That's so riculously awesome!

I've been gathering up pretty shots of random Steampunk gatherings to maybe add to the FP to give people an idea of what the fashion looks like in RL, not just in fashion shoots, etc. May I add this to my collection? I love that this is an alternative fashion you can pull of just as well at any age.
The photos I found via this piece of Captain Dantes of the HMS Amaranth and Lady Almira Inchcombe of the HMS Chronabelle were just too lovely to pass up:

Someday I, Kaiya Bravery, hope to have my own lovely airship [the HMS Latchkey] and crew of devious and inventive pirates [/pirateninjas]. Yes, I do. pirate And then I will have to turn down lovely gentlemen callers like the loyal rogue scholar I am.

I am extra delusional tonight. My apologies.
I volunteer for your crew, ma'am!
Aye aye, me too! Though I'm afraid you'll have to take me on as just a pirate and nothing more. When I try ninja moves, I fall down.
Count me in also! I can...uh, make the coffee? mrgreen

In other news, I've discovered some goldtone-ish (and slightly tarnished-looking, even!) metal rings in my jewelry making supplies (like, large ones! Semi-large, anyway... a few are palm-sized, and some are just slightly smaller), and have been geekishly trying to figure out the most steampunkish manner in which to use them. Ohyes, this style has eaten my brain, it is true.
I have never heard about this style before, but holy crap, love it xDD If I could pull it off, ttly would.

-goes back to lurking the pretty pictures- O3O
I also offer myself to your crew. I wish I knew more steampunk oriented individuals here in the San Francisco area.

Also, I've started asking around watch repair stores for broken timepieces... no luck yet.
i had to flatter my donator for the couple of watches he gave me, but unfortunately they're all very non steampunky even in part form...

*waits for paypal to go through so i can get my haaaaat*

We should totally make an official HMS Latchkey group xD

would be so tempted to join but i'm aiming to form my own crew for the HMS Venerable.

so far i have a li'l sky pirate, and my good lady may decide to join too
Lovelies! I apologies for seeming forward, as it's my first time actually coming here.
First of all, I consider myself an adamant supporter of the steampunk fashion and lifestyle, finding it to be my perfect little design niche in the world. So, you may ask, why haven't I appeared here before? Well, the answer is simply due to the fact that I'm usually only on gaia for a certain group of old friends. Today, by stroke of fate, I'm home with the flu, and decided to check on here for anything in regards.

And with that, I have a question for you. My senior prom is swift approaching, and you see, I have horribly scarred skin from some accidents, and I refuse to wear the typical revealing dress. I need to have my shoulders to mid-upper arms covered, as well as my upper back. So, naturally, the idea of a steampunk inspired ensemble popped into my head. Unfortunately, I run a low budget, and I can't afford any dress over $300, which is the price range I tend to find Victorian ensembles in.

Do any of you here know a place where I could find a beautiful dress without the damage to my wallet?

So far I've looked at the following:

Pinstripe Villetta Ensemble
Gothic Victorian Gown
Crystal Palace Ensemble
Midnight Bustle Ensemble
The Marquise + Specific Marquise dress

Yes, they're not all Victorian, I notice some are renaissance, but beggars can't be choosers and I work with what I can.

Upon actually locating a dress, I will of course be adding several of my own accessories and little touches.

And it doesn't have to be so ornate, I just wish I could have something elegant to wear that will compliment me. So, does anyone have an information or ideas?
Depending on the severity of the scaring I'd find things that complemented them (but I'm a weirdo when it comes to such things) Have you looked at Gentleman's Emporium? my other advice is to go with a nice pants suit which makes long sleeves much fancier and you can add things like jabots/cravats with a cameo or broach accent piece (sp?)
I've given the Emporium a looksie, yes. The scars are pretty bad.
hmmm unfortunately the only way i can suggest having it made under budget would be to either make it yourself or find a very very nice friend and offer to pay them for their trouble. Most gowns full stop appear to cost a ridiculous amount of money, let alone older style dresses which tend to require a great deal more fabric.

Odering a pattern shouldn't be super difficult, and if you're only planning to wear it once you may only need the outer shell of the dress and not the underskirts depending on the design, which would bring the price down again.

I'm not sure how it is where you are, but i had to get mine made by a friend of the family to keep my formal dress under $200, and it was one of the simplest dress designs i could find.

Alternately, you might have luck in a different way by not actually buying a straight dress. Perhaps a corset construction with added sleeves and neckline and a simple skirt could work, although that's only if you want to.
Good luck with it either way.
I had considered it, but I can't sew and no one in my family has time to do it for me. I'll see if I can get it in parts though, that might work out.
