Hehe, okies, glad I wasn't taken as being mean. I got slightly scared there. Cause being mean isn't nice (well duh, but whatever). ^^;

Oooh, in help to change pages or something (as well as just to share my glee), my goggles are almost done! Sort of. Just need to put a strap on them ... and maybe paint them. They're currently the color of duct tape, but I do not have paint, so... yeh. Also I made lenses of a green soda bottle (Mountain Dew FTW!), which makes them like six times more hardcore than they are without.

If my camera were not being evil there would be pictures. There might be, later, but for now, just imagine them in your mind, and join my gleeful bouncing! heart

Ooh, yes, that idea! I saw it awhile ago and then totally didn't post anything because my internet is evil incarnate and hates me. But! I like! Especially since the coat in the pic you posted looks all "I survived EPIC DESTRUCTION in this coat!". <33

Iiiii have no idea about how to work with / where to get that sort of thing, though. I mean, maybe you could get a pre-used firecoat (is that what they're called? Or is it something more propersounding? </airheaded question of this post> ), and re-make it a little different (since don't they usually have, like, reflective strips on them, which would probably not be very steam-esque?)...

I bet it'd be hard to sew that stuff, though. Probably need a really strong machine (or do it by hand... and use like pliers or something to pull it through... heh.)...

At home we do have several pieces of old and not working pocket watches, but really I have no idea how to make it to somehow dissect them and make pendants or something from them and if it would work :/ :S

Excellent Idea with the green plastic for lenses. mrgreen I bid on a pair of goggles on ebay yesterday. I'm scared to say which because I d on't want to be outbid but if I win them I will post the picture here.

Jeezus, I keep getting amazed by the Steam Punk avatars themselves here. xd I'm truly impressed by the people's abilities in looking straight out steam punk without too much obvious choices for items out there.

I've found bunches of them on eBay for like 10-15 USD. People are just giving them away in some cases. I've no idea why.

But, seriously, kevlar? That's gooootta be hard to work with.

just something i remembered the other day whilst going about purchasing a black pair of aviator goggles, do you guys in the US have army surplus stores?

Here is Aust we do, and i not only found some nice goggles but also aviator caps (real leather) and other such items. Might be a good place if you need those special accessories.

They're not the cheapest places to shop, but when the alternative is eBay i know where i'm going lol.

Yup, we do! Sadly, I don't have any in my area. But when I lived further north I bought quite a few things from them including jackets and bags and stuff. Great places!

In a town adjacent to mine there's a Rag and Bones store that carries army surplus. I found goggles there for fifteen dollars, and an aviators helmet for thirty. But it was real leather so I didn't want it. However, the military coats (and non camo ones can look pretty steamy) were like, six dollars.

One of the main reasons I rarely show up around here is cause with my current living situation I can barely spare -anything- or -anytime- on mere fashion items. sweatdrop Especially with a desperate lack of money.

I did see a pair of sexy goggles in a store today though... Metal, Mmmmmm~
