its pretty lame. there are at least 2 diff off site locations that r trying this. i seen them in the admin (id=2) of gaia comment page. and some other ppls pages too. so when u go to the profile u get the pop up. i pity anyone who enters their info but at the same time i am upset at gaia online staff for not blocking the pop up. it is a simple img src in bbcode thats making someone request that img without their even knowing it. the folder which the img is hosted from is password protected. so that password pop up comes up. it is easy to do. and it can be done from any site that allows access authentication.

simple solution is to block allllll images from any off sites except for photobucket. anything else unless it is verified that it does not allow this kind of authentication should be disallowed.

also a abuse report could be made to the site network admin of the site thats giving that free hosting .

They did that and the members pitched a fit. You can do your part by reporting them as you see them.

Like you, I fell for it the first time. End result was that my main account is now blocked after being used for a phishing scheme.

Second time, it happened on my mule account. Changed the password several times that day..and reported it to the Gaia admin.

I suggest that the pop up you are showing be reported as well...My guess is that I was either redirected without realizing it or someone actually hacked into my web brower (using firefox 2) to show that pop up...

What makes this so bad is that the admin were talking about using a capcha system right before this happened....

It's a script; people where putting it in their sigs, on their profiles, etc if I remember right, and it would generate this popup. You probably weren't redirected, and almost definately your browser wasn't hacked, if it makes you feel any better.

And yeah, what was up with the announcement about the anti-bot thing? I can't find it again, but it sounded so similar to these scripts.

The CAPTCHA system doesn't prevent this. It just cuts down on spam from bots.

Irradiated: That is incorrect. People are not doing it purposefully. Someone has the script and is posting it in their profile as a comment. That is where it is coming from.
