I guess people are assuming that because it has a big name (or rather, a very common and well-known) label on it, that it is "designer".

We're talking "designer" brands on the basis of quality, not name.
Sure, Juicy Couture is sold at Neiman Marcus...
But their quality of workmanship is terrible.
