Welcome to Gaia! ::

I know this is probobly a n00b xd question but, Why did the fugees break up. I mean they made good music, you can own me pwn me flame me but just tell me a dang answer xd
When they first split up?

I think it had to do with Lauryn & Wyclef falling-out.

Wyclef thought he was responsible for the Fugees' success and Lauryn felt that she wasn't being given enough credit. Something like that. confused
WHO THE ******** ARE THE FUGEES?! :SCREAM:

nah jokes, i only really liked a few songs from them anyways dramallama dramallama dramallama dramallama dramallama
They broke up basically because the only reason the Fugees made the Score was because Lauryn ripped up the Blunted on Reality album. She got the critical acclaim for it, and on the Score they claimed that Wyclef was responsible for everything on it.

Or that's what they were telling people. A large part of it has to do with the fact that Lauryn was in love with Clef, and they couldn't work that s**t out.
What happened is simple enough. The Fugees as themselves never really had sucess. Their biggest hit was "Fu-Gee-La", and that's it I'm afraid. Pras was of course, the weak link, but managed to luck out and get on "Ghetto Superstar" with Mya and ODB, so he had his hit. Wyclef is a producer of course, so he could keep at work. But it was Lauryn Hill with the solo album that did it. Once that came out, everyone was all over her in the media.

And once that happened, she began to get a big ego, thinking she was the talent and Wyclef was just using her... Kind of weak, really, because she could only sing OK, and her rapping!? Please... But no, the media kept the hype up, and the songs did well because they had good hooks. Look at Black Eyed Peas, they do the same thing as the Fugees, except they've mainstreamed their sound, whereas the Fugees forced themselves to be "Underground","Against The Man" and all their B.s. In reality, it was because they were afraid of loosing their precious underground credibility.

So, what happened? In a breakdown that rivals Mariah, Lauryn hid herself away for a year, only to emerge again with all her hair cut off for a MTV special. In interviews, she sounded just as paranoid as Wyclef, but less about CIA and Masons and whatever, and more about Wyclef. She enjoyed herself with her husband, one of the non-musical sons of Bob Marley. Then, she emerged for the Fugees reunion album, which of course was garbage. So, yeah.

They'd broken up before Miseducation was released. Lauryn did all the production on Miseducation to prove that she was as talented as Clef.

And you're badmouthing an MC who's comparable to the best. Her voice is technically on point. I question er Guitar, but she rhymes and sings better than most. And the Score is one of the best albums ever made, and fairly successful to boot, they had three hits from that album not to mention the fact that the No Woman, No Cry cover also got some pretty maajor play. Ready or Not, Fugee-La, and Killin' 'Em Softly.

Watch the pick off, you're way off-base.

You don't think they broke up, and she handled production, because Lauryn wanted to isolate herself from Wyclef? And I'm not talking about whether or not you like her voice, the fact is, she doesn't sing correctly (yes, there is a way to sing correctly). And she is NOT an MC. An MC has their own style, lyrics, and the ability to rock a crowd. 1/3 does not count as qualification.
im agreein with caz on this one

No, they didn't. Clef and Lauryn was a big debacle and was responsible in no small part the reason they broke up, however. It was more focused on the fact that Clef got the critical acclaim for the production on the Score. In fact he got more than his fair share of the credit considering, that Diamond D, and Pras, and Lauryn were instrumental in the design and direction of the album. Not to take anything from Clef, Lauryn is, was, and always will be the best MC of the Fugees.

The fact is, she does sing correctly. She's not Yahzarah, by any means, but she's technically better than Mary J. Blige, and most of the other "Divas." She's got good air support and control. Her diction is good, what's the sickness? And don't question my motives, I've been singing chorally for way too long.

She's one of the four best females in the game. Question that.

Who's lyrics has she been stealing, who's style? Lauryn is a legend, like it or not.
