It's about time we had one of these lists, though I think some of those are a bit specific (like the tight-third person one).

Aye, and I won't argue that. My intent with this thread is to compile the threads that have been written here that are very helpful (IE the ones that people are always saying should be made into stickies because they're so generally useful). I'm not so concerned about the breadth of topic each particular thread covers, because even a narrow focus (like the tight third person or prepositions threads) can be useful if that's what someone is looking for help with.

This is on LiveJournal, not Gaia but her rants are worth reading. They will make you change the way you think about writing, expecially fantasy.

Want a list of good world-building-inspiration books that hasn't ben updated but this thread might change that?

Sure. biggrin I don't think there's anything in the list yet to cover world building (other than some of Limyaael's rants), so that would be helpful. Though if you know any threads here on gaia that cover world building, that would be even better. wink

I appear to have unsubscribed to it. I'll recreate it tomorrow and give you the link.

mrgreen You're one of the most helpful/knowledgable regulars around here, so it's natural you'd be on the list. wink
And first post updated. *prods tired brain*
More added. Anyone else have any to add? I know there's more than just what's up so far.
And another legitimate bump, since I'm now curious. pirate That and I added yet another to the list.

What about these rants, guides, and how-to's makes them stand out from other, similar threads? Obviously, there's the fact that they're more informative and more in-depth, but there are also other threads that have been just as informative and with in-depth content that haven't fared as well. My curiosity has me wondering what, specifically, people like so much about these ones that failed to be met by other threads.

And on the same note, if I have a thread on the list that, for some reason, you don't think should be there, let me know and explain why you don't think it should be there.
