Welcome to Gaia! ::

((Ah, perhaps I am. We must wait and see how the story unfolds, ne?))

Elie let out a small sigh of displeasure as the dance came to an end. Unskilled in the art of bowing and curtsying, she did the next best thing, raising her hand to her forhead in salute. "Likewise, Alice. But now I hope to have the honour of treating you to a drink. Would you like some punch, perhaps?" She glanced at the ground momentarily, hoping for an acceptance of her offer.
((Ooooh, suspense! Oh, whatever shall happen next, I wonder?! surprised ))

"Certainly. Though I must warn you, proms do indeed have the unsavory reputation of having their punch spiked with all sorts of hard liquor. Seems we shall find out for ourselves whether or not this rumor is true." Unable to hide a hint of her more characteristic smirk from her previous smile, Alice once again took Elie's arm, leading her towards the long table upon which the infamous bowl of red liquid stood. "So tell me more about yourself, Lieutenant Colonel Elie. What is it exactly that you do that grants you such a respected title?"
((Oh, by the way, I'm putting Alice in my story as one of Elie's friends. Do you mind if she works in the Office of Foreign Affairs?))

Elie shrugged. "A little alcohol never hurt anyone. I'm a fan of a good beer myself." She took two cups and spooned some of the ominous ((Haha.)) punch into them, handing one to Alice and keeping one for herself. She took a sip. "This is good...But we'll have to see what happens, won't we? And regarding my title," she said, taking a sip of her punch again, "I work for the government in the Federal Defense Offices. Office of Terrorism Protection, specifically."
((Sure, go ahead! Hmm...never saw her as anything even close to a government employee, but I like creative spells like this! Can't wait to see how you write her! ^^))

"Hmm...interesting." Alice took a sip of the punch as well, eyes now studying Elie again even more closely than before. "I'm guessing that such a post has gained you many enemies in the past, am I correct?" Nodding slightly to herself, Alice lowered the cup from her lips, "This is...passable, although I suppose I have sampled far too many drinks to be able to be utterly satisfied with any particular specimen. Then again, you never know when you will come across a truly exemplary one..."
"Well, I'm sure there are some who aren't pleased with me, but we've maintained peace with many nations. We really only get problems from local cases, y'know, like plots to overthrow the president--We've had a couple of those in the past. But other than that, it's a fairly smooth line of work. I have the blessing of great colleagues." Elie put her cup down on the punch table. "As for the punch...Well, I've tasted better things, that's for sure. As soon as this is over, I'm hitting the bar."
Suddenly loud laughter filled the room. A woman, perhaps in her twenties, stumbled in, a cup of punch in hand. Silvery hair that cascaded over her shoulders reached mid-back, framing a mischievously innocent face. Wide, luminous eyes of gold were set in that face perfectly, almost inhumanly so. Her dress was a rich red with sparkles of white diamond that matched well with her locket and hair. Taking another gulp of the blood-colored, and now obviously spiked, liquid, she promptly marched over to the other two women in the room and flung her arms around their shoulders.

"Ah, nothin' like dancin' the nigh' away, righ'?" she slurred, the punch sloshing dangerously over Alice's dress.
Alice raised an eyebrow, seemingly turning something over within her mind after listening to what Elie had to say. She hummed nearly inaudibly to herself while taking another sip of the punch, and was about to speak again after lowering her glass when another woman made herself known, nearly spilling her own drink over Alice. Raising her eyebrow yet again, Alice felt the sudden urge to inch away from her, as it was quite obvious she was drunk, but remained where she was. "Right...Miss, do you feel alright?"
The woman laughed boisterously. "Of course!" she proclaimed, taking another drink from her cup around Alice's neck. "I am nothing but fabulous! Absolutely fabulous!"

Suddenly she withdrew her hold on the other two and proceeded to whisper loudly behind her hand. "I don't really know about those drunkards in the other room, though," she rasped inconspicuously. "They seem to be really REALLY out of it, if y'know what I mean." She hiccuped and giggled.
Elie resisted the urge to burst out into uncontrollable laughter. It had been a while since she had seen someone drunk and the expression of surprise and mild digust on the face of Alice next to her was almost too much. "Miss," she said to the silver-haired woman, taking the woman's punch cup from her, "Perhaps a little water would be a good thing."
