Brilliant analysis

Too bad it's just a book
Wow this is really some interesting stuff. 3nodding I've actually read the entire Twilight series and your arguments really got me thinking. I've been literally spending my entire day reading through this thread. Although after the first 10 pages everything sort of seemed repetitive so I stopped at 20. =]
Wow you really wanted to show your point.Indeed youare correct!I'm okay with Twilight but Harry Potter is a thousand times better(and it had more fans). I also think Stephenie Meyer is a bit... wooo wooo(crazy). However, Twilight was well written. But Edward is indeed crazyish and controling and whatnot. AND THEY TALK ABOUT SEX!!!!!!!!!!!! like in the first book! ughh . no sex before marriage please(bella WANTED that)!
No words can describe how awesome you are for pointing this out. I am not worthy *bows down*

ok so im glad i didn't invest the time to watch the movie or read the book now that i've read this
anyways....

omg he tried to kill himself?
and then someone said that wasn't a control thing?!?

if someone ever told me "if you break up w/ me I'll kill myself" i would dump them on the spot and tell them to "freeze a knife blade up (in this case a wooden stake) in a block of ice and fall backwards on it"

wow, thats some crazy stuff
Oh, Heavens, I so wish that I had that tee-shirt. :]
Very nice.

Not to mention at one point in Eclipse, I believe it was, Edward leads Bella into saying that she wants to marry him (or wants to be a vampire, or something along those lines- I don't quite remember) purposely without Bella knowing that Jacob is listening. A very childish thing to do to hurt Jacob in order to get ahead in a pissing contest for territory- that territory being Bella. Screwed up in a yet another perspective, it being common sense to know that Bella would not want him to hurt Jacob like that.

Then again, Jacob had his demanding, controlling moments too...

Maybe Meyer has a thing for domineering jerks.

On another note, i'd like to adress the fact that Meyer never mentions a female character that flat-out is not attracted to Edward's appearance. Vampire or not, one person's features could no be appealing to every single person they encounter.

wow, I struggled through the Twilight series and never really liked Edward (especially when he got jealous and the whole marriage bargaining thing) but I had more problems with Bella (everyone suddenly seemed to like her, way too obsessive and whiny), and I never really thought of their relationship this way. However, reading your argument, I completely agree.

but Edward didn't say "if you break up with me I'll kill myself"

he though she died (when she went cliff diving) so he was gonna kill himself
One-hundred and thirty-four pages later....

It still has not ended. It is slowing, so maybe its death will be soon.

I remember when the thread was first posted. I was lurking then. Hilarious it still has people trying argue. Many times have Aldorel and others debunk all claims from the oppossition(sp?).

The morale of this thread has nothing to do with abusive relationships. From what I see, the only constant (besides Aldorel constantly debunking the same old claims) is Gaians not reading more than three pages. ******** that. The only real constant is Gaians not even bothering to read the first paragraph before posting. Damn. Tighten up.

Well, that was a bit of an explosion. I'm glad to see people enjoying the thread.

Grizzly Cow - And I should probably stop debunking old claims. So it goes.

Guma-san, I've gone over this before and you should know it. Yes, his threat was "I'll kill myself if you die" rather than "I'll kill myself if you leave me." Yes, the former is less manipulative than the latter. BUT it's still an awful and potentially abusive thing to say, since it makes Bella feel that she could potentially be responsible for Edward's death. Bella's already shown she has a martyr thing going on (thinking she should give herself up to James to save her mother), so she's susceptible to this.

i read all the books and jacob ends up dating bella's daughter so shut up
And that's not creepy at all. [/sarcasm]

It's hard to say goodbye my love, hard to see you cry my love...hard to open up that door, when you don't know what you're going for...

And the fact that Jacob's creepy doesn't mean that Edward's not creepy. Mike Newton, anyone? Staying single for now, anyone?

@Minari:
I sincerely thank you for not losing your temper and pointing out your side of the argument while being respectful of the others' points. *bows*

Minari is pretty awesome. Unfortunately, she hasn't dropped by in a while. sad

@Love Mara:
My father once told me that one of the most effective strategies for countering fanatics was to be able to quote said *object of fanaticism* back at them. Sure, he was talking about quoting the Bible to christians, but I think it applies to any situation don't you think? *smile*

Yes, yes it does. And it is awesome in any situation.

To no-one in particular:
Has anyone noticed that the people who are completely for the Edward/Bella relationship tend to have worse spelling and grammar?

Actually, someone did a bit of a survey and showed a moderate negative correlation between enjoyment of Twilight and use of correct grammar. Unfortunately, I cannot remember who it was or where they posted their findings.

Minari
(Not to say that she couldn't- it was quite well presented, but) The case pretty much makes itself. He is clearly an awful boyfriend, and anyone who actually thought about it would see that. Except that, ohwait! it's "Twu Wuv" stare
I can't help thinking of The Princess Bride when you say "Twu Wuv".
