Official Gaiabar and FireFox 3.5.5 - Where did it Go?!

I remember some time ago, I had a wonderful conglomerations of Gaiabars. I am, however, missing one very useful one, and I can't seem to find it for the life of me! The Official Gaiabar from Gaia itself, which seemed to be little more than a side-note in one of the news posts, but also a link to it was always available in the page that gave you tips on how to raise a little gold ( going to sponsored sites, signing up for E-mail notifications, etc. ).

The MOST USEFUL feature to me was the real-time PM notification, in my opinion, and I have been lost without it!! I don't actively keep track of my PM's, but that little notification in my FireFox toolbar that I kept conveniently between my tabs and navigation bar was a flippin' life-saver! Quite convenient, too!!

Honestly, I don't think I often used any other feature of the toolbar. I would sign in every time I opened FireFox, it would update my gold from 0 to whatever I happened to have, and I'd reliably be notified if I had a PM.

Does anyone know what happened to this feature? Does it still exist? If so, where? If not, do you have any evidence as to why it was dropped?

I am curious to know why this was not widely advertised, as I found the real-time account interaction that could take place regardless of what website I was on INCREDIBLY useful ( perhaps not as useful as post formatting, but it ranked up there ). Did the Gaia team give up on it? Were there issues surrounding it? Is it still alive and well, and I've just been blind as a bat trying to find it?

FireFox add-ons? Gaia add-ons? I don't recall seeing it on FireFox, and I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of where to start browsing Gaia.

I haven't had the greatest luck navigating Gaia for about the past year. Or, well... whenever they set up the base for the current Gaia layout and look. I've been a member since 2004, and I'm still fairly stuck with trying to navigate it as it was back then.

Are you sure that's the issue? I seem to remember using it recently, but coming up with the issue that Gaia no longer had a page dedicated to signing into the toolbar. I've since had to reinstall FireFox and lost the bar, so I can't verify this for certain.

This is real -- we've decided to discontinue the Gaia Toolbar. Basically, it took too much effort to try and keep it up to date with all the browsers and whatnot, so we decided it would be better to spend our limited resources on stuff that more people use. There will more information and an official announcement at some point.

Pann- Does that mean you'll only stop updating and making it availible for download?
I mean, if its already installed on a compatable browser will it still continue to work?
I've downloaded things that were just sort of...forgotten by the maker before.

Eventually it will stop working entirely. If there's functionality in the toolbar that you found completely amazing, you should mention it in Site Feedback so we can see if we should look at other solutions for that.

Ah, that's too darn bad. Thank you for presenting this information so I can stop scratching my head! Now I shall just mourn the loss of my ability to be a lazy member. X3
