Welcome to Gaia! ::

Yesterday, my account was hacked. Another account, not this one. This is my mule. But some son of a b*tch hacked my account, changed my email AND my password. Weird thing is, I didn't GIVE anyone my password. Anyone at all. Second, he/she is still using my account. I don't want him/her talking to my friends. Is there anyway I can stop this person?

File a hacking report. Fill out every single field in the report or it will not send.

And then keep the confirmation/reference number you get at the end for your own records (and in case you need to check up on the report).

And then you just wait and let the staff do what they do.

They will do their best to restore your account, there's no guarantee, but they will do their level best.

And here's some advice for the future:

This thread is really helpful to avoid staff impersonation.

-The basic rule is not to give anyone your password. Nobody, not a single soul, needs your password for any reason.

-You only ever need to put your password in when logging in (and only on the proper page, www.gaiaonline.com, always check the URL is accurate), doing trades, and to sell or buy from the marketplace. Again, always check you're on the correct URL before you go putting your password anywhere.

-Don't write your password down anywhere, not only could someone easily find a piece of paper, but it's just generally a bad practice to get in to, you should never write your password for any site or anything down anywhere, you never know when you might lose it, or someone could just find it.

-Don't make an easy password. For example "hello" is a terrible password (and don't use personal details like your name or something), however "h3lI0" is far better, still not perfect, but much better than before. Make your password reasonably complex, and something that people aren't going to be able to guess.

-Also, make sure you don't put your password into any pop-ups. Gaia doesn't have "botting" pop ups, we have captcha things for that, as a matter of fact, Gaia doesn't have any pop ups that would ask for your password.

-Make sure you don't download anything suspicious. Ensure you scan your computer regularly for keyloggers (they're quite uncommon, but just keep an eye out).

-Change your password fairly frequently.

The best you can do is to file a Hacking report.
Read the instructions, and be sure to save the reference number you get afterwards.
It might take a couple of weeks to get handled,
as for your friends, you can try and pm them about it, but don't make strong accusations without proof,
or you might be suspected of trying to get someone else in trouble.

There are different ways a person could obtain someone's password.
Are you sure you did not give it to anyone, even a fake moderator,
and you did not type or post it anywhere where anyone could see it,
nor anywhere outside of Gaia, including a fake page?
Did you click any strange links people sent to you?
