Back to the main point.
Edward doesn't want Bella to become a vampire. He's being over protective because he's completely against the idea, besides the fact that he wants her to live a long life. Edward is making the choice for her. He did the same thing in the whole vote at the end of New Moon, where Bella asked the whole family. Everyone said yes expect for Rosalie and Edward. If he loves her so much, why would he let her die, and then just end life from there? That makes no sense. If you love someone to the extent that Edward does love Bella, you'd want to be with them forever. Thus he should want her to be immortal.

Because he want her to go to Heaven so when the world ends she won't go Hell!
But if Edward can't live without her, then he'd want to be with her forever.
There in lies the dilemma!! and why we have been talking about Edward killing himself!
But him choosing for her, is being abusive and over protective.
As I said before he won't do it but if Charlsie does it he can't stop them. He has the right to choose not to do it.
Also you can compare this to two teenagers in car and one say lets drive on the wrong side of the road and one says no because it's too dangerous.
