I might be getting a tattoo, and I was just wondering about the basic aftercare?

I mostly have questiosn about what lotion and ointment to use or not use, and what not.

I only have two lotions at home right now, if necessary I'll go and buy some ointment or whatever.

The one I have in my lap is Aloe Vera after sun lotion, and I dunno if it matters but the ingredients are water, mineral oil, cetyl alchol, ammonium polycarylate, etc.

I work tomorrow but we have light t shirts that we wear right now, so would that be okay for it?

I think I'm going to get it somewhere on my lower back.

I just need some basic advice :3

There is a huge body mods thread on the first page just a fyi for the future. Just use unscented basic plain lotion. Nothing fancy. Don't soak it in water if you take a bath and don't let water beat down it in the shower. Just gently take some unscented soap and gently wash it. Then lotion 2-3 times a day. Don't glob it on just enough to make it shiny.

Edit: Don't use ointments or anything of that nature because it will smother it and it won't heal right. Don't pick the scabs either.
They have a lot of tattoo stuff out there, but I used A&D ointment (in the baby section in most places; it's found almost anywhere). My dad has psoriasis (a skin condition) and he uses that on his skin because it's full of vitamins A and D (thus the name lol) and it works really well to heal skin period. Just put a light coating on. Not too much but not too little. It needs to be able to "breathe". Do it a few times a day. Your artist will usually give you advice or give you a slip of paper about aftercare. A&D is really your best bet though! Cheap and affective. I used that for all my tattoos and they turned out fine.

Remember not to pick, scratch, or wear tight clothing while your tattoo is healing. Good luck!
For my tattoo I washed it with a non scented soap. Pretty sure it was ivory. And for lotion I used lubriderm. Theyll give you instructions on how to take care of it, you could always ask the person what they would recommend
Depending on how big your tattoo would be, would pretty much would determine how much of a "chore" it is to keep care of it.
Mine was a tiny one, compared to the others I'm planning on getting. For this one, I just washed with unscented soap..and used vitamin E oil for the first few days after getting the tattoo. After said amount of days, I switched to unscented lotion. Be careful some products will suck the color out; I think one of them is vasoline... honestly.

Another thing to know is don't coat your skin with the ointment/lotion. You want your skin to absorb it; not drown in it.. smile
