About the Cause:
Every year users come together to support The Gaia Annual Ball. This will be the 7th Annual Ball! So as you can see, this is something that has been going on for about as long as Gaia has been around! And without the support of users like you and myself, this tradition would not be one that could be continued! A large portion of the proceeds from this auction goes to this cause, as this is a user run event. The users who participated in the very first Annual ball received red rose corsages-- and although I do not have the funds to provide those participating in this one of those, (Check the MP and you can see why!) I will be seeing that those who have the winning bid receive a Wristlet Corsage (colors to be determined by what the user is wearing) given to them by their date in tribute to the occasion.

If you'd like to see what you can do to support the ball, or would like to directly donate to the ball, please drop by the The Gaia Annual Ball Guild. There's all kinds of ways to help, this event is just one!


What can you expect from your date experience?
So you won (Or are trying to win a date?) Your date will primarily consist of friendly chat, dancing, and participating in games that Gaia offers us in this event. An average date is about an hour or two in length. If you and your date really hit it off and want to hang out longer that's great! You will receive a corsage from your date, as well as a Polaroid memento of you and your date together. Dates MUST adhere to the rules of Gaia. Which means PG-13! This is not a free pass to wave any of Gaia's rules and never ever an excuse to place your date into an uncomfortable situation.

Rules that MUST Be Followed:
★ Gaia's ToS & Rules Must be Followed at all times! Both on the date and in the thread!
★ Keep a fun & friendly atmosphere! Insults and rude behavior to myself or those involved in this thread will not be tolerated! I will report your offense to Gaia Moderators if necessary.
★ Do not bid what you do not have and be prepared to send trade when/if you win!
★ *NEW* If you win an auction you have 24hrs from it's close to *claim* your date, or else you will be disqualified and/or reported for not following through. (Added for clarification.)
★ Do not volunteer to be auctioned if you have no plans to commit to the date!
★ Likewise, do not bid if you will not be able to attend the date. (If you wish to directly donate to the Gaia Annual ball feel free to donate directly to them.)
★ Scheduling of the date will be decided by those involved in the date, but both parties must contact me so that I am aware of the arrangement. Check in at the start and end of the date here! (So that you can receive your mementos and have your trade handled properly.)
★ Once a bid is made, it is final. Bid retractions or bid alterations are not acceptable. Additionally, please use the code provided and remove your post style when bidding for easier updating.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

◄Can I be auctioned?► It's doubtful at this time that you will be added, but we do occasionally have new additions to the auction block. We do realize that some of the newer auctions will accept everyone and anyone who wants to be added. We are a bit more exclusive and our bid histories prove that quality over shines quantity. If we think that you have what it takes to show our bidders a wonderful time we will contact you personally.

◄How do you select those who are auctioned?► I look for people to state they want to be auctioned. There's no fancy form involved in being considered for auction. (That comes once you have been selected!) I also look to see if they hang around the thread and chat to get a gauge of their personality and their genuine interest in the cause. It's one thing to want to be auctioned, it's another to have the fineness to earn bids. I try to keep a well rounded group on the auction block, so keep in mind if you are not chosen or not chosen right away it might be best to keep hanging around as you might still be in consideration.

◄Can I be in multiple date auctions?► No. Upon creating our auction this was never an issue as we were the only auction for Promageddon. Upon our growth of popularity there has been a rise in other date auctions. We feel it takes away the significance of the auction if our dates are available for bid else where. If you can be bought for less, surely you will be. We also do not want our dates spread too thin in their commitments for prom. Should you find one of our dates posted else where feel free to PM me the link where they are up for auction so that I can inform them of our newly enforced policy.

◄How can I help the fundraiser?► Offering to be auctioned is a good start, but it doesn't stop there! Bidding on those being auctioned helps a LOT, as well as purchasing the mementos when they're added. We can't reach our goal without your support! We realize not everyone can commit to the dates and/or afford them, so donating to the 7th Annual Ball guild directly, and/or helping out here in the thread is very much appreciated.

◄What is your fund raising goal?► It is my hopes to raise at least 500k for The Annual Ball from this event. Naturally if we make more I will be quite excited, but as long as we have a good time during the auction; no matter how much is raised will make this event a success!

◄How much of my bid goes to The 7th Annual Ball?► 40% of the proceeds from EVERY date goes towards our Goal Amount for the 7th Annual Ball, 30% goes to the person being auctioned as a thanks for their participation, and the last 30% goes to me to help cover the cost of running the auction. i.e. the gifts to the winning bidder, contests that may go on here, etc. Some of the people being auctioned have already requested that their portion go to the fundraiser, so in some cases more than 40% will be going to the ball. If you're looking for your entire donation to go to the ball you can donate directly to them like I will be doing once this event comes to a close. You're welcome to directly donate to the 500k goal we have here if you wish. But, if you are sending a donation to me it is very important that you title your trade properly. i.e. wanting a donation to go to the ball funds or wanting your donation to go to this thread's contest funds. In short, I want your gold/items to be used in the way you intended it to. Contributions small and large are greatly appreciated.

◄What sets your auction apart from others?► This is one of, if not the first Date Auction to pop up in the Promagdeddon forum. We had such a quick burst of interest for our auction that we had to move to this thread to accommodate easier editing. Since starting, we have have come to see many similar charity auctions start up. Whether first or last we support one of the largest user-run events on Gaia. An event run by users like you for users like you. A tradition that has lasted for as long as Gaia has been a community. Not to mention, we have a great selection of dates for your bidding pleasure!

◄Can I bid on more than one person?► You may, as long as you have the funds and the time to commit to each date. Also, you may bid on someone even if you are up for auction-- assuming you have the time and the funds to commit to each date. Understand when filling up your dance card that people have different schedules-- so it might be wise to bid on someone who is generally on during the times you are.

◄Can a female bid on another female?► I have no objections to females bidding on females or males bidding on males. This is a great chance to make new friends. However, when sexual preferences become a concern it ultimately falls to the comfort level of the person being bidded on. I will never require a female to go on a date with another female if she does not feel comfortable doing so. Nor will I force a male up for auction to go on a date with a female if he does not feel comfortable doing so. IF ever this becomes an issue I expect that the person who received a bid that was out of their comfort level to let me know privately. I will never tolerate bigotry on any level, nor will I purposefully place those being auctioned into an uncomfortable spot. Tolerance is a two way street and I only ask people to show respect.

I've done charity people auctions in the past and they turned out great, but this will be my first time doing so on Gaia.

Manic Monday - Perfect Date Submissions

I chose the things I did because, for some reason, I like my men a bit tanner and I like them to have a darker theme, but still be dressed up when the occasion calls for it. ^^
I put the 3 katanas in because...well, I like them, and it symbolizes, to me, that that guy would be able to protect me...God only knows I need it... sweatdrop
The scarf and hat symbolize his mysteriousness...and he has a GO Player because they HAVE to like music!! I mean, how can they NOT?? ^o^
The butterfly is there to symbolize his understanding of the 'feminine being'. Let's face it, guys. With out that, you're screwed. 3nodding
The demonic pendant symbolizes his 'radiating heart' that defines him as being chivalrous and a gentleman with a kind and forgiving heart...finally, the Vampire Hunter-thing under him symbolizes his dark upbringing...Gotta have a guy with a dark past...they're more fun to heal....

Most of the items I chose symbolizes a certain traight I would love to see in a man. Put together, I think these traits can make up the perfect date, for me anyways. Also, it fits in with the masquerade theme of prom.
The mask: Represents mystery. Sure he may tell you things about himself, but if he keeps some secrets, it makes it all the more fun to try and figure out what it is he is hiding.
Rose: Love. The red rose is often given to a woman when a man tries to express love for her, and I want a man that shows me he loves me. Though it can be given to a woman for multiple reasons, mine would be based on love.
Gimpi and leggings: There is no particular reason why I chose these, they just looks good to me.
Gothic Veil: A simple thing added to show that we are a couple. Like when dates go to prom, they usually match in color, this will be much like that, only with a specific item.
Bone Dragon Helm: He is ishy and devensive. He want's to protect his head from other people's influence. He just wants to be himself.
Ancient Katana: If something happens that goes against what he believes in or what he things is right, he will fight.
The Hair and Eyes: Two of the first things I notice about men. I love darker haired men, emi-long length in hair. More for me to play with. The eyes can be of any color, though if they are green, it is a bonus.
Overall, I think the perfect date consists of someone who is kind and gentle. He is himself and he will love me for who I am. Someone who can have fun, but still restrain himself.

Sweet Lips: The lips are the first thing I notice about a woman.
Wings: My dreamgirl is no angel, but she knows when to act like one, but the wings are duel purpose. Because I have wings too, and we will both fly freely and chase our dreams together.
Gold and white theme: Gold makes the world turn, it is the only constant. My dreamgirl is worth more than any amount of gold. And white is symbolic of purity, and while its been said that she is no angel, she always has good intentions.

My perfect date is a dashing gentleman who kindly holds the door open for me in an old fashioned way that makes me blush. He is strong and manly but isn't afraid to make use of things like hair gel and blond tints in his hair. I get lost in the perfect deep sea green that is his eyes. Every time I look at him, he takes my breath away when he smiles at me like I am the only woman that exists. He is playful and energetic, a wee bit overprotective but not in a jealous sense. He carries his swords at the ready to protect me from any sign of danger. He wears a thick cape of soft white fur (faux of course!) to wrap me in when I am lying in his arms under the stars. He is angelic, a protector watching over me but he can also be a bit devilish at times. 4laugh He has an air of mystery about him but he tells me his deepest secrets, whispering them into my ear late at night when we are alone in front of the fire.
