I figured it needed one thing, for sure: a guide ;D

Not a guide on how to accomplish a specific style -- how boring and cliche D:
But rather, a guide on how to develop your own style~


I am all for constructive criticism in perfecting this guide, but those who make posts intended to incite drama will be put on my ignore list.

|| The Basics ||


First things first, if you want to create your own personal style:
Disregard others' opinions.
Who cares if your shoes aren't the latest style or the popular kids don't like your shirt?

Once you get over that hump, things will get easier.

High school and junior high can be cruel, definately, but the sooner you learn that their opinions don't matter, the better off you'll be in life.



Secondly, don't take what I say too seriously.
This is a slight guide to get you started -- not to tell you exactly what to wear :3
That's a bit contrary >w<;



Third, always go with your gut instinct.
If you don't like something, don't wear it. Love it? Then work it! :D
This ties in to number one and number two, sort of culminating them together.


Fourth, stick with what looks good on you.
Keep in mind what's flattering for your body type and shape -- it's not as fun to look at your unique style when it doesn't fit you right D:


It's all about what you like and feel comfortable in.

|| Your Base ||


As I get started here, let me give you an idea of the direction I'm moving in.

I'm breaking it up into three categories: a base, colour, and accessories.
In order to create a consistent style, pick one category to be set for you, that you won't change.

This'll make more sense later >w<;




What is your base..?

-Your base is the basis of the style you are going for.
I'm sure you are aware of the different styles out there -- punk, scene, preppy, gothic, decora, lolita, and lots, lots more O:
These are all base styles -- manipulating them to create your own take is how to create something unique.

How do I pick a base..?

-You can either:
|| choose one base to stick with
|| choose a few bases and stick with one colour scheme or accessory style

It's basically all about what you are comfortable with.


I've got my base, now what..?

-Now it's time to move on to the next categories and to really revolutionize your look! :D

Now you've got your base to work with -- time to make it unique :3


Colours are definately the easiest way to do this.


What does the gothic look say to you colour-wise..? Black?
Why not move out of the box and add some yellow or blue O:

Is the preppy look all about pink and pastel colours..?
Add some dark jewel tones to make your look pop.


How do I choose a colour scheme..?
-It's not just about going contrary to the usual for your "base".
It's also about what looks great together and complements each other.

Try mixing up warm and cool colours.
Black and white tend to make things pop and give them a cool "mod" edge.
Use colour combinations you don't normally see.


Can I keep my colour consistent rather than my base...?
-Definately!
That's what I do a lot of the time -- I stick with bright colours with dark accents, but I can range from punk to decora to lolita.

Build your wardrobe around your colour scheme and look for unique pieces that will fit with the scheme.

|| Accessories ||


This is the finishing touch to your unique style :3

Will you accessorize as much as possible with fun costume jewelry?
Will you go "classic"?
Or maybe you'll go the vintage route.


What do accessories entail..?
-This doesn't just mean jewelry, although that's a big portion.
It also involves hair style, hair pieces, shoes, even socks.



How do I choose my accessories..?
-Again, it's much about what you love and are comfortable with.
Look for unique things -- raid your little sister's jewelry box, shop at the dollar store, check consignment shops.
Try going for something you don't see every day.


Can I keep my accessories consistent rather than colour or my "base"..?
-But of course~ ^0^
Once again, try looking for pieces that will fit your accessories style and build your jewelry box around it.

-A lot of times, it's a matter of working backwards. Go window-shopping and take note of the clothing you're drawn to -- work around that :3

-I'm sorry you think that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
I do my best to help, and judging by the hundreds who post and lurk here, I know I'm doing just fine :]

-Generally, no, I'm sorry D':
I may make an acception though, so ask me about specific instances.


Are you going to major in design..?
-Nope, I'm actually majoring in Liberal Arts, International Studies concentration.
No clue what I want to do with it yet, but I'm hoping I'll enjoy it :]

-It's a pet peeve of mine. It takes up space in a post and looks tacky.
Quote the specific part if you absolutely have to, or just reference the post.
I have never seen a need for someone to quote the entire post.

i wear a fanny pack in school.

It carrys my diabetic supplies (meter, glucagon, etc.)
