but help if you can. ^____^
dear god! this thread sucks. i probably would have been better off making a topic asking for recommendations myself.
artist/group name: YMCK

genre: Japanese pop, with an 8bit sound

summary: the members are- Takeshi Yokemura(music, lyric, graphic, arrangement, programming & recording)
Midori Kurihara(vocal)
Tomoyuki Nakamura(graphic & music)
their PVs all look like a video game. XD it's amazing. they portray themselves as being 8bit video game characters, their image fits right along with their music. they have 5 albums, not counting their split album with De De Mouse. their sound doesn't differentiate too much between albums, but it's different enough that it's not really that repetitive.

recommended songs: Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? one of my very favorites. I'm not sure what to say about it, but it's a really good song. just listen to it. XD this is not a PV, it's just the song with the image from the album.

the other songs I would recommend are Down Town and Curry da yo!, neither of which have videos on YouTube anymore(in other words, they were removed), and I kind of doubt they're elsewhere... sorry.

artist/group name: Pizzicato Five

genre: Shibuya-kei, Indie pop is also listed as a genre for them on wikipedia

summary: members- Yasuharu Konishi, Maki Nomiya
Pizzicato Five is old. like, really. their first albums were released in the 80's. if you know capsule, think Haikara Girl and Cutie Cinema Replay. if you like (older)capsule, you will probably like Pizzicato Five. I think Maki has an absolutely beautiful voice. they actually had more members in the beginning, but I don't have time to list who was in the group and when. I am most familiar with it just being Konishi and Maki. if you wanna learn more, go take a look at the article on wikipedia. also, fun fact: Maki did a song for the We Love Katamari soundtrack.

recommended songs: Happy Sad very upbeat song, always makes me feel happy when I listen to it, but then again, so does pretty much everything of theirs. heh.

It's A Beautiful Day my favorite Pizzicato Five song. that and Superstar, anyway. ha ha. if this song doesn't get you in a good mood, there's something wrong with you. XD D:

this definitely could be better, but I hope some people read this post and maybe get interested in one or both of these groups. I think they're absolutely wonderful and shocked I didn't see either of them on the list or mentioned in this forum.(well, at least YMCK. Pizzicato Five is kinda old, so...) also, I would definitely put more Pizzicato Five songs 'cause I love them, but figured 2 was enough. ha ha.
