Welcome to Gaia! ::

N u c l e a r Deathbat
Coldplay
The Beatles (I'm probably going to get flamed for that. But I've listened to them and honestly, I don't think they're that great.)
Rotting Christ
Kings of Leon
U2
Thirty Seconds to Mars
there are some other that I can't think of at the moment.

Coldplay and Kings blow. I don't like U2 that much but I respect what they did in the fact that they were pioneers in the use of popular music to send a message. And 30STM put on a ridiculous live show, it's mindblowing. I didn't care for them that much but my girlfriend wanted to go see them one year when they came so I got tickets and ended up being astounded. Absolutely one of the top three shows I've ever been to and I've been an avid fan ever since.

Linkin Park. In all honesty, I will admit I used to listen to them, but lost interest in them when they kept doing nothing but remixing the successful albums. They did put on a decent show the one time I did see them live, but it wasn't much to write home about even then.

Bon Iver(geez, how is 70's adult contemporary popular with hipsters?)

Thank you. Finally someone else who thinks Bon Iver is boring as hell.

M83 is another one that I feel like is waaaay too boring for how much they are hyped. But they have a few neat songs. Really there are very few bands where I find myself actively hating how much they are over-hyped. I mean there are a bunch of bands that aren't for me, but if people like them I guess that's OK.

The Beatles.
Really? I thought that people who didn't like the Beatles were too embarrassed to admit that they didn't like the Beatles? I'd hate to imagine what genres you listen too since most of the good ones draw on the Beatles as some form of influence.
Not really. And why would I be afraid or embarrassed to express my dislikes? neutral
And I'm 100% sure that the bands I listen to have gained no influence from the Beatles.

Avewnged Sevenfold.
I completely agree with everything OP said, and also...the Beatles. I don't hate them, and I respect them, but their music is just bland to me.
Foster the People, too, oh my weenies.
^Too much hipster music(not pertaining to the Beatles, of course).
sleep are the most boring band of all
my last.fm is a large list of boring music
People mentioning the Beatles, is one of curiosity. Whether you like them or not, there was a time when music variety was sadly lacking. They were of a different time, when the industry was still in it's infancy.

Beatles kicked off 7 years after Elvis broke the lot by singing Black music to a white audience. All the early s**t is 'love, love me do', and really nothing more than the s**t Coldplay regurgitate. Catchy tunes played in safe chord progression. But with a shitload of cash to burn, they had ventured out from their beginnings, and wrote some fine s**t. To the white album and beyond.

Rolling Stones went the blues route, and I would have to strain to number as many songs they did as memorable, compared to that of the Beatles. Their one exception imo, is 'Sympathy for the Devil'. But much of their s**t can easily be dismissed.

Having said all that, and, possessing a few of the above mentioned albums, I rarely listen to them, nor really have the urge to. But it doesn't make them boring.

I would argue it is far more difficult to get a break in todays industry, since many groups appear to be 'picked' for their niche, once someone talented broke the previous musical trend.

Since U2 was mentioned, their early s**t was raw and political. They boldly went 'out there' for a while with their 'ZooTV' extravaganza, but it wasn't soon after that many didn't see the parody, but their mission statement.

And I remember the stink a group called 'Negativeland' created when they brought out their album U2, since the band U2 argued it was going to take sales from them with fans mistaking the album for theirs.

But in the end, the music industry is not their for altruistic purposes. It is there to make money. A shitload in fact.

No, I am not a scientist, and would never make such a claim. Especially at dusk.

This particular topic is all about naming bands that are 'boring'. I would argue that this has more to do with the label, than it has to do with a groups artistic merit. There would be a certain amount of struggle, you could agree, that any particular band, may have to keep churning out the same old stuff, so as to keep record sales up, rather than taking the risk of 'evolving'. This is where my point on record executives would have a vested interest in keeping a group doin the same ol stuff.

I would also assume, this sort of stuff is written into the contracts. A would doubt there would be many groups that would have a say as to whether their song is used in an haemorroid commercial, or some lame rom/com.

There are very few anthology's of many groups, that you could see diversity in their music, without maintaining their high level of fame and fortune.

Just curious what you would consider to be some of the most boring/overhyped or just plain bland acts out there(other than Nickelback!)

For me the absolute most snoozefest put-me-to-sleep bands I've heard:

Bon Iver(geez, how is 70's adult contemporary popular with hipsters?)
Fleet Foxes
Black Keys
Kings of Leon
Beirut
Maroon 5
Coldplay
Toxic Airborne Event
Iron and Wine
Mumford and Sons
The Decemberists

With so many unique and catchy indie label and emerging acts out there, how this
bleached out yawn-core snooze rock/folk got so popular is beyond me.

Kings of Leon?

******** you man.

To quote a Mr. Max Bemis,
"There are babies with guns beheading their friends in shopping malls around the world,
Yet somehow the Kings of Leon still find time to write songs about girls."

Sounds like a matter of opinion.

And a dumb one, at that.
