TVXQ’s Ticket War
2007-01-16
“I was ready long before 9pm, but I still couldn’t get a ticket. I was in front of the computer the whole time…” said Kang Na-young, 16.
Yesterday at 9pm, the biggest boy band, TVXQ, showed their immense popularity when they caused an uproar on the internet concert booking site Interpark. Thousands of fans attempting to get tickets for “Dong Bang Shin Ki’s Second Asian Tour Concert-O” at Seoul Olympic Park’s Gymnastics Stadium on the 23rd-25th of next month came head to head, resulting in a fierce online war.
When tickets went on sale on the advance booking site, more than 30,000 people attempting to buy tickets signed on, crashing the server. Though measures were taken to restore the website, there was a repeat crash. Interpark’s phone lines were flooded with calls from frantic fans.
All 36,000 tickets were instantly sold for the three concerts. Last year, TVXQ’s first headlining concert set a record with 25,000 fans. About 30,000 fans stood in line about 150 km long to buy tickets for their show.
TVXQ’s agency, SM Entertainment was also bombarded with calls from fans all day long. Teenagers asked for ways to get a ticket and even offering to pay extra for the chance to see their idols.
An official at SM Entertainment said, “Calls from travel agents came pouring in, suggesting tours packages specifically connected to the concerts.”
SM Entertainment is now focusing on safety at the upcoming concerts. More than 100 security staff is currently being arranged in case of emergency and 3-4 first aid tents will also be set up.
