I just bought a nice pair of silicone 6 gauges for my ears. I am so excited for my ears to heal so I can put them in. But that's not for another few weeks at best. They're pearl colored and look absolutely classy. Does anyone else wear silicone gauges? If so, thoughts?
Also, my friend got 6g tunnels and they were metal. They cut her ear; is there a way to put them in so they don't do that, or should she avoid these kinds of earrings altogether? |

And they're not called gauges, they're just called jewelry/tunnels/eyelets, etc. Gauge refers to the size of the jewelry only. How did they cut her ear? How were they threaded? As for the silicone, I know that as well. I am waiting a few more days for my ears before I change sizes. After that I will put in the silicone. My main goal is to be able to wear them for Christmas. They're classy looking. 3nodding I didn't get a good look at the jewelry itself, but the part that goes into the ear seems to be just a hollow metal tunnel. And she cut the inside of her ear when she put it through. |

And she cut the inside of her ear when she put it through. Again, NO silicone in fresh stretches. Wait at least a month after you stretch before wearing silicone. If she twisted or pushed the jewelry in at an angle the edge might have cut her. Rare, but possible. Also, if she used these to stretch up with she might have just torn the inside of the fistula, which isn't uncommon but undesirable. I think she did use the jewelry to stretch up, because I don't remember her buying any other earrings when we were there. So that wouldn't surprise me if that's it. Any suggestions for healing it? |

I kept thinking you were saying you were going to use the silicone to stretch up WITH. sweatdrop For healing a tear, first off is to DOWN SIZE. You said she was trying to get up to 6g right? Tell her to go back down to an 8g for about two weeks or so, then try again. Make sure she's using a lubricant of some kind, I like preaching the wonders of Jojoba Oil. See if she can get some bullet-shaped plugs, Hot Topic sells sets of these with a pair of crescent-shaped pieces as well. These are great for stretching. Make sure they're METAL ONLY, preferably surgical grade stainless steel or titanium, you never want to stretch with acrylic or organic pieces. Also, make sure she's using tapers as well, and isn't just shoving pugs into her ears. TAPERS ARE A MUST! I wouldn't suggest using it on broken or potentially broken skin, as can happen with stretching. Jojoba is a plant oil but has a nearly identical molecular structure to human skin oil, so your body really likes it.
