Gay marriage? right. that's an oxymoron.

A Progressive Congress is an oxymoron.

Jumbo Shrimp is an oxymoron.

Gay Marriage is not.

Do you need a dictionary to look up oxymoron? I think you do.

Quote:

the defintion of marriage is between a man and woman.

Actually the definition of marriage is a legal bond between two spouses that confers certain rights.

Or historically an alliance forging bond between two families that had a woman as property for the man.

Or Abrahamic monotheistically as a forging of love between a man and a woman under God for the purposes of procreation.

Now, which definition do you think secular marriage fits under?

Yanno, the one that feminists, atheists and sterile folk enter into?

Quote:

i don't hate gays at all, but if they want to be married- call it a civil union. cause the only real reason they want marriage is for social benefits from the government etc etc.

That's the only reason most people want marriage. For the benefits. Otherwise them just commiting to each other would be enough for their love.

The benefits are the reason why anyone who doesn't specifically have religious beliefs regarding marriage bothers with it.

Behold, everyone! Catholics have to use the Bible to prove that the Church is the pillar and foundation of the truth! Does anyone else see the irony?

It is a raging shitload of irony.

And people wonder why I left the Catholic Church.

For Catholics, the Bible is a guidebook of some sort; I understand such irony and you as an ex-Catholic.But please, don't judge all Catholics as bad. And just to point out that these arguments about churches is off-topic.

I hardly consider Catholics bad. I don't even consider Catholicism bad itself as I'm no longer a Christian at all. So the fact that the Church is blaspheming against the Bible and God is inconsequential to me because I don't believe in God.

Catholics are just another sect of Christianity to me now.

But yes they are a little off topic.

If Baptism makes people perfectly equal, (One spirit one body) then why can't baptised women run the Church if they are now on equal footing with the men?

It doesn't make us perfectly equal. It gives us an equal chance of salvation and status as people in the eyes of God. But I am still a man, and you are still a woman.

But if we're equil in the eyes of God then how come women on an earthly scale have to be inferior?

Yeah, this would be right around the part where cuz papa said so would get mentioned like it's not a logical fallacy.

Like for instance, did you know that Catholics are Semites? A pope said so.

What causes you to think in the Christian scope women are inferior?

Brown v. Board of Education, IIRC. Separate but equal is unconstitutional.

Religion doesn't hold a monopoly on marriage anyway.

Because St. Paul says so, Tradition says so, and the Church says so.

And you say I have a piss poor understanding of Catholic doctrine? I am very disappointed in you.

Only repentent sinners go to purgatory, jackass. Purgatory is the purification from the punishment owed from personal sins.

Babies only have original sin.
John Calvin
Wonderful. You're presenting a verse in which I argued against before. You failed to provide a rebuttal concerning this verse. Why try to attempt arguing with you at all, if you aren't going to at least confess that "heretics" are right at several theological points?

It ultimately comes down to interpretation and application. Could the water imply cleansing from the holy spirit? Possibly. But in what manner is that applied? Water Baptism is my understanding. Can I prove yours wrong? Not without appealing to the Magisterium and Sacred Tradition.

I have no idea if this is actually true or not. But I heard on an episode of The Daily Show a while back that the Pope, or something to that effect, stated that babies don't go to limbo if they die. I'm pretty sure it was to make it easier for Africans that live in places with high infant mortality rates to convert.

It might have been the colbert report, it was too long ago for me to remember. Is this true at all?

Have you heard of a fallacy called Appeal to Tradition?
I don't know anything about the other claims, so I won't say anything.
