Very well said! How can some people think Edward is the perfect boyfriend with all that against him?

Yes, but herein lies the real issue: who cares? It's not even real.

Ah but that is the problem isn't it? Dreams are sweeter than reality. Fiction better than fact.
The problem here is that Twilight says to young girls that they should look for an edward Cullen.
IN fact many girls at my school want him as a boyfriend. I knew a girl who didn't like the book. (When I kinda liked to book, in my younger years) Now that I look back I agree with her. edward is abusive and an idiot. But then so is bella. The only rational character seems to be Jacob and he's a *****. He's what fourteen compared to Bella sixteen? Two years younger than her...and he falls in love with her child? That is not creepy at all. In fact I'd say its romantic. (sarcasm)
Anyone who says "OMG jacob loves bella's child that's so romantic!" really. Did you ever stop to think since Jacob likes bella that he may be ******** her child to '********' her? (Fowl language for the punch.) Really? "But he's not that kind of guy!" -So you're saying that jacob won't have sex with bella's child? Look at bella? She had a child out of wedlock. "But edward LOVES her!" -Yes yes, sure he loves her. But I don't understand HOW she can get pregnant. As a matter of fact, compared to the 'many' vampires out there who are young males how can MANY teenagers NOT get pregnant with vampiric children? In fact what's his name 'James' would strike me as a rapist. "EDWARD IS NOT A RAPIST!" Maybe Bella wanted it, but if he's so 'controlled' why did she pass out from the pain of sex. He continued while she was out cold apparently. THAT is rape. Would you like that to happen to you?
O.o Really good forum. Usually I don't like it when people try to argue that something sucks because the whole argument almost always ends up lame, but this one, I do like. XD and I agree, you should be a lawyer or something, even if you're easily overwhelmed. I think you'd overwhelm your opponents first.

I thought Twilight was pretty okay-ish. D; Well, that was until I heard a bunch of girls talking about buying a paper cardboard cutout of Edward so that "he" can do the job that their boyfriend was supposed to (a.k.a, watching them in their sleep.). I don't know about others, but if someone was watching me in my sleep (unless they were screening me for some health problem like apnea), I'd smash my heel in right into their face. What kind of crazy fetish is watching someone in their sleep anyways? stare

I think Twilight has done something to half of the people in this world. There's people screaming "I Love You Edward" in the movie theaters. D: *shhhh* I'm trying to watch this movie. Also Twilight was "good" enough to solve the economical problems of local businesses in Forks. Not saying it's a bad thing, it's just that the effects that were created is massive;frightening.

XD I probably made no sense, but ehhhhh.

Communism is bad for your eyes!

I care because it's giving younger people a vary warped view on relationships. Case in point, my 13 year old cousin. She thinks it's "romantic" that a guy would sneak into her house to watch her sleep. When I asked her what would she do if her boyfriend stopped her from seeing me or her other friends, she told me it meant "that he loved her enough to protect her from possible danger" Now, my cousin is not the smartest bulb by any stretch, but those are the ones we have to look out for: the naïve (sp) little girls and boys reading this crap and not seeing anything wrong with what's happening in the story.
Now I know that I take that personally, but it leads me to wonder how many other girls are now fine with these stalker like tendencies and abuse. It scares me because I remember being taught about abusive relationships in health class, and one of the key signs for controlling boyfriends was not allowing the girl to go see other friends.

First time posting in this thread, and I just wanted to respond in general to those saying "who cares? it's just fiction" When I read Twilight, I was taken back by the relationships portrayed in this story, but didn't meet anyone in my school who didn't worship the books. It was a godsend to see this thread, and i will show anyone who tells me that Edward and Bella have a healthy relationship this thread. thank you everyone *goes back to lurking*

No wait, that's television. I get them confused
I love this thread, and I am so glad people realize he's an abusive boyfriend. I get disturbed when girls say they want a boyfriend like that.

Look at bella? She had a child out of wedlock.

Actually, they were married at the time that Nessie was conceived. (Also, Bella is at least 18 by that time. Not that it's not a little hasty to be starting a family - not to mention the cringe-worthy pregnancy and "birth" - but it's not exactly single mother dropping out of high school.)

Osaka - I hope your cousin comes to her senses before someone takes advantage of her.

KuroEnjeru - Cardboard... cutout? eek Egads, that's creepy.
Edward always scared the s**t out of me-- he was too much like a man my best friend had once dated (long-distance, thank god). Much older, much controlling (beyond a sexual dynamic- BDSM is not abuse. well, it kinda is, but the victim can stop it completely at any point- acting that way normally, without rules, is dangerous). He cheated on her, he cheated on other people with her, he threatened death constantly, and he stayed in contact after -he- dumped her. Just to b***h about his new girlfriends. She's still dating someone much, much older (which makes me uncomfortable, since our ages are still not quite to that magical point of truly adult self-assurance), but it's a MAJOR step up.

She loves Twilight. So much.

And watching someone sleep isn't that creepy-- if you're their parent, or if you're their significant other and were sleeping next to them, and you wake up, roll over and think "aww...." Even then it moves into creepy if you do it for more than three minutes.

For everyone that likes New Moon...I have an argument to make. A serious one. This about when Edward leaves Bella.

Edward does leave her when Bella become 'obsessed' with him. After he led her along like a 'lamb' into believing he wanted to be with her 'forever.'

But he said he would wait for her.-Not the point. The point is that he LEFT her. And didn't even bother in giving her a clean break. He made the whole thing messy, and shattered. If he was a REAL good boyfriend then he would at least TRY to make a clean break before he leaves.
scream If u read the twilight saga 8 times u would no that edward keeps bella from jacob because he is a young werewolf! and jacob is very dangourous just like edward is dangourous but edward can control himself jacob might be able to control himself but edward is not sure of that because he is so young. and even if jacob can he doesnt want her around him in case something goes wrong because if something does go wrong he cant cross the line to save bella or help her. so i dont think u really read it 8 times cause if u did u would no that scream

Dear Lieriel Moon-Shade
Edward did try to make a clean break thats why he left like he did telling her the same day, makeing it so that it would be like "he'd never excited" because he wanted it to be a clean break if he didnt try to make it a clean break i think he wouldnt of went through her scrapbook and hiding the cd and plane tickets under the floor boards. and i also think he would of left alice jasper and emmett and carlile and esme (i didnt lise roselie because she doesnt like bella) say good by if he wasnt trying to make it a clean break. also they talk about her broken leg and how it was a clean break when he explains to her y he left like he did. stephinie meyer says u should read the series twice maybe u should try it i no the 1st time i read it i missed alot the first time i read it, try reading it again and u will under stand there situation better

(i forgot to talk about the sleeping)
He watches her sleep because he cant sleep and he thinks that she is facinating by the way she sleeps its not creepy at all! and then when they r finally together she starts saying his name "edward" in her sleep and he loves that and she finds out that he is watching her in her sleep and he says "i find u very facinating when u sleep... u talk." (i think he like how she talks in her sleep cause when u talk in ur sleep u talk about ur thoughts and sence he cant read her mind he likes to hear wht she has to say in her sleep) and she doesnt like wht she hears and asks him wht she talks about and he says "mostly u talk about ur mom... u miss her very much and ur worried about her... and u say my name" so it would only be creepy if he wasnt being honest with her. and then that famous quote comes "if i could dream at all i would dream about u... and im not ashamed of that" (he says this after she hits him and goes i cant believe u!!!) scream so its not creepy at all! (im serious)

doodimcort666 :

1) Why would I read a book 8 times if I don't like it? I have read it twice, and you know what? Meyer is right. It did make more sense the second time I read it. The second time I read it, I realized exactly how unhealthy the relationship was. smile

2) It doesn't matter whether Edward trusts Jacob to control himself. Bella trusts Jacob to control himself. And who Bella hangs out with is Bella's decision, not Edward's.

3) So after breaking up with her, he sneaks into her bedroom and goes through her stuff, looking for anything connected to him, and hides it under the floorboards? That's not creepy at all. [/sarcasm]

4) Also, don't you think that someone who actually cared about you would respect you enough to tell you why they wanted to break up with you?

5) It does not matter what his motivations are for watching her sleep! She doesn't know he's there when he's there. Therefore it's an invasion of her privacy = creepy!

6) And God forbid Edward be forced to have a relationship with someone when he isn't privy to their every thought.
