Anita was woken from her blissful dreams abruptly as a blast of music sounded in her ears. She sat up in shock, forgetting where she was for a moment. It was another moment before her memory came back. She gradually sunk back into her feather pillow, trying to calm her heart beat down.
Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon,

Every way you look at it, you lose...
Groaning, Ani rolled over and turned her alarm clock radio off. The lyrics still lingered in her ears, bringing back the horrible dream she had just escaped. Every way you look at it, you lose... She did not usually wake up this way in the mornings, but this latest dream had been the creepiest of them all. Spirals, everywhere. The whole thing had ended just as she was about to approach the center of the mess, a mysterious pond...
With a shiver, she shook herself from her thoughts. They wouldn't help her start off the day right, would they? No. What she needed was a shower, she thought with a sniff. She scrambled out of bed, almost tripping over her fur carpet. She stopped for a moment to wiggle her toes appreciatively in the soft hair.
She threw her arms out in a stretch, then walked around her dorm, petting all the fur-covered surfaces. Her writing desk, piled high with unfinished homework; her chair next to the desk; the lampshade on her bedside table; the walls themselves, all pasted over with black fur. She moved around the dorm room, greeting the shiny pelts that seemed to cover every surface. With each turn, she murmured a name, occasionally stopping and staring at the pelt for some time.
It was her morning routine to greet her cats. Yet the smiles and loving words seemed a bit forced, as though something else was dominating her mind. The haunting dream still lingered in the back of her mind, casting a dark shadow over Ani's mood. She attempted to push it away, trying to focus on her morning greetings, but it pushed back stubbornly. A crease formed between her brows, and she gave another mental shove, determined to stop the dream from ruining her morning. Her mental shove seemed to be a bit much though. Her body seemed to have acted along with her thoughts. With a shriek of alarm, she fell right into her bedpost. The hard wood struck right between her shoulder blades, stopping her from hitting the floor. Though thankful that it had prevented an early demise, Anita didn't look forward to the bruise she would have later.
With a sigh of defeat, she strolled over to her dresser and pulled out her school uniform, tossing it messily onto her already full writing desk. Several papers fell to the floor, but she took no notice. She dived back into her drawers and pulled out some undergarments and a fine pair of bright white gloves and a hat. The gloves and hat she'd made herself, just like all the other fur coatings around her dorm.
She placed the undergarments, gloves and hat on top of her uniform, then turned around. She marched into her bathroom, and began to take a shower.
