"Bento the Banned"
"Anlina"
I'm not sure what you mean by "rejected from the apps with no message". Everyone who was able to fill out an app and submitted it should have received a response at this time (if you haven't then one should be forthcoming, though at this stage, only generic declines were sent out.)

If you are on your 16th account, I suggest you take a strong look at your own behaviour and attitude on the site. While a single ban could possibly be attributed to moderator error, the checks and balances we have in place in our system to ensure everyone is treated fairly would never allow for 15 improperly placed bans.

I ment that I was banned, twice, once for 14 days for reporting my ex spamming screenshots of my posts on the forums (they said I was harassing her even though she was posting my posts all over)and a second not 30 seconds after the first ban was up, a permaban that nobody has been able to explain, and when I protested it, I was told to "deal with it".

And only about 5 of those accounts have been banned, all the others were ababndoned due to my ex's slander (most of which is still up today). But, everyone just looks at me, and see a bi guy with 10+ accounts behind him, and think I'm a bad guy, like you hinted at.

People don't look at the umpteen hundred phishers that I have taken out before the moderators were able to get to them, they have not seen the lists I have taken from the phishers of the stolen accounts and given to the mods, aiding in the recovery and prevention of misuse, they have not seen me help remove the hundreds of huge3.jpg floods that slowed the forums to a standstill following the longcat items, nor the removal of abusive pictures and banners leading to phishing sites keeping unknown ammounts safe, all without the training or tools of a moderator.

People see none of those good deeds, they just see a number and assume I'm bad. All I want is to help people, and have my fair shot, and have people look at me for me instead of for my past.

With all due respect, I find myself agreeing with Anlina. If you were banned that many times, there is a reason for it. I don't know you. I won't pretend that I do. However, that many bans typically indicates to me that there is something about a user's beliefs in what is right and what is wrong that is different than the policies that mods tend to run by. You may be mistaken about what the reason is, but that many bans do not occur due to a simple mistake. As well, your signature rather hints at quite a bit of anger directed directly at the site itself for your bans.

I understand that you did a lot of good things, and that you are proud of it. And good for you. ^^ It sounds like you've already learned that it is entirely possible to be helpful on the site without any powers whatsoever. However, I would continue to stress that just because you're helpful does not mean that you should be or would want to be a mod.

Mods do get hate threads, it is pretty much a rite of passage, but how we react to situations, and how we conduct ourselves as volunteers and enforcers of the rules on the site is important. Users have to follow the rules, mods should set an example for how to behave. Which means that some snappish or tart rejoinders that we might manage as a regular user on the site become off-limits to us once we take on that new role. At least in the public domain.

Being a mod means learning to bite your tongue and to put things diplomatically, even if you're not feeling diplomatic. It isn't always fun. It can be frustrating. It's not something that is right for everyone. It's not a mark of superiority or a gift of powers to lord about. It is a responsibility.

You may have heard that before. I think it's pretty well known, but I did want to try and press home my point. Take it as you will.

With all due respect, please read the full post next time. Only about five were banned, the rest were abandoned.

When I have been slandered and harassed by an ex enough that I had to abandon so many accounts, and the reports did nothing even to this day, and the head lady telling me to "deal with it" when my posts were being screencapped and my usernames and real info thrown all over, it seems slightly unfair that the staff would turn a blind eye at slander, harassment, and attempted hacking, but instead throw the guy pointing it out to the wolves. I'm not angry with the site, I'm angry with the bad decisions. That is what I wish to change.

It's a volunteer position, and I'm volunteering. I put in my application, I have helped out, but still I get treated like I should be doing hard time. What am I doing that makes people not like me?

I have learned how to hold my tongue, but my habitual humor might be taken wrong....>.>

It is also a status that lets people know you're not some evil little gremlin running around, someone that gets banned like nuts. It's a mark of respect, of honor and of responsibility. And I belive it is the only thing that would get people to treat me less as "that dude who has lot of avis" and more as " Bento, fun loving spaz/computer nerd"

Treat me like me, not a number.the name is Bento, not 14052560.

This is actually taking this thread offtopic from the original intention and shouldn't be continued here confused

And Bento seriously, it's starting to feel like you care a little too much about being a mod. Focus on getting your life straightened out on Gaia for now as it seems like you have a lot going on with your accounts and your ex and working with the staff. Not to mention if you're having a hard time with them now just solving one of your own issues, how are you going to work along side them later to help solve other users' issues? This whole back and forth with your situation isn't seeming to help anything, except for this thread to go on for more posts about a topic it shouldn't be confused sorry sad

Also to speak from some experience that I believe I can share... I went through a majority of the training, and was temporarily a moderator. I actually feel like I myself am doing more as a normal user reporting things now, than I can as a staff member. Part of this is because of a mix of short time I have and that I handle things worse when given more responsibility (in my opinion), but still, you may find that being held down by the rules of being staff (though they aren't too bad), aren't your way of getting things done. At the moment it certainly is coming off that way confused You may find yourself happier to just let this go and to keep working behind the scenes. Caring so much about all this because it has caused your decline in application and wanting to make the site better because this happened to you, might be the wrong motivation. You can reply to me about this in PM if you feel a need to respond to my two cents here. This topic really needs to get back on track and I know this post didn't really do a good job showing that.

Bento, if you want to continue this via pm's, I've no issues with that, but discussing this publically is rather off the topic of mod apps, in terms of what's important for other users to know at any rate.

In regards to mods earning respect ... that really depends on the crowd. I've seen enough hate threads directed at specific moderators calling them abusive, and been bombarded enough by users who didn't like my decisions, or groups of users to be absolutely certain that a pretty name is not an automatic key to respect. Some people truly are impossible to please or to reason with.

*snugs Geminai *

I know of people who were considered for or had positions as helpers or mods who turned out to be much the same way. There are things that only a mod can do, given, but there's also things which a mod is expected to do, be, or know which can get annoying. As well, things we can't do. Sometimes high visibility is a curse. It affects friendships too. You can't explain everything to friends anymore, and you may find casual friends that come running to you any time that they find themselves in a pinch. It may not be a big deal for some, but it can feel like one at others.

For me ... I enjoy it,but I couldn't picture being a regular user again. For better or worse, this role is a part of my net personna, and I have a hard time separating myself from it. Modding does involve a certain disconnect from the forums. Some people enjoy it, some really don't.

Hai~
Any idea when the applications will be open again?
I've been trying to get a chance to fill one out for a year now, but I never seem to know when they're open!

Just keep an eye on the announcements wink We are hoping to see the applications open before the end of the summer, but if they don't, I would definitely suspect to see them open before the year is over.

But, most of the time, if someone is toting ways to make money in gaia, and gets themselves banned, their method may be against the ToS
