SAILOR STEAMPUNK
I'll probably be in Central FL for my birthday weekend. When's Necronomicon?
whee
October 10-12
"This would be my first year attending Necronomicon [you lured me in with the theme!] so I'm not sure what the venue is like or what resources would be available, if any, other than just the space to sit. One really important thing I would need to know is a ballpark estimate of how many people usually attend these panels.
I'm toying around with the idea of picking people from the crowd and having them stand up and explaining how they could 'steampunkify' [XD sorry] what their already wearing, but I'm not sure about this idea yet for a number of reasons.
Please give me some opinions! What I am missing, etc.

The attendance for Necronomicon varies from year to year. It will defiantly be smaller a smaller affair then Metrocon, this year they are limiting the attendance number to 900. I don't know how big the actual convention area will be since they are moving into a new hotel this year.
Why not pick out people that are wearing steampunk clothing, ask them to stand up, and point out what pieces make their clothing steampunk (use of metals, color schemes, victorian accessories, use of ruffles/rouching, hats, etc). I would recommend speaking with them before the panel starts and asking if they would like to be models. They might even be willing to describe some of the work they put into making there clothing.
Depending on how much time you have, maybe you could have a brief Steampunk Fashion Contest, a quickie costume contest. Necronomicon usually gives out ribbons for different costume and art events, perhaps you could ask them if they would like to provide a ribbon or two for a steampunk themed fashion contest that could occur at your panel.
