I dont know how I didn't se this...but anyways
I'm planning on going ot something called Burningman if you've ever heard of it.
and I wasn to create a VERY steampunk outfit that involves short pants.

can anyone help me find anything.
I need a ton of that old metal look and the old brown leather too.

can someone help me?

I"m extremely jealous. I'm considering going out there but it's just so HUGE [and very far away]. It seems to take so much planning and decision making and whatnot. Whereas for a con I just have to have a decent outfit and a ticket.

So I have always loved HG Wells, Love Firefly, basically I really like Steampunk.

The problem is, it's a wee bit too eccentric for my smalltown self. Any hints on how to have a more steampunk inspired wardbrobe without going all the way?

I've seen tutorials about embroidering cogs onto clothes and I think that will be a good start. Anything else I could throw in with my current wardrobe, which consists of a sorta menswear with feminine details sorta vibe right now.
Tiny5th: Oh, really? 0:
I'm sure yours is way awesome. :3

Jeni: Hm... I would say go to vintage/antique-y clothing stores and look around for basic things.
Like skirts, tops, gloves, hates, etc.
And find some googles and pocket watches and things.
Eh, I dunno. xD; I'm still really new to this. n__n;;

I want to go find some swim goggles and completely tear them apart. :]
Take off the rubber and put padding and wire and gears and such on them.
Does anyone know where they sell round-eyed goggles? 0:

Fortunately a lot of it is just a vintage, almost romantic look which is nearly always at least moderately in style. A standard, but modest example of steampunk would be pants, a plain shirt and one of those wastcoat vests. Dressy, a little trendy but still ultimately steampunk.

Hope Kaylily doesn't mind me reposting but I thought this was the perfect example.

I feel like sharing an outfit that I'm working on with you all. And they say that the devil hides in the details, but I think I have most of my details nailed fairly well. However, suggestions would be amazing. heart

You have no idea how hard it is for me to resist creating a copy fashion thread nestled somewhere in there... no idea...

[I would love to switch out the buttons in this for some
brass/antique-looking ones, and add some little flair bits]

Also, no one ever told me vests have been randomly back in style now... I guess it comes with the whole 80s trend...

*dreads the return of giant hair*
Someone directed me here, this sweetheart said my avatar is very steampunk :O
