I'd suggest taping. I don't have any personal experience with bigger sizes, but as long as you don't force it and stop if it hurts it shouldn't be a problem. If you have a taper, it's easier to see exactly how close you are to the next gauge.

having just discovered that the town in which the uni i want to go to is in has a body mod convention, i was curious as to what was the deal with being modded at a convention- can't be hygienic much?

Based on other completely unrelated Cons I've been to or know about, it's probably not so much about getting mods, but an expo to advertise piercing or tattoo studios, to raise awareness, demonstrate new techniques and promote retail sales of jewelry.

If studios did have something set up to actually do piercings or tattoos at the convention they would have to follow the exact same guidelines as anywhere else.

I've gone to plenty of food & dining conventions, both working them and as a guest. Just because it's not in the usual kitchen location doesn't mean that it's any less sanitary. It's usually MORE so, because you prepare yourself for being in an unfamiliar environment.

didnt hit a blood vessel thats down to the meds im on. they thin the blood so that was my bad i didnt link my meds with excess blood.

i've peirced ears and i am untrained and i have had NO issues. and i did use needles.
im not sticking up for her at all when i say this... the needles were half to blame... they said 14gauge on the autoclav packaging, alas they were not they were 12gauge and they weren't HALF as sharp as they should have been and that was BEFORE piercing, even i had problems using a 18gauge on my own ear and ive done that pleanty of times... my needles were perfect however!!
