My thread, my page stretchin' xD <3

-...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.-
hello again, ladies ~

i need some advice ! D:
i would love to try out a more sophisticated look, but i think it look too young/silly to pull off anything amazing like EGL.
i've been told to try out different hairstyle/makeup to make myself look more elegant and older, but i have no idea where to begin.

any ideas on how i could turn sweet, poofy lolita into something a little more classic?

You can try makeup and new hairstyles to find a more mature look for yourself, sure. One thing you might try are more updo's that involve braiding, twisting, etc. to find one that will make you more natural. A different hair color will definitely change your look, if you want to go that far. As for makeup, that's something to explore on your own so you can learn what will and will not look right on your face because of tone or facial structure and whatnot.

Also, more classic styles or colors with clothing will make you look more sophisticated. Muted tones like brown, antique white, dusty-rose pink (opposed to baby pink), darker muted blues instead of baby blues, things like that will help tone an outfit down.

thanks very much, Amanikitty.

i'm not terribly proficient with makeup - liquid eyeliner & a little foundation are the most i've used in years. but i'll definitely try to figure something out. (:
hair colour is not something i'd like to change just yet, but i love the idea of up-dos. i may have to get in some mirror practise this week to see what i can do with it.

colours - i've been thinking of putting together an ivory/shirololi outfit for some time now, so maybe i should try that out.
and i hadn't thought of dusty/dusk pink at all!
that's great. i don't want to have to give up my pink altogether.

Home girl, come to Vegas, the girls at the MAC I used to work at would love to hook you up. rofl

There are tons of simple makeup routines, yours is no different from mine. Hell, you can create a ton of different looks with just foundation (depends on what formula. Face powders are so versatile, while liquid is very limited in its uses) and eye liner. Question, when you line your eyes, what is your method? Just changing that can change your entire appearance. I'm asian, so I have very small eyes, one of my favourite methods of lining is Retrolining; It gives the appearance of larger eyes. Rather than a line traveling along the lid, you decrease and increase the size of the line, depending on what part you want to make look larger. Just keep playing around and tweak small things like that. You don't have to spend a fortune on product either. Although, since I'm a licensed beautician, I get artist discounts at many cosmetic shops -coff-.

@Sweetened: Thanks, and thanks for the advice as well, I'll definitely keep those in mind. As for the tights, they're not as bright as that stock picture. Like I said, they're more of a crimson red, rather than a true red.
wow. o-o
so keen to head over to Vegas right now. >.<

i use powder for the most part - i'm super pale, and i find that most liquids don't match my skin tone properly.
and i think i do the "retrolining" thing, although this is the first time i've heard of it: i make the line wider at the outside of my eyes, to make them appear wider/further apart.
it's still a very fine line though.

i'd love to experiment with makeup a little more. nothing too intense, but it'd be nice to have some other options.
my problem is that there are so many products around i just don't know what to try. ^^;
... go for some rockin' heels. <_<

For some reason, that always makes an outfit look more mature, to me. Even if it's still "sweet".
I forgot you lived in NZ, but really, drug stores. Perfect makeup to experiment with. They're cheap, and are really great for their price (although some can be a little less than desirable). Champagne shades are perfect on almost all skin tones. They give a perfect glow against mid to dark tones and are a nice shade of brown against fair skintones. They're perfect for highlighting. Oh, another thing, contouring. That's a very big thing. It can definitely alter every single bit about how you look. You have a round shaped face, contouring the outer perimeters of your face defines your features a little bit more and it will make you look older (in a good way.)

Also, retrolining is actually where you make the line thinner at the beginning and end of the line, while you make the center thicker. Kind of like a triangle. the line brings attention upwards, giving you much wider and larger looking eyes. Yours sounds morel like a subtle cat eye.

edit:

Plus one on the heels. It makes you look more mature than flats. Recently bought the dolly pearl AP replicas and I got more wolf whistling than when I wore tea parties. >_>

hi all ~

i just asked this question in the gauging/stretching thread too, but thought i'd come here for some more opinions;

having recently been told that i'm not a lolita because of my microdermals, i've been a little wary about getting other piercings.
however, i really love stretched ears.
not huge. just little cute plugs. :3

so i was wondering what kind of opinions are out there about lolitas + piercings.
i'm a sweet lolita, and the only other visible piercings i currently have are these dermals.

does it make less of a loli?
would stretching my ears be a bit too far?

thankyou in advance for your advice/opinions. (:

It would be a bit much but i think lolita is known for being a "natural" kind've look so look stretched ears would look a bit odd to me :/

.... precisely what's natural about cotton-candy colored hair, gemstones around the eyes, and doll-like contacts? <_<;;

'cause those are all really hugely popular right now.

Yea & it's part of the Decora style too.
Blackckat: I think she was pointing out that Cotton-candy hair, gemstones, and circle lenses are FAAAAAAAAAAR from natural...yet they're in Lolita. So your point is kind of moot.

Just sayin'

edit: Speaking of Decora...is it dead? I haven't seen Deco and Manba in a long while. Although, I'm not complaining.
spuntino: a lovely idea.
i want to find some ivory lace-up heels, although so far i've had no luck.
i completely agree with you though - very much a more sophisticated touch than my usual maryjane platforms. (:

Rozsi: oh wow ~
i've been doing fancy makeup things without even knowing - i do the tringle eyeliner thing sometimes too. d:
okie! i'll look into some cheap tester makeup next time i'm at the chemist.
also, what would you use for contouring? just a darker shade of foundation?
(i am a complete makeup n00b, in case you couldn't tell. >.< )
Contouring, I prefer using darker shades of concealer for contouring, but for starting out, I suggest using blushes. Much easier accessible, and you can deepen up the shading as much as you want. HUGE piece of advice, when looking for contouring shades, you'll want to avoid anything with shimmer. If anything, that'll just make the area stand out alot more than recede. Also, it depends from person to person, so also try to avoid colours that sway towards a specific undertone, avoid things that have a really warm or cool base. Stick with neutral shades, as I think it looks more natural.

edit: Ignore what I just said. Use a foundation that is a few shades lighter than your skin tone. The above is my preference, but it's waaay complicated. So just use a face powder darker than your natural skin tone. However, stick with something with a neutral base. Don't use anything that sway more towards either skin tone, as it tends to make your contour look like it's on top of the skin rather than being underneath it.
i don't think i'll be able to find anything lighter than my natural skin tone. ):

it's hard enough finding something light enough to match it. >.<
but i will search!
thankyou!
>_> dammit. I meant darker. rofl Use shades darker than your skintone.

Also, I had clients that had that same problem, MAC never had the right shades, unfortunately, however, if you have a Sephora in your area, they sell a brand called Illamasqua, chances are, they'll have your shade. They even sell a pure white foundation.
-C'est la lune qui conduit la danse...-

I don't know if they have Sephoras outside the United States, but you can easily just get products from them online.

Oh, I love E.L.F. They're great too, especially for starting out with makeup.
