Anyone planning on getting it (or got it already)? User Image

Final fantasy XIII was kind of a disappointment, so I was wondering if XIII-2 is any better talk2hand

If anything he looks more like a male Yuna and Fang combined. Sora is too puny and has a head of spikes. ;>

Well, everyone besides the graphics were inferior to FFXII in my opinion.

The fighting system needed some work, the story was a little meh and hard to understand.
The final boss was also a huge disappointment.
I also felt that all I could was kinda follow the story. I didn't feel like exploring and the world wasn't so accessible, unlike FFXII.
The characters and the "setting" were ok, I guess, but not better than XII imo.
I adored Final Fantasy XIII.
I'm just too broke to get XIII-2 right now.
But it looks good.

Most of the characters in XII were bland and had no development IMO, but opinions are opinions and I respect yours. ;>

Anyway, fighting system is still essentially the same with a few tweaks. There's less downtime between paradigm swaps, so overall combat is smoother and faster. They've added wound damage, which reduces maximum HP rather than deal overall damage (can be healed using Wound Potions). Monsters bring their own special attacks to the table, being similar to the limit attacks in other Final Fantasies but with button combos you need to push.

The final boss in XIII-2 is much more epic and difficult than Orphan is.

XIII-2 is practically the opposite of XIII in this regard, because you're allowed to go anywhere you want to go whenever you want to go there, and do anything you want. If you want to stop following the story to visit alternative/additional areas and complete quests, you can. If you want to replay a certain story segment, you can. If you want to just run around and view the now more expansive and wide-open areas (not as expansive as XII however), you can. If you want to play some minigames at the casino, you can.

The decision is up to you. If you found XIII's story confusing then you'll likely find XIII-2's even more confusing, unless you're fascinated by time travel. I found XIII's rather easy to follow and understand, so I can't really speak in this area.

Thanks a lot.
I might consider buying it, but it's still not at the top of my list rolleyes

Noel looks like Sora... how?

I enjoyed XIII-2 more than I did XIII. Mainly because of the extra content. I went back to playing XIII the other day. Aside from playing around in Oerba again (the only place I loved in that game). It's quite... boring. Nothing to do except level up moar in order to do moar missionz.

My characters have long since been maxed out in XIII-2, and I still love playing it.

That's because they did have no development. : P

Though I wouldn't say they were bland.

I don't know. I only really thought Balthier and Ashe were interesting. I had originally thought Fran was interesting too until she just started spamming "the Mist!" every time she opened her mouth.

wow, this topic hasn't been binned yet?
The only character I didn't like (and when I say only, I mean out of every single character) was Penelo. A little too whiny, and no personality to make up for it.
I love everyone else, though. They didn't need development to be good. Not all characters do.
Fran is a little lower on the list, but I still like her. Actually, I like the Viera in general.

I think with XII, since it's not character driven like previous FF's, you have to look at the character's past and use your imagination to see that 'development'. Even if we don't see it through the course of the game, you can at least see where they came from, and imagine how they developed into the people they are now.

SE just needs to make a prequel. Like, seriously. I think there's a manga out there about Asch's past, but I want to see Balthier's and Basch's and Fran's... :/

XIII wasnt a disappointment, I liked it. I like all FFs in their own way. XIII-2 is fricken amazing, Im loving every minute of this game. People say the story sucks, but it all does kinda make sense and ties into unanswered questions in XIII. It kinda sucks that you only use 2 characters, but I love the different monsters and you can actually grind and you dont go in a straight line either.

The story is absolutely atrocious. One of the worst in the series. Otherwise the games fine, I guess.
