The costs of servers, programs and other needed things for GAIA Online costs a a bundle. Announcement June 30, 2008; Very sorry crying There has been a substantial amount of product event items released by Gaia Online lately, that I have grown weary of keeping track of them as well as doing the quest myself along with the very much appreciated work from Lucretia MacEvil, who helped me all the time to catch these events. Other sources can be used in place of this. Complete Gaian Item List created by Lightning Usagi over in the GGN. All past event items from 2003 to early 2008 will remain. Thank you for your continued support with the Monthly Collectible FAQ. arrow Addition October 16, 2009 Several people can not locate the FAQ associated with purchasing Gaia Cash through Mobile phone. I am providing that here as a quote. Please always check around Gaia Online for questions already answered. The Gaia Online Help Center was created for YOU. So, you don't have to wait around for your question to be answered. You just need to do some research. Quote: How do I buy Gaia Cash through my mobile phone? We recently added a new option that allows users in certain countries to purchase Gaia Cash through their mobile phone! It's administered through a third party company called Zong - read below for a full FAQ. How exactly does this work? In a nutshell, you can order Gaia Cash from our Gaia Cash page. Once the order is placed, you'll receive a PIN number to your mobile phone. Enter that number on the page, and your Gaia Cash will show up within a few minutes. How do I get billed? Your purchase will show up on your mobile phone bill or pre-paid mobile account. You must be the wireless account owner or have authorization from the account owner to make purchases. What is Zong? Is this related to zOMG? Nope - Zong is the name of the third party company that's processing these payments. Which countries can use this? New countries added! At this time members in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, and Chile can purchase Gaia Cash using this method. More countries may be added later. I see that I can buy a pre-set amount of Gaia Cash with this service. Can I enter in a different amount of Gaia Cash somehow if I want to buy more/less than the options shown? Each amount is determined by our third-party provider based on the cell phone networks and laws in each country, and at this time there isn't a way to enter in a different amount. Why are the limits in some countries so low? Some of the amounts won't even cover an EI. Each country has different laws regulating how much money can be transferred in a single mobile transaction, which affects the amount you can buy at one time. However, you can of course make multiple purchases if you'd like in order to acquire a certain amount of Gaia Cash. Are there any fees for processing payments this way? As part of the launch, we are waiving all processing fees associated with buying Gaia Cash this way. However, this is a temporary offer, and any future processing fees will be clearly stated during the purchase process. Do I get charged for the text with the PIN number? Standard SMS rates do apply, so you might, depending on your plan with your mobile carrier. Check with them if you have any questions about your plan. How long is my PIN valid for? The PIN number you receive is valid for 24 hours. After that, you will need to start a new transaction to get your Gaia Cash (you'll only be charged for Gaia Cash you receive). What about foreign exchange rates? Foreign exchange rates are factored in real-time into the amounts of Gaia Cash an international member can purchase (as Gaia Cash is tied to the US Dollar). This is why you may sometimes see a fluctuation in how much Gaia Cash your money will get you. Who do I contact if I don't get my PIN, or if something else goes wrong? You can contact Zong's customer support at 888-502-6491, email support.usa@zong.com or send a message through their website at http://www.zong.com/zong/send. What if I have a pre-paid or pay-as-you-go mobile account? The charge is deducted from the balance on the phone account at the time of the transaction. Is there any delay before I can spend my Gaia Cash? Nope! As soon as it's credited to your account, you can spend it as you like!

Step 2. »» After you've done that, click on the GET EM button. Step 3-A. »» You'll see the GET GAIA STUFF page. If you're making a purchase for yourself ignore the To: field. If you wish to increase the quantity, simply change the 1 to another amount. Then, select ADD USER. Step 3-B. »» You'll be shown the total amount of items you'll recieve and the total amount you'll pay. If that's the amount you wish to purchase, please select CONTINUE TO CHECKOUT. Otherwise, if you wish to change your order please change the quantity and then select update cart. Same principals applies to adding another user. You must select Update Cart. Step 4. »» Gaia's Step 2 is Select Payment Method. That's where you'll decide which method you'll use to pay the Monthly Collectibles you're about to purchase. 	exclaim An indepth explaination of "frozen" letters... Newly introduced the Fall of 2008...courtesy of taligator and made possible in part by YOU! 56. [ Paypal ] Why are items frozen? When you make your first purchase on Gaia Online with either your PayPal account or a credit card, you are placed in a probationary period (of sorts) for 14 days where you are only able to purchase up to $42.50 worth of Gaia Cash or collectibles. Once you enter that 14 day period, your purchased items will also become frozen for 7 days per order. For example, if you make your first PayPal purchase (includes credit card) on October 1st, you're restricted to buying only $42.50 until October 15th. AND If that order was for $20 in Gaia Cash on the 1st then that Gaia Cash and anything bought with that Gaia Cash is frozen to your account for 7 days. It cannot be traded, sold, or gifted out of your account until October 8th. If you made a second purchase for $20 of Gaia Casn on October 7th, then ALL of the Gaia Cash is frozen until October 15th - even the Gaia Cash left from your first purchase. If you then purchased a Gaia Cash card and added that to your balance it too would be frozen until the 15th. We do not differentiate Gaia Cash based on orders. If that were all that you purchased then on October 15th, your items will unfreeze and you will be able to make normal purchases without any freezing and your spending limit per month will be $200. (source) Another explaination... If you make an order on Oct 1 for $2.50 and buy one collectible, it is frozen for 7 days. If you make an order on Oct 2 for $2.50 and buy one collectible, it is frozen for 7 days. These two purchases were made separately and will each have a separate freeze period. If you only purchased collectibles this would be easy .. but Gaia Cash makes it more complicated. If you make an order on Oct 1 for 2500 Gaia Cash, ALL the Gaia Cash is frozen for 7 days. Items purchased with that Gaia Cash are frozen in the same time period as the purchase. In other words, if you purchase the Gaia Cash and then over the next 4 days make 4 separate purchases you aren't subject to 4 separate freezes -- only the one from the original purchase. If you make an order on Oct 2 for another 2500 Gaia Cash, then ALL your Gaia Cash is frozen for 7 more days, including the original order. Gaia Cash makes this messy because every injection of Gaia Cash extends your freeze period. Clear as mud? (source) taligator If you made a second purchase for $20 of Gaia Casn on October 7th, then ALL of the Gaia Cash is frozen until October 15th - even the Gaia Cash left from your first purchase. If you then purchased a Gaia Cash card and added that to your balance it too would be frozen until the 15th. We do not differentiate Gaia Cash based on orders. If that were all that you purchased then on October 15th, your items will unfreeze and you will be able to make normal purchases without any freezing and your spending limit per month will be $200. Sevi Rais So since the user bought $40 worth of Gaia Cash and/or Gaia Cash items, then this user would have to wait for 14 days? Wouldn't that purchase have to be $20.50? Or is $40 sufficient for the freeze to occur for two weeks instead of seven? All-in-all, a user would have to wait 2 weeks for that spending freeze to drop? Anyway, if any of this confuses you (as it does me!) please let me know! Thank you! To clarify, when you use a PayPal or credit card on the site for the first time you are limited to how much you can spend. That limit is $42.50. Expanding on that, if you change your email address on your PayPal account or use a new one for a credit card purchase you are subject to this limit. This process is a nested process which makes it confusing. We have two distinct phases here : 1) the 14 day limited purchasing 2) the freezing of items purchase in that 14 day period It's very cause and effect. In truth, a users items can be frozen for up to 21 days depending on how they purchase them. If they purchase items on the last day of their original 14 day limited buying then they have 7 days after that. Now .. if that needs clarification, let me know. It all seems so easy and logical in my mind but apparently it's not as easy as I think it is. 57. [ Paypal ] What's the point of having letters frozen?? A quick response from taligator: In short, it's protection of innocent people. Many many PayPal accounts have been stolen from Gaia members and non-Gaia members and used to make fraudulent purchases on the site. We wanted to stop this from happening and we put these limits in place to protect our members from the pain of theft. Unfortunately it is the actions of a few who've made things challenging for everyone. (source) 58. [ Paypal ] I'm not a first time buyer. Why are my collectibles frozen? A quick response from taligator: If a person gets frozen items then it means they recently changed their email address. I've not had a single case yet where the person was locked and hadn't changed anything. (source)

(formerly known as Donation Items) Back in April or May of 2003, the users of this small community (then 400-500 users) petitioned or rather made a simple thread in the then, Question & Feedback forum asking the Administrators of Gaia Online that they wished to help ease the cost of maintaining Gaia Online. The users were aware the Admins pay for Gaia Online out of their own pockets. Since everyone pitched in their opinions, Gaia Online finally added a Donation option. Mail-In donation was the only method then. Users then were not aware of receiving Thank You Item. Everyone back then, donated for the pure purpose of 'Helping' Gaia Online out. The Admins secretly created a letter that was dropped in the Donators inventories manually. Then one day, Lanzer said to check your inventories. Being the then, GAIA Times Journalist...I was surprised to see an item in my inventory. This piece of blue letter o,O what is it? Opening it, it was a Halo! WOW @_@ I said... xd Then went on making an article about that made everyone...who "wanted" the item donating like mad. But it was already the end of the month when the letter was revealed. That's how it began...a small community wanting to help...urging the Admins to put that darn Donation Button. Now GAIA Online is still here and growing...all because of these wonderful people we call Donators. Recently in November of 2006, Donations are now known as Purchases to receive Monthly Collectibles. I've made a Cash Purchase to GAIA Online. I mailed it in 2 weeks/a Month ago and still have not recieved my item. Allow Gaia Online two-weeks to process mail-in orders, depending on where you're mailing it from. If it's been longer than two weeks. Go to Contact Us, follow the Monthly Collectibles/Gaia Cash Shop link and carefully read the directions (return address and your name is needed to identify mail-in). GAIA will not grant you the Monthly Collectible, if your Cash donation is lost or stolen. What are Sealed Envelope? A Sealed Envelope contains the Collectible items that have not yet been revealed for the month. If you purchase a collectible item before the middle of the month, you'll receive it in a Sealed Envelope. Why the change from letters releasing on the 25th to the 15th? Well, everyone wanted to acquire the items as soon as possible. So, after a voting was done, many users voted the 15th to be the date when letters are unsealed. What are Monthly Collectibles / Thank You Letters? Members can purchase limited-edition Monthly Collectible items for their avatars. As a way of thanking members who support our site through purchases, these items are given to members in "Thank You Letters." As of November 2006, the Adminstrators of Gaia Online has decided to change the name of Donation Items to Monthly Collectables. Donating to Gaia to Purchasing from Gaia Online. Here is what Lanzer announced on October 30th 2006: Lanzer Posted: Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:08 pm Gaia started as a few admins running a small server in a living room, but member contributions have helped us move to a great office and have a full and talented staff building events and features. Gaia would not be here if not for the support from members like you. Our members mean a lot to us, both financially and emotionally. We’re honored that our members are willing to trade their hard-earned money for the monthly virtual items we come up with, and for helping the growth of the community at the same time. Recently, we’ve heard of more concerns from parents and members over the word “donation”. Since Gaia is not a non-profit organization, “donation” is probably not the most appropriate word to use. To avoid any confusion, and to avoid chances of us running into legal trouble, we’ve decided to stop using the word “donation” to describe the monthly items we offer. What were once called “donation items” will soon be known as “monthly collectables”. Does this mean that we’ve gone all greedy and your money is being funneled to some rich corporate fat-cat now? Definitely not! The change is only in wording to address the confusion. Your money is still going to the exact same place, and being used for the exact same things. Your money helps us pay the artists, designers, programmers and all-around geniuses who work hard to make Gaia the greatest hangout on the web. It helps us expand our technology to make Gaia run faster and more smoothly. It helps us stay in our own offices, where we can yell and scream ideas at each other and gather enough talents to make big projects like the Battle System a possibility. So nothing is changed but the name itself, and we will continue to work hard for the new features to come. Have fun at the Halloween event! We’ve just bought a rack full of servers to make sure that the event will run smoothly, and all of that would not have been possible if not for your contributions. Where can I find my User ID #/number? There are several ways to find that out. But the easiest way would be to hover over your PROFILE button either through a posting you made or hover over your PROFILE. When will the Monthly Collectibles / Sealed Letters open? Due to the recent announcement "Monthly Collectibles: A New Date! The collectibles will be unsealed and released once an announcement has been made in the announcement forums. Where do the ideas for the Monthly Collectibles come from? They come from the creative Staff on Gaia. And by Staff, I mean the Administrators and Artists who create these items. No one outside the Gaia Staff will know what the Monthly Collectibles are until the 15th of the Month. What time does the letters get unsealed? There are no set times of release. Many users speculate Noon PST for the items to be released. But due to certain bugs and delays, anything goes but it is released on the day it is announced. When I make a purchase, am I able to choose the Monthly Collectible(s) I'm getting or is it random? There are two or sometimes even three items to choose from in each letter depending on the Month/Year. One item equals one item pose. What are the items? It's always a surprise until they're released! No one's told in advance what the Monthly Collectibles are going to be! 3nodding Can I possible get an item from a previous months? At this current time, Gaia does not offer the purchase of past collectibles. That is why they are called Monthly Collectibles. The only way you can get previous years is through other users in the Marketplace. When we open the Thank You Letter, Do we have a choice or is it random? / Can I choose what items I get or is it random? Once you've purchased the Monthly Collectible of the current Month. A Sealed Letter or Thank You Letter will appear after [NPC] Rina sends you a PM confirmation. After the Monthly Collectible is revealed via the Announcement Forum, the Sealed Letter becomes a Thank You Letter of the current month and year. Selecting the Thank You Letter allows you to select one of the two items (depending on the amount being release). You can only choose ONE item per envelope. It is not random, so you are able to choose one item out of the two choices. As of December 2006; The special December 2006 Month has an added value. Meaning instead of having to choose from two choices, users are able to choose from three choices. Gaia will at times release only two items. But we never know until Gaia Online announces it. (Money Order/Check Purchases) I just purchased a Monthly Collectible # Hours ago/ # of Days, how come my letter isn't here? Mail-In purchases takes about two weeks to process, that's business days. The PO Box location is not onsite of Gaia Online headquarters but in a seperate facility. Credit Card/Paypal purchases usually takes about 2-7 minutes to process, sometimes longer depending. Just give it time before an item is granted. A note that [NPC] Rina sends you a private message. [Feedback Form/Contact Us] How long does it usually take Gaia Online to process my Billing Inquiry? All Billing Inquiries are responded to within 3-5 (or 7) business days via your e-mail. I made a Purchase to Gaia Online during Christmas. Why am I just recieving my letter in the New Year? Gaia Online is located in California, United States of America in the West Coast during Pacific Standard Time. Keep in mind the time difference when making Monthly Collectible purchases. [ Mail-In ] Why do I need to include a Return Address? If you ever forgot to write your username or did not receive your collectible, this is the only way Gaia Online can verify your order. I've just changed my username! What should I do? Should I send in a Feedback Form? As long as you can contact us with the order number from your mail in order form, we'll be able to process your payment to the proper account. Without this information however, there will be very little we can do. [ E-Check ] I'm making a purchase with an e-check/Echeck, will I get my letter? Gaia Online does not accept e-checks. Can I wire money to GAIA Online and they pick it up at Western Union? Gaia Online doesn't accept wired money. What is a Feedback Form? A Feedback Form/Contact Us is a means to contact Gaia Online's customer service team to resolve issues related to Billing, Account, and General questions. Please only submit a ticket if you can not find your answer in the FAQ/Help page. Where's the Feedback Form? The link to the Feedback Form is located on the 'bottom' of every page on GAIA Online. It's titled 'Contact Us' instead of Feedback Form. [ Site-Wide Knowledge ] What is a RollBack? From Jakobo's own words! Jakobo Rollbacks occur when the administrative staff reset's an aspect of Gaia to how it was on a certain day. Think of it like a time machine. In this case, we will be going back in time to approximately 5:00 AM (pacific time) on May 9, 2005. The following pieces of Gaia will be going back in time: 1. Gold 2. Inventories 3. Game Inventories (fish caught) 4. Housing Suitcase Additionally, in an effort to prevent item duplication, and item loss, we will be canceling all trades and marketplace items on an administrative level. This means that any items you have placed into trades will be returned, any items placed in the marketplace will be returned, and any bids placed on items will be returned. Read more on Rollback... [ Conventions ] I made a purchase in person at an Anime Convention. When will I receive my letters? In person Monthly Collectible purchases are processed once the Anime Convention itself has ended and Gaia Online has returned back to Head Quarters. Please allow two weeks or more for these to process. [ Convention/Gaia Store ] I don’t want to make a purchase of Monthly Collectibles. Is there another way where I can help? Yes, there are other ways to help Gaia Online. Purchasing Gaia merchandise from the Gaia Store or when Gaia Online attends conventions. You can purchase Gaia related products from the Official Gaia Online booths (please see Convention's program guide). Convention schedules are different every year so always check Official Conventions Tour Page. All proceeds go towards the development and maintenance of Gaia Online’s fast growing site. [ Convention ] What's the difference between an Official Gaia Online panel and an Unofficial Gaia Online panel? An Official Gaia Panel means the staff/developers/founders of Gaia Online will be attending the Panel which they host at the Convention. An Unofficial Gaia Online panel is a user event. Thus, Unofficial means it's a user run event and any proceeds or purchases will not go towards the development of Gaia Online. Please be cautious of this. Why is the Halo so expensive? Because the Angelic Halo is the first "donation" item to be released. My phone number has been black listed/Blacklisted, help? You will need to contact Gaia Online Customer Service with this request. Please provide your area code and phone number as well as any other helpful details. (Mobile Purchase) I have a Pre-Paid/Prepaid mobile phone or card. Can I purchase monthly collectibles using that method? No, your mobile phone has to have a Billing Address for you to make a purchase via mobile method. If I made a purchase and recieve a May 2005 letter and save it for October 2006, do I get an October 2006 letter?? No, whether you save the letter for next year...the unsealed letter of the month you donated for is the month that letter is. In other words, you donated for May 2005, you open if in October 2006, that letter is still a May 2005 letter. (Mobile Purchase) How come it cost more to purchase by Mobile? Unfortunately, Mobile Phone providers don't allow us to set our own prices for content, so we had to fit our pricing scheme within their wacky guidelines. To offset the weird pricing, we'll include a limited-edition premium wallpaper with each mobile Collectible purchase.. [Mail-In Purchases/International] Can I write a Check instead of mailing in Cash Currency or Purchasing a Money Order? Remember to pay the appropriate rate after currency convergence to United States Dollar. [Mail-In Purchases/International] Why can't I put coins? The reason why you shouldn't mail coins is because the postal service uses a machine to postmark the mail. The machine will be run through wheels. If multiple coins were to run through the machine; 1. The machine might or will "tear" your envelope and cause the coins to be lost. Gaia Online or the Post office will not be responsible for lost or stolen coins purchases. That is why we ask Gaia users to not mail in coins. This is the first time I'm making a purchase to Gaia via Paypal and I've encountered this message: "This payment cannot be completed because your credit card has been denied by your credit card issuer. For details...." What do I do? (screenie) This usually means two things: 1. You recently canceled your credit card and the CC you're using is inactive. 2. Your CC company sees a purchase that's not normal for you. Meaning this is the first time you're making an Online purchase. And the CC denied that purchase because they think your card is being used by someone other than yourself. The steps to remedy is, is to call your Credit Card provider and ask them whats up. OR inform them that you're making an online purchase and has been denied and wondering why. [ Year ] Is there a way where I can pay for the Monthly Collectibles to be granted every Month automatically, for the entire year? No. Gaia Online does not offer a subscription service. Is there a limit to how much I can purchase? / My transactions is locked. / How many times can I purchase a Monthly Collectible from GAIA Online? Yes there is a limit. $200.00 is the limit for Monthly Collectible purchases...if too much is made trades and transactions will be locked. Reason for that is, well let's just say some people abuse the system and include false information to gain items. If you have had your trades and transactions locked, you can contact the admins about it via the feedback form. Make sure to choose "Billing Inquiry" from the subject line drop down menu so that your form gets sent to the right place. Explain your situation, and mention any recent purchases you've made before the problem occurred. Arwen Note Even if you didn't reach the $200 limit. People who purchased a lot of Monthly Collectibles within a month will see this message. This is to prevent false transactions. Will there be more value in the future letters after December 2006? For the Month & Year of December 2006. That Month's Collectible was packed with Value. This will only be for that Month and Year, unless stated by Gaia Online. We know it's not always easy to get Gaia Cash when you don't live inside a fine American-based retail store, so we've come up with easy option for our international members. Through a magical system called Zong (no relation to zOMG!), Gaians in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Sweden can purchase Gaia Cash using this newfangled cellular phone technology. Payment requires a working cell phone. You get your Gaia Cash right away, and the charge shows up on your next cell phone bill. Oh, and U.S. members: this system works here, too! Get Some Gaia Cash To celebrate, we're also waiving all processing fees for a limited time. For more scrumptious nuggets of info, check out the FAQ.
