I still think that you guys don't see a forest behind a tree. Those "Edward-the-Abuser theory" pros would like Edward to be like normal human boy and love and respect his Bella in a way not all human boys are capable of. Those, who think Edward's hot, idealise Edward's behaviour and would like to be loved in a way Bella is loved in a book. They both don't see a book for what it is: a dream about first idealistic love of young people being preserved forever under miraculous circumstances. Rather shallow writing and character development, but Edwards behaviour is logical though. In an equal relationship partner should respect each other's opinion. What if relationship is not between equals? Mother and child relationship? Not that some mothers are not abusers, but normally, child's opinion is not always taken into consideration. Mothers do not let their children outside in their underwear in a winter day, though it may be the child's choice. Mothers decide what a child should or should not eat, wear, study etc. Some part of a child's choice is considered, but only to some extant.
Vampire kind take humans as food. Carlyle family is an exception, they take people as fragile, short living beings, whom they constantly deceit. Edwards clan do not heart people, but they do not live according to humans moral either. So why should Edward suddenly reconsider? To become an ideal role model for a human bf? Nice.
I suggest one logical test for boys affected by Edward Cullen perfection:
Can your shoulders live dents in a van's side without being crushed?
If YES, go stalking girls in their sleep.
If NO, go back to homework.

I'd first like to mention that it's definitely not helping you when you use the "mother and child" argument. A mother and child kind of relationship is not healthy when put into romantic circumstances.
But anyways, this is quite different from the mother and child relationship. Edward not being human does not change anything about decision-making. Just because he's a vampire does not mean he knows best. He has the same brain he always had, the difference is only that he is physically stronger than her. That does not mean he should be able to control her or abuse her.
Edward does live by human morals. The only time something is not a "human" moral is if humans have never had that moral and never could. In conclusion, if it's not OK for humans, it is not OK for vampires.
