I don't think having remorse for a character is the same thing as that character being pitiful. But, I'd say that Light was most pitiful, because of how he acted before his death.

.Light. the spiral into madness caused by having the power of the Death Note available to him was just pathetic. he didn't even seriously try to remain at least partially uncorrupted by it. not to mention if he wasn't so screwed up by the Death Note he'd have seen just how bad it was for him - seen his chance at a normal life taken away, his family harmed because of it, the good chance his life would end early because of it, the chance at having normal friendships and other bonds taken away... all he saw was the power and it blinded him, until he overreached himself and it devoured him..
