Hair Makeover Time! [Help Please?]

Hey, so. I've finally got a really decently paying job, so I can start affording to do things with my hair, get new clothes, everything.

I already have a general idea as to where I'd like to be clothing wise, but hair and makeup are a completely different story. I always don't wear any makeup at all, and my hair is ALWAYS in a pony tail. I have dyed it brown, but I'm a natural blonde. It's naturally really thick, and really curly. It's coarse, and has a tendency to frizz. It's time for a redye, as my roots are pretty visible. Picture. (This was taken today.)

I'm pretty willing to do a lot, my hair's been every color under the sun and then some. My only problem is that short of one of those Ionic straighteners by Chi or some other company, I can't get it to straighten and keep it that way. My hair hits below my shoulders, and at it's longest point is almost halfway down my back, I'm just a little shy of that. Any suggestions you could give would be great.

Let's be frank with my style for a minute, I tend to follow more grunge, punk, goth fashions than anything. More grunge/punk. Crazy rock star clothes, outfits people don't usually wear in real life outside of stages, I LIKE feeling like I'm in costume.

If you have any style/color ideas for my hair pleaaaase let me know. Same with makeup.

Your hair looks very similar to mine, and I do have issues with frizz sometimes but have learned how to tame it without issues.

Straightening:
I have a lot of issues getting my hair to be straight, and I've tried all types of expensive products and straighteners to try to get it to be straight without frizz. I have even tried the InStyler from the informercials, and no luck.
BUT, I finally did find one that works brilliantly for me. Oddly enough it was only about $15 at Walgreens, and it's the Vidal Sassoon Ceramic straightener. It's very important that you find a CERAMIC straightener for your type of hair. Nothing else will work, I'm sure. I haven't been straightening my hair much lately and now my hair is curling nicer, and is softer.. so I don't suggest doing it often since it's so damaging, and curly hair like ours can't take as much straightening as someone with wavy hair. Find a heat protection spray, designed for protecting your hair from the harsh heat of a straightener.
Also, when I straighten I don't go too slow. I take one strand and go at a medium pace, and go over the same piece a few times over. And obviously start from the bottom layers and work your way up. (Pin the top layers up with a clippy or something so it isn't in the way.)


The Frizzy Factor:
There are a few things you can do. First off, I NEVER brush my hair. Ever. I comb it in the shower, then towel dry it, and leave it to do it's own thing. If I brush it it frizzes like CRAZY. And never, EVER use a blow dryer. That's just asking for a disaster, not to mention it's so damaging.
There are several products you can use to help your hair curl more, like gels you can put into your hair while it's drying, and conditioners to help it out.. but I haven't found many that work well. Honestly, for me, my hair is curliest if I shower, towel dry it to stop the dripping, then go outside and let the natural heat outside dry it. Sure, you'll be going in public with wet hair.. but it only lasts about ten minutes tops. I always get more compliments on my hair when I do this.

Towel Drying is Important:
Like I said, blow dryers are a terrible idea for our hair type.. seriously. I always towel dry, and I get compliments daily on my hair. When you towel dry do NOT pull down on your hair or scruff your hair around. I very gently take the hair in my hands from the tips and scrunch the water out. If you pull down on it, or wrap your hair up in a towel, the curl will be ruined for the day.
If you have issues with your hair being flat on top when letting it air-dry just run your fingers through the top of your hair gently. Do not pull your fingers to the tips, just push them through the top and then pull them out again so you don't mess up the natural curl.

I hope this helps, I have always had a hard time finding other people with my hair type who actually knew what to do with it. xD heart

Yeah, all I ever do when I have to brush it is I have a wide toothed comb I use in the shower. And I've learned the hard way never to use a hair dryer, I look like a lion afterwards. D:

Do you ever go outside in the heat with wet hair? If not, try it and see if it curls more, if so.. did it work for you? :'3

Well, I live in a climate that's cold like 9-10 months out of the year, but I have gone to work with wet hair if it helps. I work in a bakery, so it's pretty warm in there usually.

It does curl more.

I would LOVE to see you with this cut:short (but not too short), messy, pixie
It'd shape your face and I think this hair style is often seen on people who wear little to no make-up
it's be easy to style and manage.
I think it'd look good in blonde or brown

also:
maybe get an eyebrow wax? ($8-15 in the usa) They'll get it in good shape for you so that you can start plucking it on your own
but DON"T go overboard. make it too thin and you'll look bad :/ I like your bushy-ish eyebrows it's natural and cute

same with eyeliner which i think is a safe assumption to say that you'll get into that

I do mine thicker at the ends and then as i move in i make it thinner
and the bottom i usually only go half way or 1/3rd on the way in

it's real easy and makes your eyes look bigger. i think ref this pic for your eyebrows too ; )

OH AND with short hair like that wavy would be fine or even straight it's uber easyy ;D

I was thinking about going shorter, that might be a fun option.
And yeah I know I have bushy eyebrows, hahaha.
The last time I got a wax she made them way too thin, like, they were rivaling the thinness of drawn on eyebrows. I was so pissed.
