Promotions Forum Rules and Guidelines

This forum gives the creative members of Gaia a place to promote their personal galleries and sites.

As a member, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the forum's rules before posting. Posting in this forum implies that you read and understand the rules and guidelines and that you accept responsibility for the appropriateness of your thread or post.

General Posting Guidelines


Please be sure to follow the Terms of Service and Rules and Guidelines here, as in all forums.

Some common violations to avoid:

• Spamming: Posts that are gibberish, off-topic, contain advertisements or begging, or have low or no content are considered spam. Please ensure that your posts are on topic and contain an appropriate amount of discussable content.
  
  
• Flaming and Trolling: Posts directed at another member which are hateful, abusive, or intentionally inflammatory are considered flaming. Making intentionally inflammatory or provocative posts to incite responses from other members is considered trolling.
  
  
• Plagiarism: Claiming another persons work as your own, or posting another persons work without giving proper credit are all forms of plagiarism. Plagiarism should be reported with the name of the original author and a link to the original work.
  
  
• Art theft: Claiming another persons work as your own or posting artwork that has been copied or traced from other people's artwork, or images created using other people's artwork without permission and credit is considered art theft. Art theft should be reported with a link to the original work.

Rules and Guidelines for Posting in Promotions

Threads Should Have...

• A link.
  
• A brief explaination/description of what it is you're linking to.
  
• What you want to get out of your advertisement (feedback, comments, etc.).

Threads containing nothing but a link are considered spam, and will be removed from the forum.


What Can I Promote Here?

• Personal galleries of your artwork/writing/music/etc. (such as deviantArt, etc.)
  
• Personal websites that you have created or own
  
• Resources, communities, or forums that you own
  
• Contests that you are running, both on- and off-site
  
• Other threads on Gaia you have made (such as your art shop, etc.).
  
• Your blog/journal/webcomic/etc.

What CAN'T I Promote Here?

• Links to things that do not belong to you, such as:
  
  • Other artists' personal sites or galleries
    
  • Sites collecting "found" art off the internet
    
  • Sites containing stolen artwork
    
  • Resources, communities, or forums that you do not own
    
  • Contests that don't belong to you
    
  • Music or multimedia sites containing material you did not create
  
  This also includes advertising things for your friends/family.
  
  
• Links to commercial or for-profit sites.
  
  
• Advertisements for IRL cash commissions. Creating a thread advertising solely for IRL cash commissions, or listing IRL cash commission prices on Gaia, is not allowed.
  
  
• Links to referral sites, or sites which get you some form of points or reward for having people click your link.
  
  
• Links to any sexually explicit/pornographic material.
  
  
• Links to illegal downloads, including music, software, or other pirated materials.

Commonly Misplaced Threads

• If you would like to make a shop to sell your artwork, or would like to buy/commission art, please use the Art Shops & Requests forum.
  
  
• If you would like to advertise your guild, please use the Guilds Charter and Barter forum.
  
  
• If you would like to advertise your RP thread(s), please use the Barton OOC forum.
  
  
• Advertising your Avatar/Art/Writing/Homes Arena entry is not allowed in the Promotions forum. Please use the Chatterbox forum to advertise for votes, or the proper Arena Discussion forum for getting feedback/critique on your entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Is bumping allowed?
  Limited bumping is allowed in this forum, but please don't bump if your thread is still on the first page. Bumping excessively can result in your posts or your thread being removed and possibly a warning for spam. Please don't bump in other people's threads -- if you don't have something relevant to add, please don't post at all.
  
  
• I'm not sure about something!
  If you're not sure whether it's okay to advertise something, or you're not sure if the Promotions subforum is the right forum, you can PM one of this forum's moderators to ask. If you're not sure if a thread should be in the forum, or if you find a thread that's violating the forum rules or the Gaia ToS, please report it.

How to Report

Abuse of the report system will result in a warning or ban of your account.

Report a Post

Use the button when an individual post in a topic contains inappropriate content.

Reasons to Report a Post:


• The content of the post violates the Terms of Service or forum rules.
  
  
• The content of the post is off-topic.
  
  
• The member who made the post has a signature which violates the rules.

Report a Topic

Use the Report this Topic button at the bottom of the page when a topic is not appropriate for the forum.

Reasons to Report a Topic:


• The topic violates the Terms of Service or forum rules.
  
  
• The topic is in the wrong forum and should be moved to a more appropriate forum.

Report Hacking, Scamming or Abuse & Harassment?

The Hacking, Scamming and Abuse or Harassment report forms can be found at the bottom of the forum index. When submitting a report, ensure that you fill out all fields and include as much relevant information as possible.

Report A Hacking
Use this form to report a Hacking. Hacking, on Gaia Online, refers to the unauthorized access of an account by someone other than the account owner. In most typical hacking cases, an unauthorized person enters an account which does not belong to him or her and takes items or gold from the account, often changing the account information so that the original owner can no longer access his or her account.

Report A Scamming
Use this form to report a Scamming. Scamming is when another member of Gaia takes your gold or items, or tries to take your gold or items, by making false promises of giving you rare items, get-rich-quick schemes, or by any other deceptive means. Scamming generally involves a situation in which two members of Gaia make an arrangement to trade gold, items, or a Gaia approved service (e.g. avatar art commission) with each other and then one of the parties involved in the arrangement fails to live up to his or her promise of an exchange.

Report Abuse or Harassment
Use this form to report ongoing Abuse or Harassment. If you are reporting harassment or abuse that is occurring directly in a thread, please use the "Report This Post" button instead.
