Metal is a guitar oriented genre, always has been always will.

not quite, i mean it is perferable to have a good drummer but it isn't really needed

isn't that really just comparing good bands to bad bands tho? I mean technically a good guitarist isn't needed either it just means your band will suck then. In my opinion both are extremely important but if I had to choose sides I'd go drums because I've always been more impressed with the work drummers like the drummer for Black Dahlia Murder and stuff can do.

I didn't mean them. xD I was just saying that in general if you have a drummer that isn't that good your metal band would suck. The same with a bad guitarist. Everyone needs to be good for it to be a good band. To say you don't NEED a good drummer is like saying your guitar strings don't need to be in tune. You can still somewhat play the tunes it'll just sound like crap.

I am a guitarist, I love cool guitar work, but there is nothing that truly makes a song as amazing drumwork.

Case in point, this song has great guitar leads, but where it truly shines is when you pay attention to those drums, those goddamn drums just driving the song, and changing what is the same lead and same riff to be something completely different when the beat changes.
