Hello steampunk peeps! blaugh
I'm doing my first steampunk mod on an old toy gun I found in the basement. I'm pretty stoked.
Sweet be sure to post some pictures after your done.
My crew's almost done! We finished our mechanic's outfit on Sunday (we're just working on her toolbelt). I'll post pictures as soon as it's done.
Here's an image from the July 4th show. It's kind of hard to see, but the guy behind me has lit my upper arm on fire.

Edit: Adding another one of him about to light my stomach. Sorry the pictures are so dang huge.

Wow I can just see a bit of flame... what do you apply so as to not actually burn the skin itself? Looks like it would have been a super fun show!
The theory is that the fuel on your skin burns, and not you. There's also a lot of self-control and pain tolerance involved, too. The same thing goes with fire eating - your cerebellum starts shouting at you because there's either fire going into your face or directly on your skin, so you have to learn to ignore it. Eating fire was totally scary the first time I did it, even with a very experienced teacher guiding me the whole time. Oh, and I know I don't need to say this, but DO NOT attempt to do fire torture or eating without someone to teach you.

The show was a lot of fun, I'm so excited to perform again. I'm starting training on fire breathing right now - getting the fuel to spray correctly is super tricky!

Greetings one and all.
Pardon my noobishness, but where does a lady go about getting a nice watch or so for a reasonable enough price? My persona is a clockmaker, so I need quite a few. I have one in mind, but I need some cheaper ones as well.

That is a good question. I too have been looking for a inexpensive watch. My one pocketwatch I self assembled with a watch face I got from Michaels inexpensively that I put my own chain on, but I've been looking for other styles as well. One of these days I will inherit my the old pocketwatch that belonged to my great-grandfather, but that's some time coming.
That depends on what you consider to be cheap. I got one off ebay for $14, but you could also try checking your local swap meets, flea markets, and thrift stores.

I consider $14 dollars a great price. I've been browsing ebay and such, found some pretty good stuff there, it's just with ebay it can be rather hit-or-miss...
Hello, I've been doing some steampunk designs lately and I've been wondering if steampunk can be incorporated into Asian cultures instead of European genres.

I'm a big fan of historic Chinese and Indian traditional details.

Would qipaos/cheoungsams or saris be nice to add steampunk details onto?

(Dragon headed pipes, yummy XD)
It can be pulled off, it's all in how you do it. Countries had steam technology before electricity, right? That first picture is a beautiful one, by the way.
yeah, I found the model gorgeous and the scene is very fitting.

I just found this picture by artist James Ng.

Pretty inspirational 8D.

This is nice too.

Any ideas what I can add onto such a theme without taking away from the traditional wears?
What if you did little gears where the qipao buttons, instead of just frogs? Or, if you're real handy with a needle, make some cog embroidery. Or work clock parts into hair pins and jewelry, maybe?
