Welcome to Gaia! ::

Alright, I started to play Ragnarok a few months ago, I got used to the movements and text commands, made some friends, and killed some stuff, but I still cannot find any reason to continue playing this game. I can't find anything attractive about anything about this game, except for a few NPCs! and I wonder still why you'd pay for it.

So, why do you play Ragnarok instead of a game with better graphics, skills, and value?

P.S, I'm not trying to bash Ragnarok, I just want to hear why so many people really enjoy some MMOs that I think are extraordinarily bad.

All right, I've come to my conclusion: people play ragnarok because they have lousy computers and/or a lot of online friends.
I used to play RO because I liked the game mechanics and combinations. Likewise, it was easy enough to solo with just about any class [within reason], and even easier when you partied.
WoE was a blast too.
Mostly I continue to play because of my friends and guildmates. The end-game content (WoE/MVPing specifically) is a huge draw for me, too.

People think the game is really simple, but it isn't. I still learn new things about it regularly, and I've been playing off and on for more than four years. I love it when I discover new things. I love the satisfaction of getting a character to 99.
I enjoy the look and feel of the game. Compared to the one other mmorpg I've played(lineage 2), the players are much more laid back. I have to say, though, Lineage 2 is a stunning game visually.
iRO was the first MMORPG I've ever played xD so I'll always have a soft spot for it.
I've played other MMO's that people claim are better, but they all seem to fail at
keeping my attention:3

It's all really about just preference, and I'm not sure why:3 but I just adore Ragnarok Online.
Could be the cute graphics, the people, the familiarity of it, or the fact I tend to get really caught up in the storyline xD.
I play it just for the experience... Ragnarok Online was my first MMO.

I got right there and stopped. This invalidates any arguements you may or may not have against iRO--eye candy does not a good game make. =/

I still play iRO because, more so than just about any other MMORPG I've ever played (R.O.S.E. Online doesn't count, as it is another Gravity title), I can customize my characters' builds directly; I control their skills, their stats, and their equipment to such a degree that it's highly unlikely that any of my chars will be exactly the same as someone else's, nor will I lack for a party to fit into when I so choose. I like the community, as even top-tier players with all their slots filled with glowy trans chars wearing God equips will talk to the lowest Novices and help them along. I like the PVP system, WoE and WoE2, and the variety of dungeons and leveling fields. And most of all, I like the fact that playing iRO actually feels like a game and not a chore.
I keep playing cause of a bunch of my friends still play. That and I can tab between WoW and my alchemist. Haha I'm such a scumbag -=]
It is an awesome game. But I don't pay anymore because I got banned. 8D

If you stopped there, you missed the other reasons I play other games. For me, ragnarok was fun, but the tiny sprite graphics and barely-animated skills didn't get me excited enough.

So yeah, it could be a great game, but if not presented well it just bores me.
You do realize that RO is extremely old and was pretty high-tech when it first came out, right? It's not like Gravity has the money to be like, "k gaiz, we need to completely remake this game so its graphics are as good as the new games."

See RO2 for more details.

And that's the problem with you young'uns what cut your teeth on the PS2. No appreciation for the finer points of sprites and 2.5D graphics. /oldlady

Seriously, if you absolutely must have photorealistic 3D graphics to play a game for more than five minutes, I actually feel sorry for you. You'll end up missing out on a lot of great titles that way.
RO is totally owned by other MMORPGs in terms of gameplay and graphics but RO WoE is totally the best guild war idea to exist ever. Why do players need to be strong? Its because of this excellent feature. smile
The only reason I have to play RO is just WOE.
You know, that's how I felt before.
The first time I started playing, I thought it was cool, but I hated how there felt like there was no point in the playing at all.
I didn't like how there weren't constant quests, and I guess you could say I was spoiled because of other MMOs.

But now that I don't want to pay for a game, I have a crappy computer, I'm actually pretty happy with RO.
I don't know why, but I LOVE it now.
Maybe because I actually know what I'm doing thanks to the helps of friends.
