im new on gaia and in the tabs you get a gaia journal what is it for?

Journal stuff. It's essentially like having a blog. You can put whatever you like in there. Your own personal diary. You can use it to store art, links. Anything really. It's for whatever you want, as long as it doesn't violate the TOS.
